You over saturated your mods with oil and they were softer woods that can really absorb oil . I don't think you would have had issues like you did if you wouldn't have done that . The whole idea is to seal the wood not drown it lol .
I am a big fan of cocobolo myself I love jatoba as well . I would stay away from softer wood if you decide to go down the wood mod road again . I plan to do a how to maintain a wood mod video before I release this next run of wood mods for those that don't no how to maintain them

I seriously cracked up laughing at this because I TOTALLY did this!! I really thought that's what I was supposed to do!! lol I still love them, they just have to be repaired now.

FYI
The stabilized wood REOs don't require oil or polish but I use Howard's SunShield because I have some and the dyed wood can darken.

So if I am understanding this right.... Stabilized is wood but dyed? What kind of wood ( tree) and How does it not dry out?

The 2nd link in post 265 explains. It doesn't have to be dyed. Stabilizing is a process of infusing the pores and grain structure of wood with one of several differant chemicals (Acrylic) vacuumed. This basically turns the wood into a plastic-like. To me feels more like smooth stone.

All kidding aside the dyed stabilized mods maybe unusual and beautiful to some of us were mother nature's beauty of natural wood is to others. FYI, you don't get the warmth of natural wood REOs with the stabilized ones so there are plus and minuses to either so its a win....win which either you get.
