THIS I take umbrage to. I do NOT look like this. Admittedly, I DO look more like it now, than I did a dozen years ago or so when she got it.. I think she sees into the future...

Nice Mr. LeBeau,
What kind of tree are they hanging on? Thinking its gotta be a fir?

Now THAT is actually a story... Yep, Fraser Fir. Been doing nothing but for 25 years..

LOL pretty sure that's what it was but didn't want to assume. I cut down and sold hundreds during my college years. They grow them in Michigan or import from the NC mountains?

So the fraser fir story...

25 years ago, the Mrs. and I decided to go to a "cut your own" tree farm (30 miles away then, and 1 mile away now.. weird).
Being the practical and lazy sort, I toss a chainsaw into the car. I didn't know then how SOFT a fir was...
We get ALMOST to the farm, and there are two ladies pulled over on the shoulder of the road, struggling with a tree..
So trying to be in the spirit, I stop to help them. Well, this tree had a root ball. A GIANT, FROZEN root ball...
Could hardly even BUDGE it. That root ball must have weighed.. 300 lbs., maybe MORE. BIG tree too...
The older of the two started to get mad at me!
Clearly being impatient, She finally BARKS at me: "JUST PICK IT UP"
So I said, "Sorry Ma'am, I don't know HOW they got this on your roof, but I can NOT get it back there"

Cranky lady says "WE didn't drop it, it was LAYING here". Yeah.. I'm thinking about that chainsaw now...
So I said, Well ladies. I am NOT going to be able to pick this up. Clearly, they used a forklift or something to put it on a truck, and it fell off.
They shrugged, I shrugged.. They got in their car, I got in my car.. They drove off, I.. you bet. I got that fargo chain saw.

OMG. It was SO fresh. We loaded it into a GMC Jimmy. We had to put the WINDOWS down, it was steaming up the whole inside of the car!
And it smelled so LOVELY. And when we got it home, and put it in the stand, and cut the strings that bound it.. it unfurled into the most AMAZING tree...

So now we get Fraser firs. Have a cookie.

No, they grow em here. Up north, widely spaced. I guess they need a lot of sun, AND cool temps. :)

This I why I shouldn't enter contests...didn't know all the rules...never saw them spelled out...I won't clog up another contest...let you guys and gals win...I never win anyways....happy holidays.
It's absolutely worth entering, post when and as you can. We all like to see new winners, and the chit chat posts are where we have fun, learn about each other :)

As I said, people with only one post have won in the main ECF thread, and those with the minimum number of points in the social media parts of the contests have likewise won. Random.org is a respected random number generator.

Ya gotta play to win :)

My favorite is going out into the woods and finding the most perfectly shaped cedar tree, cutting it down and bringing it home. Nothing on this earth beats the smell of a cedar tree! Oh the memories!!! Of course now I use a fake one.

OH MY GOD, yes. I'd never cut a cedar, those are precious hardwood around here, land of the Garbage Box Alder. But I DO have to trim em sometimes, and they ARE fragrant beasts! LOVE that smell!
