Subject: Happy Vapor Day from YOUR NAME

Body:
Greetings.
Today is Vapor day, why am I excited? It has been 4 years 6 months and 3 days since I last had a cigarette!
I owe that to electronic cigarettes, I had the fortune to be introduced to them over 4 years ago. Since I started using them I have not had an analog (what we vapors call real cigarettes) since trying them.

Why do I write you, you may ask? Today is vapor day and we want to get the word out to every news organization to let you know not to be fooled by the advocates of big tobacco and big pharmacy who claim how bad e-cigs are for you. Cigarettes ARE much worse! Listen to the people using them on the streets and you will find there are A LOT more of us that have quit smoking than you think.

Thank you for taking the time to read my email, and I hope you have a great vapor day!

Sincerely,
YOUR NAME

IMO, this needs a lot more prep; no way this can be organized for the 19th. But hey, any start is a good start.

There's a commercial interest in vaping, so it's not a true "humanitarian" cause. That, and some local restrictions, puts a limit on the venue.

This will have to be mostly be made up of a lot of local events, spread throughout the country. Each event can then draw local news' attention (easy to do with Twitter, if you know how). Forget the national media; they'll pick up the story if enough local stations have it.

We have to be clear on the message; this is critical. This is where CASAA could step in, and give us some direction. From what I understand (and I could be off), there's an interest in conveying that e-cigs are a viable *alternative* to smoking, but that they should not be promoted as a smoking cessation tool.

Local events could be held in city parks, where permitted, and that leaves the question of involving vendors; It shouldn't be allowed to turn into a flea market, but having this opportunity available on the spot, could be desirable.

Food? After-meal vape?

We need clear guidelines for these events to be formed.

My thoughts stop here (so far); someone else can pick up from here?

Sigh, I don't understand why they chose a Thursday. Granted we can do something on the weekend but it would be much more powerful if we all acted on the same day. Still I'm doing my part, I handed out a couple more cards for a new local shop and I'm escorting another interested party to the new shop during lunch tomorrow. :toast:

You can still do what you plan on doing. What is being asked is in addition for on the 19th. It should only take a few minutes of your time.

I've had a PM from a board member of CASAA and was told this was a good idea. What I'm suggesting is something to tie into World/National Vaping Day. Something that EVERYONE can get involved with. We, as consumers, ARE allowed to claim e-cigs as a smoking cessation tool. Only VENDORS are NOT able to make that claim. If they were to make the claim, the burden of proof would be on the vendors and then e-cigs would fall under the drug laws. We do not have that burden. Trust that I have done my research on this.

Other vape groups have things planned for that day or that weekend.

For those of us that do not have any groups close, and those that do, this is a way for everyone to at least get involved in Our Day ;)

As far as being pulled together in time for the 19th, hey, the more people that pass this along the better turnout of EMAILS. That's all that is being asked of people. A list of Email addresses will be provided. I'm sure I would be able to put them in this thread or maybe SmokeyJoe would do a sticky with them. Put them in the BCC line of the email, list yourself as the main recipient. Title in the subject line. A short paragraph like what Scuba noted in post #62. Send.

Piece of cake. :D

Just takes seconds. All we need is computers. People can take the time to just send a little email before work, during work, after work or just before sitting down and watching TV.

Also, since we are looking to send to the news outlets, this is a way to actively try to address the bad press that they have been spouting for weeks and months now. Doesn't it just make you mad enough to try to turn them around? IF they see success stories flooding in don't you think that it just might make them think for just a second? Even if we can get one person from a news agency to think.......

Idealistic, maybe. Isn't it worth trying?

This is great! Not a life story. Just a few words saying that they have been helpful to you and how you feel about them.

Nice letter Dan! Thanks for giving us a place to start from.

The first ever Vapors convention is being held in Anaheim on the 20-21 of September, maybe they can put together a Happy world vaping day video...make signs, shout out one at a time how long they've been smoke free, etc.. Like SWF did recently in one of their videos.
I hope lots and lots of vapers attend the special event in Anaheim!

