No no buddy, I don't think small of anyone! As long as one stays off the ciggies whatever s/he uses to achieve that is GOOD! So, if a clone sets you right - so be it. Just one thing I don't like is Authentic Bashing. One should always be thankful to the original designer/modder, b'coz if it was not for his/her ingenuity - the clone wouldn't've existed.
And hey, you purchased one of the most expensive mods (one of the best mods out there too) - and now you'd like to place atop a $20 clone on it? I'm sure you'd have thought about it and set your priorities right!
To be clear, I'm not bashing the original at all, only its price. I posted somewhere long ago that if the authentic creators out there would price their works more affordably, those who want to play near the top (like myself) would buy them and clones would have far less sales. If my texts reads differently than my intention I apologize.
I absolutely agree with you about topping a $350 mod with a $20 atty, mine actually has an authentic kayfun as its crown... however to speak about clone vs authentic pricing is simple.... Some atomizers appeal to a certain customer, and while perhaps few can afford and or justify a $200+ investment in said atty, its hard not to consider a $20-$50 replica which performs to its equal. Case in point, Kayfuns..... In my experience the kayfun clones I've got perform outstandingly well for a fraction of the price... Not all the kayfun clones out there are created equal, I'll give you that, but many are excellent atomizers. I support the maker (svoemesto), I happen to have a couple genuine kayfuns, but also have a couple clones (
and yes, I bought the clone first, then purchased a couple authentics because I loved the device). The Taifun GT is another one as an example, at $175 the authentic is out of reach for many where the $25 clones perform near equal to it... had the authentic been priced at $100 I think they would have sold them by the boat loads (see Kayfun Lite), many of the TGT authentic owners sold off their authentics and bought the clones because there was little to no difference (see the TGT thread). Would they have gone thru that if the original was more aggressively priced? I doubt it.
And now on to the Erlkonigin (Erlk).... at or
near $100 usd it would have already been on its way to me. But at $200+ I simply can't
justify that expense for a vape that may or may not be marginally better than my kayfuns, and because its 21mm - I'll wait and see what Mark Bugs releases first

. I'm not in the manufacturing industry, but I understand business. Make a few thousand bucks selling a few dozen units at high prices and large profit margins, or make tens of thousands of dollars selling perhaps thousands of units at lower profit margins.....? (selling thousands might be a little over dramatic but you get my point)
In my line of business I see 2 kinds of customers (I don't know for sure if this applies to vaping yet), there is the customer who wants what he wants and gets it. Then theres the customer who wants to spend the
least amount of money possible
no matter what the product or service is period. At least this has been
my experience with customers.... Like you, I am NOT in the second category... now vape customers I'm assuming are a little different, this for many of us is a lot like a hobby.
I personally never smoked a cigarette a day in my life.... I did however smoke cigars regularly,
and continue to do so. I started vaping because my adult kids started vaping to quit smoking cigarettes and I tried it and got hooked, and I now have grandchildren who live with me and I no longer smoke my cigars in my house, though I do still enjoy cigars while out with my buddies drinking

I got hooked on vaping because I found it to be an excellent alternative to smoking cigars in my house and have no fear of second hand vapor around my 2 small grandchildren, plus I enjoy the hobby aspect of it, collecting, building, it's a hobby and an addiction. And I can tell you that I spend
way more on vape gear and supplies than I ever did smoking some of the finest cigars in the world

And in the process have probably developed a nicotine addiction
So to be clear, I agree with you wholeheartedly, without the authentics there would be no clones, support those that brought you, etc.... But if the genuine makers would price product more aggressively more people would buy authentic. The music industry is another excellent example, they feared the .mp3 download and piracy, but when they realized people are willing to pay 0.99 for a track download, iTunes became one of (maybe the?) largest music "stores" ever...
people want to pay for goods and services, they just don't want to get robbed.
