I know right? I can barely tolerate to be around someone who has just smoked. I have also had patients who reek so bad, that when they leave I have to spray their room because it still smells when they leave. It's embarrassing that I now know I used to smell like that.

I feel the same way but since I was a smoker for so long I tend to keep it to myself. Otherwise I'd feel like a hypocrite ... since I was putting people through the same thing. But yeah, once you get the taste and smell out of your system smelling or tasting it again can make you cringe and think to yourself "I can't believe that was me".

Oh, I would never tell someone that I think they stink either. Except my hubby. He doesn't smoke, but frequently goes to a bar that allows smoking and I tell him he smells like he's been in a fire in a Marlboro factory. He understands though. He was married to a full time smoker for 14 years, and he thought the same thing about me. :p

I went to visit a friend the other day (a smoker) for just a couple of hours and when I got home, I had to put my jacket and clothes in the washer. The strong cigarette smoke on my own clothes made me nauseous. For twenty years I never knew how awful it really smelled.

Also +1 on what bigsmke said.

Yeah, by "keeping it to myself" I was speaking more towards my feelings towards it. I doubt very few ex-smokers would actually have the gull to tell a current smoker how bad they smell ... or rip them for smoking. Though, there are "those kinds of people".

I just find myself thinking in the back of my head "man that smells ... but DEAL with it because that was you not so long ago". If that makes any sense. lol

And I don't think anyone thought you were looking down on current smokers pat. We all completely understand what you're going through.

Back in the days when smoking was allowed everywhere, everyone smelled like that to different degrees and it wasn't considered an awful smell. Everyone had an ashtray on their coffee tables for guests even if they didn't smoke. We have been conditioned to associate that smell now as bad.

It is a lingering odor, for sure. Congrats on the 13 days.

So I've only been analog free for 13 days. My wife only smokes when she has a few glasses of wine and tonight...well she has had a few. She just came in from outside and holy $@%!...she smells like total ...! I cannot believe I smelled like that!!

It really is quite an eye opener for sure. I'm sorry I put my girlfriend through the same thing for almost two years after she quit cold turkey!

We kiss a lot more now :)

I am on day 27 for me, and I totally understand what you guys are talking about. I asked my wife, a non-smoker, how she dealt with me smelling like that, and she very bluntly said, "I love you, that's how." I used to try to conceal the smell/taste the best I could with gum, brushing teeth, and febreeze, but she informed me that it didn't help. I am so glad to be off the stinks!

I personally haven't said anything to anyone that comes in from smoking, but it puts a smile on my face to know that I made the change. Big ups to this board for helping me learn so much, as well as find my local Vape Shops.
