Not a fanboy but I do like it... a lot. I'm adding a note about battery replacement to this post I made earlier on New Members Forum. Also, this Zmax V.3 only requires three clicks to bring up the menu, not five.
The Sigelei Zmax V.3 Telescopic (flat top) arrived in the mail today. Talk about a happy camper! I love this thing. It's like having a freshly charged 4.2V in my E-Power 14650 all of the time, instead of the first 15 minutes.
Everything works. The thing looks mint. The detailing on the brushed stainless steel is gorgeous. The switch is just want I wanted with a nice positive feeling click. I can fit the Sigelei w/18650 into a jeans pocket but the fit with the 1100 mAh 18500 battery is just perfect for me: less than 1/2" longer than my 1050 mAh E-Power 14650 (and at least twice as heavy). I'm running 6.5 watts and loving it. Incidentally, with the Sigelei in watts (power) mode it will remember power and RMS settings during a battery change but be sure to turn the Sigelei off (menu item #1) before removing a battery. The little Sigelei brain doesn't like it if the battery is removed/replaced when the electronics are powered up.*
The only thing I can register any complaint about is the OLED screen. The read-out is just slightly tilted, but not as bad as on the Pbusardo videos. I thought this was going to be fixed for V.3. I really don't notice it now that I'm using the Sigelei and I'll be happy to live with this. I haven't used the clearo that came with the kit so I can't say anything about the eGo threading feature. I'll be using 510 cartos and tanks. The tube threads are nice but I will be cleaning and lubing them this evening. The telescoping body screws down snug with extremely little to no free play. This is a great rig and a bargain at $75.
*Sigelei brain freeze explained. This happened to me twice today as I was playing around with different battery configurations. I'm used to running an E-Power 14650. When I want to change batteries with the E-Power I just unscrew the battery tube and change it out. Simple.
An extra step is required when changing out a battery on this Sigelei. Before unscrewing the battery cap or tube go to menu item #1 and power off the device. 1. OUT ON/OFF. Choose off. Now change out the battery.
If I don't power off the device before removing the battery cap, replacing the battery and screwing the battery cap back on the Sigelei will not fire up following the three button clicks. Nothing happens at all. If I try to fire it up again after about two minutes then the Sigelei name will appear on the OLED display but it will still refuse to fire up. It's only about five minutes later that the Sigelei will fire up and return to full function operation.
The Sigelei brain freeze happens because the battery was disconnected while the electronics were fired up. It takes this device about five minutes to complete a reboot and start operating normally again.
If you should do a hot battery disconnect and find that the Sigelei will not fire up again with the new battery just leave the battery in place and set the Sigelei down for a good five minutes before you try to fire it again. After five minutes pass it will work fine again.
