My 401 USB charger came in today - sealed connector, looks like it should work nicely. Height of the threaded portion is the same as the ring of a 'high brass' 510 atomizer (3/8" high by 1/4" diameter). It has a very small, round 'button' for the wire connections (1/16" high by 1/4" diameter) - could possibly surface mount it with a bit of epoxy on the shoulder, or by building up an epoxy / superglue 'bed' for a buried mount.

And, it also gives me a small battery charger board that could be used for an internal charger like a JS.

I must say that i am very confused with this thread.

The title announces a solution, and as i read through all of it, i could not find anything that tells me what it is. Many ideas and suggestions, but nothing concrete. I have nothing against the thread except the title being deceiving. WOOHOO what?

Anyways...why look for an alternative connector if you can buy them for 3.50?
Unless i am wrong this is what you are REALLY looking for?

For the same reason you buy your RCA stuff someplace other than RS; the relative cost - look at the numbers:

For what it costs to buy ONE charger from Ruyan to gut for a connector, you can buy a DOZEN of the lamp bases from RS - that doesn't even count the difference in shipping costs.

Yes, you can actually buy about 15 lamp bases for the same price, and you can also buy 20 CD cases, or 50 letter envelopes, (pardon the sarcasm), my point is that the lamp bases are not a "decent fit" , they are not sturdy enough and they will not look "clean" on a mod. Just because they are very cheap doesn't mean it will do the same. The DC jack for the 901 or the 1/4 audio jack for the 801 are real finds because they fit perfectly and need little modification to work.
And about the cost, those jacks cost between 3 to 4 bucks, so in the end we are talking about the same price range for the USB charger.
And again, i have nothing against this thread or anything said in it, only the title is plain wrong, in the end, anyone can choose to read or skip a thread, but obviously what "pulls" you to look into it is the title since that is the only reference until you start reading it.
In the end, it's up to each one of us to decide what works better, is easier, cheaper, faster or nicer as part of a mod.

I don't disagree with the point - but we don't *know*, at the moment, if they're a 'good fit' or not. They *may* be (with just a bit of modification in the case of the bayonet socket), but nobody knows yet. As for 'cleanliness', most of the nicostick mods are 'buried' installs, so that's not really an issue.

For the 801/901 mods? I didn't realize that, not having looked at them since I use a 510. Maybe, in that case, it comes down to cheaper shipping and being able to get them immediately, if the price of the jack is the same as the price of the charger?

I disagree - again, for us 510 users, it *IS* a 'Wooohooo' moment BECAUSE nobody had found anything BESIDES gutting a battery or the 401 charger that WOULD work, so this gives us a base to start from with little or no modification.

Price is quite good and the unit could be useful for the charger board, which is obviously small; sometimes sealed units are a devil to open though ;)

But isn't the connector for a battery rather than an atty? Or is the 'M-series' battery connector the same as the 510 atty connector. I guess that must be the case.

See my post at the top of this page. :)

2 small external phillips screws holding the case shut, one small phillips inside holding the board in.

Atomizer screws right in, no problems at all.

That's straightforward then :)

Just need to open it to send recharging power to a battery and the battery to the connector. Then place this and battery in a larger box; add button and LED.

A rechargeable Stick will be great !

Ok then I Woohoo to that!

Use my "system" and you will not need to find or buy any bat connectors except wait till your first battery dies. :p ;)

If the battery is protcted type, and the charging board also has protection, all one needs to do is wire the battery across the the connector :)

Parallel the battery to both the charger and atomizer connector?

Don't know if the charger has protection or not.

On the non-component side: YFC-377 SOMON LLS 09 02 21 SM-USB01

Component side: SMR011

Main chip: SL1051B 0828F

It almost certainly has output current limiting / short protection.

Just connect battery to the connector, but not by using the connector - that's for the 510 atty! Simply wire battery to the internal connections of the connector. A single 3.7v lithium of course.

Much cheaper than starting with a PCC and feasibly smaller too :)

V(out) from the charger has to go to the battery to charge it, so that makes the battery paralleled to both the atomizer connection and the charger board, does it not.... or am I just tired and missing something?

I think we are saying the same thing !

Either line up atty hole with the connector, or desolder connector and use wires to extend it to the side of the larger enclosing case.

I think this weekend we'll see pics of the first finished such unit :)

Or, using the same charger, sepeate the connector for use in a standard NicoBox and use the chrager as standalone separate unit (this keeps the VP smaller). Use a (cable and) connector of your choice for attaching the charger to the Stick. Micro USB / standard DC connector, or whatever. If using a cable, dont need a connector both ends; just have the cable fixed into the charger where the connector was (or simply solder a new connector there).

As all kinds of USB leads and devices, such as mice, card readers etc, can be bought at the dollar store, that's probly best bet. And so maybe can just/store throw away the USB plug from the charger.

Yeah, forget about trying to find the info on that chip for the m401 charger. Done tried to find out. Would be trial and error to kick the charging ma up. I do beleive the charger itself is protected though. Too bad they are out of 510 chargers. Can anyone vouch that the atomizer threads for the m201 and m401 are the same. Right?

I'm all set to install my 401 charging board in my nicostick but stil waiting on snail mail from china with my batteries
