Alrighty. Been unable to get a consistent coil with my new AGA on the LavaTube and wondering exactly what affects the resistance the most and what the ideal number is. Apparently it's the number of wraps (of course taking into account the wire GA as well. So, this new knowledge combined wih a much better tutorial shared with me by arrowsmit should come in handy next time I rebuild my atty. Thanks folks.

its more the distance of the wire and not wraps. thats why on your wick a 3/4 wrap of 30g has a different resistance then a 3/4 wrap of 30g on someone elses. so the diameter of the wick comes into play. on the lava tube most likely you cannot go below like 1.2 to 1.3 Ω. so maybe with a kind of normal sized wick for the aga, you would need to do a 4/5 wrap of 30g, or 5/6 / 6/7 of 28g

You know no matter what I have done I get a burnt taste. Have recoiled 2x now. I know I will get it eventually. Just discouraging!

You'll get it my friend. I had to wrap about 5 or 6 coils before I got one that finally worked right. And when you do get it right, you'll be loving it. Plus the gratification of having set it up with your own two hands. Having different guages of wire will help, taking time to oxidize the mesh, making sure nothing is shorting anywhere, correcting hotspots. But you'll get it man, I have faith in you.

Here's another video that I watched when I was first starting to oxidize and wrap coils. Duane Greene is one of the experts on genesis style atomizers, and I still use his method for the mesh, though I have been wrapping my coils (with paperclip still inserted into the mesh) directly on the atomizer. That's the only thing I have changed from his method, and it works great for me.

I forgot to mention that another thing that I've done different than Duane's method in his video is I use a 40mm x 40mm piece of mesh instead of a 40mm x 60mm piece. The wick hole in the AGA-T2 is smaller than the original AGA-T in the video and requires a narrower wick.

The 1.5" is the thick part the 3" is the length.

well that might be you're problem. 3" is way too long, and 1.5" is way to thin. Since your wick is that long it may be shorting out on the bottom cap or top cap. And I find that the thicker the wick, the better it wicks the liquid. You don't want it too thick to where it's grinding on the wick hole creating a short. I would, if you want to stick to inches, make another wick 1.5" x 2.3". 1.5 being the length, and 2.3 being the width or thickness of the coil. Make sure the wick is pulled away from the bottom cap when inserting and attaching coil.

I'm not getting the flavor lately with the 32g 5/6 wraps at 2.4Ω. I decided to try the 30g wire again. This time I wrapped my SS wick 5/6 times and it at 1.4Ω. Is this a good set up. Should I try lower ohm's?

I seem to like 30 gauge better with 4 wraps and 1.2 ohms. But better yet is the kanthal flat ribbon wire, which is what I've been using for the last couple of weeks. Good stuff!
