Stealth is the only way to go. What they don't know won't hurt them. And ... "they" don't have anything to biatch about. Win Win for both parties.

don't you look like a (MODERATED) when they see you? seriously, in the movie theater, I get it, no problem. I have my own office, but when it comes down to it, any body can walk through that door at any time, I would just freak if I was vaping and the president walked in mid vape. Really hate being "sneaky" and not mentioning it if there is the slightest possibility I could have been doing it above the board all along. So damned if I do, damned if I don't. lol

Took a gig where I start working in an office environment on Monday, need your best, most direct, SUCCESSFUL arguments that gained you the ability to vape in an office environment. as always, thanks in advance.

Not sure if this would work for you in an office environment but its worth a try. It definitely worked for me in a restaurant.

While enjoying a few glasses of wine with dinner while vaping the manager came to the table to tell me customers were complaining. I didn't bother to go into the E-cig story because I didn't feel it would do any good as he was a .... head. I really didn't feel like ruining the evening so I told him I had COPD and I was inhaling on my nebulizer to offset the asthma attack I felt coming on. He apoligized and was sympathetic.

You might get away with this line for a few days at work. If not, remember the line for any future places you get harassed about vaping at.

lol. I'm not sure I could use the nebulizer thing with a straight face. "Its my medicine". And if I was having breathing issues every 15 minutes or so might be a give away. I think the president is approachable and wouldn't care, but HR, I haven't had to deal with HR since 1996. Last thing I remember about them is they error on the side of caution, are conservative as hell, and live for their clip boards and any semblance of "power/control" they can get. pretty sure there is no policy in place at this point.

I have yet to vape in the building during business hours... but that's because I just got the thing (and I'm the only one that has one), and would rather go outside during breaks "like everybody else". It isn't so much about being able to get away with it, but more a political thing between the company and certain employees who like to stir up trouble. "why does HE get to ___, but I can't ____ ?!?!?".

One week in, it looks like several others might get vapes of their own, so that might change.

To be honest, I am way more worried about the company and the policy than other people and their problems with it. I just assume everyone is an adult, until proven otherwise. People that like to stir up trouble and are that petty will always find something to complain about. It affects nobody else but you, and your employer. I would hope it wouldn't be a decision by consensus only. Most people are not familiar with them, or they would understand the only thing in common is nicotine and the delivery method. That's part of the problem, it's a half hour conversation to explain it, and most companies haven't bothered to set policy to address it.

I'm in the military, so you would think if anyone would have trouble vaping at work, it would be me. My command is very supportive of it though. I don't take smoke breaks, so I can keep working while others are outside smoking and joking...I suspect that this is the main reason why they are so supportive. The trick I have found is just to be respectful. I tend to vape at my desk all day, but i usually hold my vapor in for a few seconds so it won't be so thick. When I exhale, I usually do it at a downward angle. I figure that if you are billowing thick plumes of vapor up into the air, you might encounter some issues. I have gotten more issues from my peers than from those senior to me. I think they are just jealous that they have to go outside in the cold to smoke.

Productivity.....just tell them to think about all those breaks smokers take and how you wont need them if allowed to vape away at your desk :)

I wish mine would. I work for the State of Oregon. The governor recently put through a ban on all forms of nicotine use at work, to include chewing tobacco and vaporizers. He's decided he's going to force us into living the way he thinks we should.

Some people need a lesson in "things that are none of your damn' business."
This is just a little more of the soft tyranny that's popular in government these days.

the military is often the "trial balloon" of corporate America, no doubt about that. Couldn't agree more about the respectful and discretionary behavior. Can I ask how you approached them the very first time about the matter?

I like the first 2 reasons but, personally, I'd leave off the others. Reasons 3-5 make it sound like you need nicotine to concentrate. Reason #6 is going to sound suspect to most people and reason #7 is kind of ridiculous..
Those aren't all reasons that you should be allowed to vape, those are arguments that you might be needing to use...

Arguments 3 through 6 are to counter their BS arguments that nicotine is a drug.
Argument 7 is to counter them saying that they don't want to breath in what you're exhaling.
