Ok, I'll go next......

I tried my first cigarette at age 15 because several friends were sneaking cigarettes and I was curious. No one in my family smoked except for my dad, who smoked a pipe for just a few years when I was little. I ran long distance in high school and college so I rarely smoked during that time. However, in my twenties I had a roommate who did smoke and whose friends smoked......I ended up smoking a little more. I've always smoked off and on; I'd go for a few months without smoking, then smoke only "socially", then go through a stressful time and smoke a pack a day for a few days, then get disgusted and start all over again.

Then a member of my husband's family had lung and esophageal cancer. I had already watched my mom die of a cancer unrelated to smoking, and it wasn't pretty. This was different because this person smoked 2-3 packs per day and there was a clear cause; this finally hit home for me. I realized when I went to help with her care that I did not want to end up with a feeding tube, having treatments, being sick for months on end, lying around with no quality of life whatsoever, and then dying - and that I might have at least some control over that.

I had seen someone in another country using a PV in a restaurant in 2007 and wasn't even sure what I was looking at. It didn't smell like anything, yet it glowed and there was "smoke" coming out of the guy's mouth and the end of this......thing. We chatted and speculated about it and then I promptly forgot about it until I was surfing the web in January of this year and GreenSmoke popped up in my search. I remembered what I'd seen and ended up ordering. January 21, 2011 I started vaping and quit smoking (other than that last Marlboro Light in the drawer, two days in; didn't even finish it). Two days later I found ECF. In another week or two I had my V4L kit. I keep reading about bigger units and mods and such but I am happy with my V4L stuff and I find it very satisfying. I'm vain about how it looks, so the slim size, blingy batteries and drip tips are great.

My transition was fairly easy, probably because I've always been able to go without cigarettes when I really tried. Plus, I've never smoked in my home, and the winter here is pretty good incentive because even the garage is ridiculously cold. Physically, the biggest changes for me have been that I don't use nearly as much salt, my lung capacity and pulmonary function is better and I don't stink. Mentally, I feel better about myself and I get a little thrill every time I open up my vaping box of supplies or receive a package. It's all good!

Hi....

My story is rather short. I went to a party last last Sunday. Saw a few people vapeing. I had been really considering getting back into smoking for a month or so now. The crud in analogs was never my draw to them, I just liked having something to puff. All the vappers I know use V4L. I ordered the uber starter kit and extra batteries. The next day I ordered more batteries, then later that same day I placed my 3rd order, more batteries and cartos. All the stuff I ordered for myself is 0mg, but I got some low mg stuff for my friend. All and all I have 10/9 batteries (7 XLs), 80 or so cartos and a PT. One battery missed that 3rd shipment, but from what I read everywhere, that will get taken care of.

Wed when I got the 1st shipment, I instantly vapped chocolate and clove. Made myself totally sick. Have learned to drink more water since starting this whole hobby.

Oh not quite my story, but till he gets on here and tells it himself. My friend is also loving it, and not wanting analogs. As a social smoker, his next social event will be the telling point.

:?: huh ? you had a banana cat ? I want one too please  not a yellow one tho :smokie:

:D My Fuzzy Nanners was black as coal; I have no idea how/why I started calling him that. Among many other nicknames. :D All my cats have had numerous "nicknames", most of them nonsensical. I give a whole new meaning to the term "pet name." :)

I am waiting for Eleanor to post her story still :(

:laugh: Soon, darlin', soon, I promise. Maybe even tonight, after the All Saints' Day Mass. :)

Ok, lets try to reply in order Kev... Sorry typing out loud...

Ok @Lisa, I know how rough it can be with seeing someone else pass away from cancer, that was how my Uncle was back about 5 or 6 years ago, and my aunt as well, and I know my Uncle's death was from a brain tumor and my aunt was from drug addiction. But the one thing I got worried about was the lung/throat cancer. I am just glad that you have changed over.

@Russet, when you start vaping, like you said it is VERY important to be drinking more water, unless it is menthol flavored. And I have even made myself sick from vaping too much, especially when it is a new mod, or new battery. I get the "Nic High" and if I keep going I get sick.

@Eleanor, what is the All Saints' Day Mass? I am not a religious person, but I grew up Christian, but never herd of that.

I am so glad I vape 0mg juice, or else my sick wed would have been so much worse. I am pritty sure it was the clove that sent me over the edge of headache to migraine from below. A few less draws and half gallon of water Thursday and I was good. I gave the clove cartos to my friend, he likes them and ain't sensitive to them. I still get a headache if I take to many draws off a fresh carto to rapidly, but it don't turn into a migraine. Also this was useing the PT which burns so much hotter than the batteries. I nearly burned myself quite a few times Wed using the pt cause it was getting so hot.

@kk why don't you need to drink more water if you vape menthol?

It takes a lot to scare me, and I am pritty sure I am sensitive to PG, but not enough to be a major bother unless I go crazy, like Wed. Water and keep an eye on how bad my headache gets. In a few months they may go away, and I will find out most of this was just a dehydration issue. I can't stand tap water so for the most part avoid water like the plague it is. But I got me a few gallons of distilled water and am drinking that happily.

