“My lip is busted. After I left the hospital, I found a big cut underneath my, on the bottom of my lip, on the inside and my teeth on the front, behind they’re messed up. I’m missing some of my teeth,”...

Just doesn't sound like a smart person. "It knocked out some teeth and cut my lip" is all that needed to be said. Knocked out teeth is a big deal, who wouldn't mention that first? Was she missing teeth before the accident? Why was the rental car parked in the yard? This reeks of going after a scapegoat for financial recovery.

Someone - Puddlecoat, Siegel, Conley (probably the best source) Sullum at Reason (or all of them) should put out a press release to all available news sources Reuters, FDA and ABCNBCCBSCNNFOXNYTWAPO- a tutorial on hybrid mods -

A press release tutorial about batteries would be useful, too.

Fergus Mason wrote a great piece about batteries, in my opinion. It should be must reading for any journalist before he/she writes an "e-cig explodes" article:

The first story I read said it was a rented car, this instantly set off a bs alarm.

Second she already has a lawyer with intent on suing, right after it happened?

A mechanical mod can short without being a hybrid, the coil could sag and touch the deck or the build could get knocked around.

What I do know is it's not the fault of the mod. It was either the battery or atomizer if true.

I had a build short on me once, it was on a Stingray and soon as I hit the fire switch it stuck because it was a dead short. Tube got hot instantly but I threw it down and it knocked the fire switch loose. I was running a VTC5 and it survived, I still use the battery every day and that was over a year ago.

What I'm getting at it my issue was a dead short and the battery didn't vent, it didn't even damage it. Much less instantly explode.

Yeah, the rented car thing raised my antennae;

then at the end about the mod not being found;

gets ya wondering if something entirely different happened and she just made up the ecig part to coverup.

That's my line of thinking, something else entirely.

I mean I feel bad for the girl if what she says is true and I don't know she isn't telling the truth.

Today NBC in Boston missed a great opportunity to educate. Their message was demonizing instead.
3 part story focused on danger of "e-cigarettes" instead of "How to vape safer"

1st, sad story, guy with a mech blew up in his face, lost an eye.
no helpful advice about battery safety or mechs or hybrids. just OMFG look at his face!

2nd - e-cig went full on rocket in pocket. Said e-cig blew up in his pocket.
We all know he had change and/or keys with an unprotected battery.
No advice just OMG look at what his e-cig is doing! (Not e-cig. Loose battery.)

3rd - e-cig started on fire, made a mess.
Look at that damage! Good thing I woke up from the fire alarm!
Charging while sleeping warning? Hell no. just look what e-cigs will do.

Conclusion - better not vape (smoking might be safer)

Totally focused on demonizing vaping so missed 3 chances to educate.

Double like ∆∆∆

It's interesting how you never get the complete story on these ecig disasters.

It's also interesting how many cell phones self ignite and no one is demonizing them, or suing the manufacturer's.

Reporters are a joke, hard hitting fact's eh... Well where are the facts?

I was surprised. When they first covered the pocket rocket story when it first happened they said it was a loose battery. They said it was his spare battery for his e-cig, which it was, but this time they said his e-cig exploded in his pocket. Same channel, same news team. Their sponsors must have straightened them out on how to present it (Demonize, don't educate! We have drugs um, I mean medicine to sell!).

I can only guess a short in the wiring or bad capacitor on the board. I had a regulated mod set on fire in my vape stand. I hadn't used it in more than an hour when it suddenly went up in flames. Luckily I was able to pull the battery right away on my way to the door with it.
Ack,that is pretty nerving. What kind of regulated mod was is Roxy?

Hmmm.. . Was he charging the device when the accident happened?
Faulty 12v to 5v charger?

They are still being sold if you want to replace it.

I still have one as I had bought two :). Other is more than a year old with no issues. I would like to update it using the old sx350 board, 60W. The body is very nice, and so is the form factor. The sx300 it has is decent, but an sx350 would be nicer.

You're not talking about the mech so the last story.
That second picture shows the gear from that story.
The fire was next to the bed so probably charging while sleeping.
Itaste 30 with the dreadlocks wicking. What mod does that look like? Too rounded for a VTR.

Man's ecig explodes in face, man stated as soon as the button was depressed on the ecigarette he heard a loud explosion as shards of metal tore through his face.

Truth

Man's ecig explodes in face, he was overheard saying "cloudz bruh, I'm super subohm'n dashiat outta dis" just before the accident occurred.
