Isn't the the sort of regulation called for in the article what we're mostly in support of here?

Age restrictions aren't controversial. I don't know of any retailer that doesn't already apply them.
I think that we call all agree that standards for ingredients -- from restrictions on certain (harmful) additives to standards for testing and record-keeping are certainly in the best interest of consumers. I would assume that any reputable company already has strict standards in place.
We can debate endlessly on marketing. I'll bet we can agree that limiting some health-related claims is beneficial to consumers. (I say "some" as claims like 'safer than
tobacco cigarettes' are very important and should be not only be allowed, but required.) I think we can also agree that marketing to children and teens should be restricted, though the industry, again, has already held themselves to that standard.
On fruit and candy flavors, well, I don't think I can fully express my opinion on flavor restrictions without violating forum rules. That's going too far.
