I need some help. I have always wrapped coils around a 1/16 bit and threaded cotton through and it has been great. It's still my preferred method BUT my wife on the other hand......she burns a wick at least once a week. I have some 2mm ecowool and some silica. HTH do you wrap a decent coil using this stuff? LOL...it took me an hour to finally get her something that worked and fit within the RM2 deck. I can't seem to wrap a coil and thread this stuff through it. I was able to insert a tiny bit 'through' the ecowool to help firm it up while I wrapped. It's uglier than anything I've ever seen but it is working and she likes it. I like it cause I won't have to change her wick every other day.

So....any tips?

(I feel like such a newb).

Here's a different approach at least for silica: I look at which way it's woven vs which way my coil wraps... Put it up against the end of the coil and spin it like I was threading a screw in to a nut. When my brain gets what I'm looking at right, it spins right through just like threading a screw... when my brain gets it backwards, the silica unravels in a hurry ;)

What I can and should add...: I prefer cotton so much, I just make a habit out of re-wicking every other night before bed. Then I always have fresh wicks whether I need them or not.

Have you ever tried ReadyXwick?
Comes in 2mm & 3mm sizes.
3mm for 7/64" bit and 2mm for 1/16" bit.
Much better than silica, lasts much longer, less fraying, and easily be "threaded" into coil.
Expensive, but I bought a foot and has lasted me all year as 1 little 3/8" piece of wick in the coil will last over a month easily with regular dryburns!
