No. My wife would kill me. :p

And my hubs would kill me.

However, if I were single, I don't think I'd rule someone out just because they smoked. However, I'd turn them on to vaping real quick-like. I don't think I could handle being around a smoker for long periods of time (relapse)...nor could I deal with having to kiss ashtray mouth.

OMG, I can't believe I just admitted that I used to have ashtray mouth. (I did chew lots of gum and mints, however.) ;)

My bf is a smoker. And he wants no part of the ecig or snus. We haven't really argued about it but we've had a few heated discussions about it because I won't let him smoke in my house or my vehicle. His smoking is really starting to bug me though because I hate the smell that clings to him. I have mixed emotions though because I don't want to come across to him as elitist vaper type since I smoked for 20+ years before switching to vaping, but I am getting fed up. He's a great guy but I really wish he didn't smoke. My former hubby, who was a non smoker who put up with my smoking, never complained about my smoking...I guess because he loved me and knew I was a smoker when he met me. Now in hindsight, I don't know how he did it. :)

BTW, since being single, this guy is the first guy I've ever been with who is a smoker. I kinda feel like a hypocrite.

Let's be honest, smokers smell like crap, and taste like crap.
We all know this now, and we know how disgusting it is.

I voted that it depends.

I'm not going to blow off someone who seems perfect for me.
But I wouldn't date just anyone who smelled like that, and kissing them sure would suck.

Now that I know what my wife was talking about all these years, I feel like such a ......... for subjecting her to that.
I never did believe her that I smelled so bad, or tasted like crap.
I thought it was just a ploy to get me to quit.

If she hadn't been a smoker when we met, I wouldn't blame her for steering clear of me.
And someone would have to have incredible charm, beauty, and intelligence for me not to steer clear of them for dating purposes.

So the answer is, I would tolerate it as best I could if the person seemed perfect for me.
But other than that, I would just move on to someone else.

I made a comment once, back shortly after I joined this forum nine months ago, that I hoped I would never become a rabid anti-smoking ex-smoker. Someone responded very briefly that I would become one. Still hasn't happened, and I don't foresee it happening in the future. At my age, I think it's likely there are more significant issues to work through than her being a smoker, life leaves scars on all of us. But, if I truly cared, I'm sure I'd try to convert her though, for her own health's sake. And, then we get into the whole, take me as I am, don't try to change me thing. It's not a simple subject. But, I wouldn't steer clear for smoking alone.

As has been said before, some vapers quickly adopt the language and attitude of anti-smokers. That is a real shame. It is also ironic that this poll asks a question that could have applied to most of you only a few days or weeks ago. Pathetic really.

I don't think that many people who answered were that 'anti-smoker' about it, myself included.

I don't intend on being a rabid anti-smoker, I just hate the smell. I hated it when I smoked. So much so that I would wait until the car got going at a decent speed and I knew I wouldn't be stopping so I could hold my cig up to the window and allow it to go out. I always chewed tons of gum and mints, and carried a toothbrush or mouthwash with me. I also washed my hands immediately after smoking and applied pretty lotion so I wouldn't smell. I wore hats and stuck my hair up into it or wore hoods on my coat so my hair wouldn't absorb the smell. I've actually had people tell me that they could never smell it on me, which surprised me, but I guess I went through a lot of hassle to make sure that I didn't. I also never smoked in my house.

I've also always hated secondhand smoke, if you can believe that. Couldn't stand a smoky bar or cafe. And when my husband would smoke in his car and held the cig in a way where the smoke was filling the vehicle, I would flip out.

Anyway, sorry that's probably a little TMI, but even though some of us smoked for many years, we still hated certain aspects of it. For me, it's the smell. And now that I haven't smoked in over a month, I really, really, really notice it, and it bothers the hell out of me. I'm just being honest...maybe I shouldn't have been??

EDIT: Oh, and I also have never chosen a smoking hotel room. That is the worst rank stale smoke smell EVER.

I cannot fathom why anyone who feels that way would ever light a cigarette in the first place. I love the smell of a freshly-lit cigarette. Why did you even bother?

How can a dog lick its ... without vomiting? I have no idea.

I haven't been to my shrink lately, but I tell you what...the next time I go, I'll be sure to ask him. Then I'll come right back here, first thing, and report his deep psychological findings on this thread so that you can be assured that people who hate the smell of smoke can be smokers simutaneously. ;)

Easy answer? I started young and got addicted. And I have ADD. Smoking seemed to be the only thing that allowed me to sit still and concentrate.
