One last idea: gut an RCA connector (either plug or socket, whichever looks most promising). Should be similar then to the lampholder, but stronger.

I tried that the other night, after reading dedmonwakin's RCA thread. Maybe it was the brand of RCA cable, but it wasn't all that feasible IMO (of course, I've only got some basic hand tools available).

This M10 bayonet connector (or maybe the smaller one you mentioned above) might be a better option than even the RCA jack, assuming the petals can be trimmed and shaped to give a solid friction fit against the atomizer threads. The spring-loaded center post for adjustability is an added bonus.

Sounds good! So put the charger chip board and usb socket into the box too, along with the 510 connector :)

I was considering that... unfortunately, it's a USB plugin, so it's male USB to M401 batt/510 atomizer... :(

I would have SWORN I ordered one of those chargers, but I can't find the email, now...

I don't have access to a dollar store over here in Kosovo, unfortunately. No connector that matches the 401 batt/510 atomizer, either, dangit!!

My day shift guy only had metric, the atomizer seems to be SAE. It's between a 6 and 7mm (I'm guessing 1/4") and about .7mm on the pitch.

Good work, will try to match that to an M or other thread pitch measure (AB or something, forgot!!)

Thread size off the top of my head-

801- M9 x .75
901- M8 x .75
510- M7 x .5
401- M7 x .5

I've verified the 801, the treads it cuts are a perfect fit. I just found the M9 x.75 die at local hardware store yesterday. Now just need to find some 9mm brass stock.

Still looking for a M7 x .5 tap to make my own bat mod for my 510. Found one on Amazon but waiting till next week to order it.

Is brass the ideal material for the connector or is it just easier to work with

I've just had experience working with brass in the past. It pretty easy to machine, more durable than aluminum and you can solder to it. Also it's what they use for most of the connectors in PV's already (gold plated):D.

I don't know if you found your tap yet, but Victor Machinery carries most at a pretty reasonable price. And no I'm not affiliated with them in any way, well other than they take a lot of my money.

victornet.com/subdepartments/Metric-Taps/1310.html

They tend to be decent quality, cheap prices.

Hope this helps.

Brass (360 alloy) is the standard for easy machineability. Meaning that every other alloy used in machining is graded against this one, it is only fair for soldering/ brazing though. Brass 260 which is the alloy you will commonly find at hardware stores, is better for heat treating/ forming, not as good for machining (still pretty good though). Aluminum is also fairly easy to machine (2011, 2024, or 6061) 2000 series better for machining, 6061 for welding/ soldering.
