The menu's aren't really that hard to figure out as some are letting on if you are just paying attention a little bit.

The top menu is constant with the only change seen is when the display area is narrow and some of the items are put into the 3 bar menu so all of them are available... other than that, it stays pretty much the same.

The menu area just below it... call it the secondary menu is area specific. So if you are the main forum, it'll contain items relevant to forum posts like the "Watched Thread", Watched forum" etc... in the Conversations area it has actions related to the Conversations. As the area is narrowed down... the other items that can't fit on the screen are placed onto the ellipse menu ( ie 3 dots like ... )

Well, it's not quite that simple. The "New posts" button should be available on every screen, but it's not (it's not there when looking at a profile, or alerts, or a conversation, for example

I, and others, are paying attention and do have them figured out, but menu's and sub-menu's that need to be visible for ease of use, somtimes aren't.

I agree -- when I get an alert of a new 'conversation' and click to that, then to get back to the actual forum, I have to click one of the forum-msg alerts I've already read, just to get back to a screen that has "Watched Threads" at the top.

Well, yeah, it is that simple. "New Posts" is there on every context. Point at "Forums" in the top menu, and a drop-down list pops up. There it is.

"New Posts" is out of context for the Conversations area... it only relates to the main forum area where posts are made

Agreed... the submenu is for things related to that area... ie in context.

Yes, the dropdown has been mentioned already, but it's an extra click. No reason it shouldn't be on the submenu. If the logic is "it's in the forum dropdown", then just put everything in the drop down and get rid of the menu system altogether.

But it's not out of context, because for those that surf the forum via the new posts button, once you are done reading a conversation or alert, you'd want to hit new posts for your next destination.

But, either way, for those of us that have followed the thread from the beginning, retired has already stated that the new posts button should be available from every page and it's on his todo list.

These danged horseless carriages!!

Man oh man... it's not even an oh-so-difficult click. Just hover and it's there. Kinda like magic.

Can ya hear my tone? That's why I'd never make it as a mod.

I guess you missed this part?

If the logic is "it's in the forum dropdown", then just put everything in the drop down and get rid of the menu system altogether.

The menu system is in existence to make surfing the forum easier and to access areas with fewer clicks. For one widely used icon, it's not doing that.

I don't think that's the reason you'd never make it as a mod.

I just checked that drop-down thing... it's actually a little down-arrow on the right side of the "Forums" button, which is only there if you're NOT in the forums -- if you're in the conversations, for example. The drop-down only works if you hover *over that down-arrow*. Good to know that's there! :thumb:

Kent - Thanks for the explanation. I can now avoid often resizing my browser width.

That's one solution, Dick. (we can now spell your name out!!) Although it would help, if the admin/coders could rearrange the categories as laid out in my post, for people who have other things on their desktop or for people with ipads, and other smaller devices, where the most used categories would stay in view and not be 'hidden' in the "..."

When you leave a conversation and opt NOT to receive any new responses, is the conversation actually deleted (vs. just not visible in your inbox)? If not, how does one delete a conversation? Please forgive if there's a drop down somewhere for this; I'm using an iPad and haven't yet found a "delete conversation" option. Thanks!

I realize this won't work for everyone, but I got used to it on the old forum, this is why I open pretty much everything in a new tab. Each thread that I go back and forth through is in a new tab. refresh watched threads tab to see who's posted in which thread, then I go refresh that tab where that thread is. I just prefer closing something when I'm done rather than re-navigating, and don't mind having 7-10 tabs across the top open.

Interested to hear what's happening with pms, if they're deleted or not and if they show up in searches.

Me three. The language in the leave the conversation box (and choices offered) are rather ambiguous...

If I choose to leave the conversation and ignore future messages, will the thread be deleted?

dunno what that does really. I expect they can no longer pm you in that particular conversation, but dunno if it prevents them from starting another one with you

I just want to be able to delete old PMs--and have them gone. Hard deleted--not hovering somewhere in cyberspace.

Nothing is ever really gone! Unless I want to find it again, then it's really gone!!

Teeheee... How true!
