New Zealand television reports that Auckland University's Clinical Trials Research Unit is seeking volunteers to take part in trials of the e-cigarette.

It is believed that this will be the first true clinical trial of the electronic cigarette and, specifically, will looking at whether it delivers nicotine to the brain more quickly than other nicotine replacement products.

The chief researcher Dr Hayden McRobbie said:
"At the moment the message is quit or die and we've got to give people other ways of stopping smoking and other options."

Well, quite.

The first set of results are expected to be available by the end of March.