We both know that, my point is that CASAA and vendors may not want to, or be able to, join an event that promotes e-cigs as a smoking cessation tool, because it may reflect on them.

It would only take one person showing up with a huge banner that reads "Quit Smoking: Start Vaping", causing all the sponsors to bail out, including CASAA.

You and I are free to think and say anything, but sponsors may not have that luxury, because of the fragile standing of e-cigs and pending regulation(s).

You do have a valid point. This is only meant to show some unity amongst us that vape. The wording can still be decided. We are really counting on your backing. It will take cooperation from everyone.

I'd like to see this succeed.

Events without sponsors could work just as well, with no restrictions. I'd just hate to see problems happen, and sponsors leaving upset, because one person did something well intentioned, but misguided.

This is unique to the USA, so if we're going to talk about a national/world event, things should be clear, IMO. We can't just say "Let's do it" and it's done. Someone needs to talk to CASAA and a number of vendors, so proper guidelines can be shared.

One could setup a GT at a local bar; would that be ok to most people?

One could setup a protest event at a city hall; is that ok?

One could break a city ordinance, and organize an improptu protest vaping event on city property; would that be acceptable?

What's a proper venue, to stay within the spirit of the event?

I'm finding out right now if CASAA is in fact able to claim vaping as a smoking cessation device. I will let you know when I hear back.

I know there are a lot of vendors, just by attending the CASAA meetings, that would love to be able to make that claim. They cannot or they would get into trouble. You can be sure that they are rooting for us. I really doubt that they would pull out of any sponsorship if some one came out with a huge sign making that proclamation.

CASAA encourages us, as consumers, to make that claim. They encourage us to tell our stories on how we have been able to make that switch, when the Calls to Action are sounded.

I really wish someone from CASAA would visit this thread.

MY BIRTHDAY!

Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 4

Me Too! I was thinking going out to a good dinner, but I would rather put the money into a pair of good T-bones to make up at home. Hubby gets good use of our indoor grill! You would think it would be whimpy but he learned it well. A pair of russets. sour cream.

Most vaper clubs are members of CASAA. They have been communicating for months between themselves. None of this has been spur of the moment, except for Tvan and I coming up with this idea. I've gotten a PM from the president of CASAA stating that this was a good idea. Since the date is rapidly approaching, I'm just trying to be proactive. At least getting the idea out there and discussed.

If things need to be tweaked, there is still time to tweak them. Nothing is supposed to be emailed until the day of the 19th.

All I'm doing is this little bit. Trying to gather people to be ready to send a short, non-attacking email, telling how ecigs have enabled them to give up cigarettes. That's all. Nothing that is being sponsored by anyone. Just regular people telling their story. To the press.

Let them have a voice. To give them a positive outlet to feel like they, as individuals, have a voice against those who wish to get rid of what we feel passionate about.

Deep breath. My passion is showing......sorry 'bout that.

I'm not sure that contacting the big media directly is the right approach; their job is to report on events, nationally, not becoming *advocates* for the people, which is a *rule* in *good journalism*.

You'd have better luck with a petition, handed over to city hall, on event day. The petition could simply be to request that e-cigs be recognized as safe, and a viable alternative to smoking, and that citizens will continue to express this, yearly, to maintain the availability of e-cigs, pending FDA regulation(s), if any.

In other terms; "leave e-cigs alone" (let the FDA deal with it)

Cool lots of people on board with this! Its good to see. I hope our main message is the positive vaping has brought to our lives. Those with chest ex rays and verified Medical data should do their best to tell their stories. IM all for writing our stories to the misinformational networks. Im up for anything that can get us in a good light. Im currently working 70 hr a week but I have a few hrs in the evening please feel free to ask if theres any thing I can do to help.

I would also like to toss out the idea for a National buzzzlove day. I think this would not only be positive for our community but would make the world a better place;-)
