the military is often the "trial balloon" of corporate America, no doubt about that. Couldn't agree more about the respectful and discretionary behavior. Can I ask how you approached them the very first time about the matter?

Lol, I took a chance and just did it. I had been really excited about my e cig coming in the mail and had been talking about getting it for a while so when I started doing it in the office, everyone kind of expected it. I also scoured the regulations and the only thing that I could find was that the use of tobacco products is prohibited inside government buildings...so when people asked about it, I would just talk about how its just nicotine in a glycerol base.

I wish mine would. I work for the State of Oregon. The governor recently put through a ban on all forms of nicotine use at work, to include chewing tobacco and vaporizers. He's decided he's going to force us into living the way he thinks we should.

So you can't wear a patch or chew nicotine gum at work either?

It is deception so I would not use this at work because most generally if you lie it comes back to haunt you but Some times in a long line I take a little vape or two and when I get the raised eyebrow I simply reply with breathing treatments. Each time Ive done this I get a sympathetic permissive nod. You have to be vaping something that dose not look like a cigarette though.

First off, big sigh of relief. It only applies to "state" employees and buildings/property. So first loophole out of the way. Sorry about the fact these fascists are really turning the screws on state employees, since voluntary employment allows that stuff, don't think you can loophole out. But I will say they mention electronic cigarettes but not patches or gum.

that's cool. really surprised someone with "authority issues" didn't jump on it. lol. I thought about just kinda doing it, and then letting them bring up the discussion, and saying the same thing, it's just nic and vg, no smoke, no carbon monoxide, no flame, etc etc. But since I am starting there after I began vaping, there's really no easy way for me to transition it into my routine. i just have to either start the discussion first, or just vape and let them start the discussion.

I would not try to vape at the desk when starting a new job. If you want to bring it up, wait until your probationary period is over and you have developed a good working relationship with your co-workers and superiors.

without nicotine, might not make it through a probationary period. lol. i actually have considered not mentioning it at all, but since I have not been in this situation since 96, thats the last time I wasn't just self employed and couldn't smoke whenever I wanted, starting running the scenarios, and they all contain nicotine, 36 mgs of it. really apprehensive that if I don't vape, might find myself craving a cigarette, and I haven't even wanted one or touched one in 4 months.

Well, I never asked. I just did. I talked about quitting smoking, my doctor is happy, my family is happy, I'm happy. However, I never asked if it was ok to vape in the office. I just looked around me, and simply decided as long as I wasn't getting into someone else's space, I'd quietly vape at my desk and see if anyone said anything. No one ever did, so I just keep at it. Only one person has ever remarked on "scent," he said it smelled faintly of cotton candy in my cubicle (I vape caramel apple and strawberry lemonade along with 555 and Espresso Shot with vanilla, for the most part). I have noticed that I'm getting to be a mad vaper these past couple of weeks, this being our busiest and most stressful time of year at my workplace. I even slipped and vaped outside my cubicle with the boss only a few feet away. However, I know he's trying to be supportive. I just have to be a little more vigilant, as I know his boss is not supportive. So far, I really count myself lucky. You see, there is a sign clearly posted for no smoking at the entrance to my building, and I know for fact that I'm pushing the envelope - especially since I work in a federal office. As long as I don't get carried away, I'll likely be fine, until someone sees the words "power play" flash before their eyes, that is.

Kinda sounds like you're walking a razor's edge there, especially if your boss's boss isn't supportive of vaping.
If you're not careful, you could accidentally get the both of you fired if a coworker decides to go over his head

well, turns out most smoke there, and it turns out that they a walking disaster of a company, too many "high turnover" warm bodies, not your typical fortune 500 setting. Today, pulled the blinds, locked the door, and then came the stealth vape. the door and the blinds help. considering the "cubical people" all smell like ashtrays and worse, "unmentionable green things". I'm like a saint by "stealth vaping" as it goes. Trust me, the higher ups have far bigger issues to worry about. after my 60 days are up, I'll do it out in the open. test the waters that way. I think I can swing it. the HR lady is new, and smokes, so if I can convert her, who knows, maybe we can have a vape friendly policy, designed by, built by vapers for vapers...ha.