Russet (sir correct, the lack of avatars is killing me ecf) really don't know why Krazie sir said that. Menthol is more soothing to the throat (hence it being used in cough drops), but the vg/pg will still dry you out. It's like taking pain killers for a hurt joint. While the pain is dulled, you're still doing damage to the joint if you're not taking it easy as well, which leads to even more damage done....

Russet,

+1 Morandir.....PG or Propylene Glycol and VG Vegetable Glycol are sugar alcohols and it's the alcohol that dries out your mouth and throat. There is no exception flavor to the rule, even menthols.

Russet, you don't need to drink water per se....any fluid will do. The key is simply to stay hydrated and you probably want to drop down a level in nicotine since you are suffering from headaches....that shouldn't be happening.

preferably decaffeinated (and/or non-alcoholic) drinks as they can contribute to dehydration as well.

While the science holds true of ethanol (booze), the jury is still very much out on whether or not caffeine causes dehydration. In any case I do think that the "drink massive amounts of fluids" is a little overblown. Taking in more fluids than usual, say an extra 1-2 quarts outta do the job and will help flush out residual chemicals and MAO inhibitors from smoking. The full cleansing process takes about 3 months, which is why you will more than likely have cravings for the first 3 months.

As well, if you are experiencing an itchy throat or a dry cough about 10 minutes after going to bed you may want to look into alcohol-free toothpaste and mouthwash. When I first started vaping I had this occur and I thought brushing my teeth and gargling would help......little did I know I was making the problem worse due to the alcohol. And the fact that when you lay down to go to sleep your mouth does not produce as much saliva.

OK, first things first: :)
@Eleanor, what is the All Saints' Day Mass? I am not a religious person, but I grew up Christian, but never heard of that.

November 1st of every year is the Feast Day for all the Saints in Heaven (not just the canonized ones, but all people in Heaven). It has been that date on the Liturgical Calendar for well over a millenium. It is a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics throughout the world, meaning we must attend Holy Mass on that day in honor of the saints. (The next day, November 2nd, is All Souls' Day, when the Church prays especially for the souls of all the dead still being purified or "gotten ready" for full communion with the Godhead in Heaven.)

In Old English, the word for "saint" or "blessed" was "Hallow" -- thus October 31st is always "All Hallow's Eve," or "Halloween.":) An old superstition (not Christian belief) began that, on the eve of all Saints' Day, the demons and spirits in Hell were permitted to roam the Earth, in a sort of anticipatory "protest" against God and His saints. Thus the association of Halloween with evil and all things scary!

Now, for my vaping story::)
I began smoking regularly at age 16, when I went away to school. A carton of cigarettes cost $5-6 (!!), and as a Virginian, tobacco was considered a birthright! (Hey, it was the 1970's . . .:D) I smoked about 1-1.5 ppd for the next 35 years, and had no intention whatsoever of quitting -- come hell or high water. I remember smoking in classrooms, on airplanes, in courtrooms (or at least the hallways), and everywhere else an ordinary human being would go (except Church).

I loved smoking. I loved it as if I'd invented it. Especially after I became really ill (non-tobacco related) in about the year 1999, smoking was one of my last, and certainly my dearest, pleasures and consolations.

Of course, the world had changed by then. Except for my Mother, none of my relatives allowed smoking in their homes anymore (those who had smoked had all quit years ago). Smoking was banned not only on planes, but generally throughout entire airports and in most restaurants/pubs. Some people felt it was perfectly acceptable to tell strangers who smoked that they "stank." I had no intention of quitting, but was very tired of the hassle, and the hatred, and the second (third?)-class citizenship. Even my best friend (who smokes!) would banish us all to the outside porch at big family gatherings and feasts! :grr:

One night in mid-2010 I was listening to the radio and heard an advert for something called an "electronic cigarette." I don't recall the brand, but I was intrigued by the concept. Around November 2010 I got online and began researching these "things" as an alternative to "real" smoking whenever I had to be at someone else's house (oh the joys of the Holiday season in the Kansas City climate! Brrrrrr . . . .).

After receiving a starter kit from an infamously not-great brand (and darn near coughing my fool head off every time I tried to puff their nasty cartos), I laid aside the idea entirely until January 2011. That was when I found ECF, and from there, Vapor4Life, and from there: vape heaven!

The first week with my V4L kit I just vaped a little each day to get "the hang" of it; I couldn't believe how tasty and enjoyable this PV was! I still smoked throughout the day (especially with those cherished first cups of coffee), but found that I was spending more and more time with my new yummy "toys" than with my old, old ciggy friends.

One day I tried, just out of curiosity, to have my coffee with just my vapes (no problem!), and by the end of the second week I went to bed one night (January 27) realizing I hadn't had a single cigarette all day! Nor did I want one!

So just like that, I, the world's most determined smoker, became an avid and happy non-smoker/vaper without even meaning to! I went from 8mg to 18mg before settling in at 11-12mg, and have explored numerous flavors before whittling down my "main" vapes to about 6-7 (cough). Needless to say, the super quality of V4L's products, and the company/advice of this here forum, made it all that much easier, and keeps me vaping happily to this day. :)

(Sorry to inflict my first novel on you guys.:laugh:)
