Well - I was just sitting here vaping away when all of the sudden I got an awful AWFUL burnt taste from my atomizer. I dripped another couple drops on my atty, and still - this burning plastic taste.

I just finished cleaning it with a dry burn, and running it under water (I've had the best luck with this method). I reprimed my atty with a few more drops and to my surprise, the taste was still there. What the...? I thought maybe I didn't get all of the gunky stuff off, when suddenly I looked at my atty, and there is a piece of the wick poking out with singed ends on it. I carefully cut that little piece off and now I'm wondering - Is it my wick that is burning? If so - what can I do about it? Or is this atty done for? I have an exposed atty (http://www.modernvapor.com- look at Sidesho). I tried to dry burn it again and this plastic-y burnt smell and lots of smoke is coming from it now. When my coil heats up from the dry burn, I *THINK* I can see the wick above it. I don't know if it is touching the coil or not - Its so hard to see in these things!

Help? =(

AS I understand it, the wick is made of fiberglass or some such material that cannot burn. Probably needs more liquid to prime after the cleaning. Whenever I clean them, it takes 2-3 sets of 2-3 drops to get the atty properly primed

Tough call without being there to see what's going on, but...

When you do dry burns do you rinse well first with REALLY hot water, dry burn, and rinse again?
Or do you dry burn and then rinse, which is what it sounded like?

I will say this though... if you dry burned it again and got a lot of smoke, it needed more dry burns... generally you should be dry burning until no more smoke at all is coming off.
That is when you know it is clean.

I guess my cleaning method is not as thorough. I simply soak it for a few minutes in very hot water (just under boiling), then rinse in the cup with fresh water, then dry for 24 hours. I then dry burn just until I see orange, and gently blow away any residue that results. Then I prime.

Sorry - I guess I should have been more thorough about my cleaning method. I rinse under hot water, dry burn, and rinse again. I did dry burn until no more smoke came out the first time and re-rinsed. I primed it after that and still got that awful taste - so I tried to dry burn it again, (after rerinsing) and there seemed to be a whole lotta smoke when I just cleaned it to no smoke at all. I've been trying to just make it through that taste and keep dropping a few drops directly on my atty, but it doesn't seem as though that taste is going away. I'm wasting a lot of Ms. T's Blueberry Crumble which makes me saaad. =(

Did you drop it just before it started tasting bad? I had one that I dropped about 4 feet onto some filthy asphalt by a fuel island. It landed vertically, squarely on the atty opening, with no cart on it, and the full weight of a big mod behind it. The way it landed, the atty didn't show much damage. I cleaned it off with a rag, and tried it. Horrific burning plastic taste. I couldn't see anything foreign inside it, and still don't know if it was asphalt or some weird damage to the atty. I had to stop using it.

That's kind of the same thing I do actually, for the most part.
But you are making it a little harder than it needs to be.
:)

If you follow the legendary Highping method, you don't have to let it dry first...

SO! I'm sure I've figured it out now. I bet this wouldn't have been so hard and I wouldn't have wasted so much juice if I would have told you how I was vaping. I was using a passthrough. Which - I've been told, since its vaping at a higher voltage, some flavors just don't work. My Blueberry Crumble tasted like burning crxp, but my Cinnamon Danish Banana is wonderfullllll. :)

Sorry for the stupidity, I'm learning. XD
