Mostly in my honest opinion the variable watts is just a way to get some extra price from a mod.
Don't get me wrong, there are times when the function of the mod which adjusts the amount of volts going to your atomizer/carto/whatever to a preset amount of watts is going to make your life easier, like when you start your vaping and have found out through trial and error your very own "sweet spot" to which you want to adjust your mod.
But as time goes on and you start using numerous vapourizers, say different coil cartomizers, clearos and rba's you find out that the amount of power needs to be adjusted according to the current device you are using.

So I would go with a Provari and a fully mechanical mod with a Kick to cover all the bases.

I went with the Zmax after great internal debate. The main reason were the cost and features. I don't really care much what it looks like as long as its not huge. The way I see it is I like to have the latest technology hitting the market and versitality. The Zmax provides them both and at half the cost of a provari. Sure the provari I can pass on to my grand children but are they going to want a dinosaur? Am I going to want a dinosaur in 10 years or even 5. Certainly in 5 years technology will change in vaping enough to make the provari obsolete. It's was said above that might be the case now. I'm certain I can make my Zmax last 5 years. If not I'll by another and still be under the cost of the provari. Plus the provari doesn't have VW and it's not telescopic. I think it's a no brainier. Would you pay twice a much for a computer that was guaranteed to last 20 years? No, your not going to want your computer in 20 years.

congrats on your new purchase!

congrats on your new purchase!

Thanks. I'm loving it. First mod and a good one. Had to go to the mall last night. I was vaping like a rockstar! I found I really like having something that in no way, shape or form looks like an analog. When people see it the last thing they think is a cigarette.

I don't need nor do I expect my ProiVari to work for 20 years. Two years would make me happy. With that said, I will never buy a China made PV that costs more than $50. I've heard way too many horror stories about them crapping out in the first month. If you keep buying PV after PV eventually you will have spent the $160 that a ProVari costs. At least I'm 100% confident that my ProVari will be working in 2 years.

If you're happy with your purchase then more power to you. If it keeps you off analogs is all that really matters.

My buddy is a new vapor as of today to quit analogs, I was doing a carton a week of camels when I harassed my friend over his torpedo kit in early march. Drank a bit and new I needed to quit smoking. I had picked up a smoov rev and that lasted me quite some time, love the process of smoking so I don't plan to quit vaping once I switched over, sold my smoov rev to my buddy and he quit smoking hisself. The smoov worked liked a beast and I loved it; however, given I'm a drinker and like most analog users I tend to chain smoke.. The smoov wasn't doing it and that's why I needed something different. I had done a grip of research and the provari mini seemed right for me. Scored one a couple weeks ago and I am still beyond satisfied. Works like a boss and is always delivering top quality hits every time. In addition it is pricey as hell, but It is made in America and I purchased all the fixes with it. That large of an investment I will be certain I have everything I need with it as well as the extra warranty. I personally think it is better then the zmax, but for different reasons.

My other friend I took to a local vape place today, they tried selling him on some simple models above the torpedo kit. I had talked to him for a whole about vaping and he told the guy no, and pointed out their mods. At that point he brought up their Zmax. This was my first time after he purchased it, using a zmax. Honestly, it's a great vape for a cheaper price. Not quite the same but it delivers. Depends on how long you look to use your mod for consistently really

Zmax V3 in hand right now! Loving this thing. I've never used a provari and can't imagine how it could be any better than this. I've had mine about a month and not had a single issue at all. The best advice I've found on here was too glue inside the tube where the battery connects to the board I used gorilla glue, which expands to 3x it's size after drying. It sealed the black tube in place indefinitely. My screen is perfectly straight and I wanna keep it that way

I was just PM'd requesting more info on the glueing of the internal of the zmax v3. Here's what I did...

just get some gorilla glue and remove the battery tube
drip 4 drops inside the tube in a square pattern
do your very very best to hit the black plastic and metal frame with the drops
don't put the drops where they line up with the oled screen they could drain into it
leave the mod in its current position with the 510 thread on the table
wait an hour or until the gorilla glue dries and puffs up turning a yellowish color
you're done at this point. If the gorilla glue expands too much for you to get battery contact don't worry you just take a long thin knife like a steak knife and cut the raised glue out by putting the knife at the base and pulling up the small glue balls that popped up

----DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT get ANY glue in the middle metal circle that the battery touches----

I own both the regular Provari and the mini Provari. I bought them when I finally committed to give up analogs for good. I had tried a year earlier with several different devices -Egos and such but did not quit analogs. It was an added incentive you might say for me. When I think of how much they cost my desire for an analog is quickly extinquished :) I spent days and days researching and what was written was the absolute truth. I dont worry that they will fail me and that confidence supports my decision never to smoke an analog again. I love them both. I use them both daily with my two favorite liquids and I can finally say after 5 months analog free that they were the smartest investment Ive ever made.

Kind of a bad analogy if said PC came with a low cost upgrade option when something new comes out (like the provari upgrades) then yea i would

Not having to do preemptive repairs out of the box maybe makes it worth the price? dunno.... having things built correctly kinda pays for itself LOL

I used a vamo v3 for a month and then decided it worked well enough to quit smoking cigs. Then I bought a provari mini and it's been a couple months now, haven't touched a cig, and I'm a picky guy, actually I didn't even want to quit smoking. My vamo is great but the provari is just so solid and I believe it really does vape more smoothly. If your thinking of it now you'll probably end up buying a provari anyways..
