the point is the ability to use a thicker gauge wire. this for me is the reason. a thicker gauge wire just has better flavor. this can be because it has less resistance therefore is cooler, it also covers a bigger section of the wick. you can say that with a vv device I can also use thicker wire, maybe yes, but you would have to make to many wraps to get the resistance above the cut-offs. mechanicals are for low resistances, 1 ohm and under without the worry of errors and produce very thick clouds of vapor. before you start you need to know that low resistances produce much more amps and if you don't have some quality batterys there can be issues. you need batterys that can handle these lower amps. another great thing you can do with them is to pulse oxidize your wicks, this cannot be done with a vv device. good luck
