As several others, I have been visiting this forum for a while before making myself visible. But now its time, I guess
.
I am an Italian living in the US. I have smoked every single day since I was 21 (which happened 23 years ago), and I never thought about quitting. I like smoking, despite everything, and all the pressure against it (especially here) makes my contrary spirit shine so bright that it always seemed a pity to extinguish it . But - I was smoking too much.
Recently, I heard of an upcoming ban in my workplace (outside, because inside it is already banned), which would extend to the whole property (more than a mile all around), so I figured that I needed not to be caught unprepared with a 22-a-day habit. Fortunately, e-cigarettes had arrived, because any other nicotine delivery system I had tried -to cut down on my habit or survive international flights- was no fun at all.
I got myself two pen-style kits from Puresmoker (excellent service, as others have commented). It took me a couple of days to start liking the taste and feeling of the e-cig. After that, I went from 22 to 12 cigs a day in the first week, then to 8 and, for the last 10 days, I have been down to 4 or 5, which seems about right for now.
I still like real cigarettes better but, all in all, I thought this would be a lot harder. I did not feel any weird effect from e-smoking (although I think I am getting less nicotine than before), nor do I feel better or worse. But I am pleased with this cut, and with the freedom that comes with it. All my friends in the US (not a single smoker among them) have been very supportive about the e-cigarette. But most of them were pretty nice about my smoking anyway, as they would often come outside with me while I smoked real cigarettes and all of them thought that the tobacco ban outside was way too much.
Anyway, I wanted to introduce myself and, especially, thank the members of this forum for all the useful information and the interesting discussions I have seen here - I wonder whether the nicotine blood level of the participants has anything to do with the lively exchanges....
