I love the local B&M's and I don't mind paying more, most of them here in the Gulf Coast area are very new and they throw things in for free, (like drip tips and free samples), also I mentioned I saw it cheaper on the net and they met the price.

I love the new Vaper Bars, it's great to sit and vape samples and talk to people as they come in, I met some great "Sisters" who recommended some great juices and one great gal introduced me to clearo's. It's a great social experience if you find the right place.

My favorite Vaper store is remodeling this weekend to add a lounge, I'll probably drop buy once a week just to visit with fellow vapers. They also give one bottle of juice free with the purchase of five and have a points saving system. Their prices are slightly above the net, but I'm not complaining, they are great Ladies!

see i would love a place like that here, i can understand prices being higher just not 300-500% higher. and if you mention you can get things cheaper online they take it as an insult and just tell you to go order it online then.
not to mention non of them seem to know anything about vaping themselves and are all super cocky. a member in my area suggested a few new places here local that i didnt know about, think ill go try to check them out this weekend:)

I haven't found any B&M in Manhattan -- just a few tobacco stores selling at prices like $20 for 15ml of liquid. So I thought maybe I could start one.

I don't have retail experience so I'd have to hire a manager.
Set-up would involve painting, buying cases, etc.
I'd have to get lots of stock and, at the rate this industry changes, some of it would become unpopular before I sold it so I'd probably have to sell that stuff at cost.
I'd need to incorporate it (lawyer fees) and have an accountant.
There would be utilities -- electric, water, phone.

But first, I'd need to rent a space. So I went to all the commercial real estate sites and the cheapest storefront I found was a place that had been a tiny, 2-chair barber shop. It's on a side street with almost no foot traffic and is not near any subways. $50,000 a year.

I know New York is an extreme example, but you are fooling yourself if you think the markups at most B&Ms are too high.

When these type threads spring up on ECF, it always makes me ponder what I used to spend on analogs ..

I'm used to paying $16-18 a pack, but I still consider $40 for a faky Nova a slap in the face. Some mark-up is expected, but that's just screwing people over. Add a clueless angry clerk to the experience; I don't feel bad about not helping them stay in business. I'm well used to paying a premium to local stores with great service for other hobbies, but there's a limit. Main problem for starting vaping shops in Norway is that you can't sell liquids with nicotine. Really sucks.

i could agree more my local shop has crazy pricing. i only go in to get random flavors when im tired of my diy menthol but its $5 for 5 ml. i have gotten to be friends with the owner of the store and for my tips and advice on what to sell he gives me deep discounts. last time i went in he had did clones for sale but had no idea how to build a wick and coil. after making one for him at his store and letting him try it he gave me one of the clones for free i said i didnt need it because i have other genesis's at home but he insisted and i accepted. this just goes to show you in this community if you take care of others they will return the favor!

mtbakervapor.com sells 50ml bottles of juice for $10, with free shipping on orders $50 and more.

considering you can buy 60 ml of 24 mg nic base for under 5 bucks with a very reputable nic supplier and another couple bucks for the flavor, what's your point? free shipping at 100% markup when you spend alot? no thanks.

Hey All: I don’t have the luxury of Brick & Motors being down the street like some of you, something I posted back when I first joined! I wish there were but 16 miles each way going up and over towards Santa Cruz I wouldn’t call local! I think these discussions are great but I think we’ve lost sight of what the original poster has shared with us a link to getting Great prices on equipment a lot of us use! I jumped on the band wagon right away! I’m almost two months into my Vaping experience and I saw the deals in front of me straight up for what they are! I guess my opinion might change some when & if I do get that local store down the street! But for now I’m enjoying these Great Prices and looking forward for my New Goodies to arrive in the next few days! Those Pro Kangers look very interesting! I’ll let you all know what I think of them!

True, yet the VN theoretically will last forever with an occasional re-wick ..

I just dipped into vaping recently and you live and learn lol. Trust me, I'm not too happy about spending a premium at my local vapo store. I spent around $120 on a setup (Lambo 4 mod, an RDA drip type Atty, 4 flavors of 0 nic at $7 a pop).... After looking around, I probably paid around $50-$60 too much.
Kinda hurts but at the same time got to experience it in a retail store and supported local folks. I prolly won't do it again unless I'm desperate to get something right away.

Happens online too lol, I paid $50 for a VAMO when I could get it for $26 at Vaporbreak.

But I'm learning, next step is to make my own e-liquid. I think $7 for 10ml 100% vg 0nic is a ridiculous price.

Think of it as supporting your local business. The expenses of maintaining a small brick-and-mortar operation make it impossible to compete price-wise, but you also can't walk into an online shop to see and try stuff.

I agree with this, but some markups are too high. $40 for one ego battery, and $14 for one clearo are ridiculous prices. I wouldn't shop there. We recently got our first store in town, and I went there to look around and talk vaping and buy something to support them. The prices weren't as high as in the OP, but were pretty high, and they had a very limited selection. Worse than that, the owner didn't know very much about vaping. He had never seen a passthrough ego before and had never heard of a vivi nova. I bought some tanks for my ego c at three times the price I normally pay just to be nice. But I most likely won't be back.

I would gladly pay more for a couple of items just to keep them in town if they were a better store. But I would never buy an expensive item that I could get online for 1/3 of the price.

All the money we used to spend on cigarettes, when did we all get so cheap??

Just because we have the money to spend, doesn't mean we should. I like the fact that my bank account has extra money every month since I quit smoking. I will gladly part with some of it to enjoy this awesome hobby, but being ripped off is a whole different thing. Being smart with your money doesn't automatically mean being cheap.
