Scott makes good stuff. First choice for firefighters among most others needing quality optical protection. The compatibility with NBC canisters is a big bonus.

If its good enough for firefighters, then its good enough for me. The other one I am looking at is the MSA Advantage 1000.
Like this:
MSA ADVANTAGE 1000 LRG CBA/RCA GAS MASK NEW - eBay (item 330541660901 end time Mar-16-11 20:00:33 PDT)

The good thing about the MSA is that there are snap on tinted visors- good to conceal identity as well as block out the sun. But at twice the price, with expired filters, I could also just buy 2 of the Scott's get 2 in date filters and tint of of the visors myself for daytime use, but that means carrying 2 masks. Too much to think about...

Dont really know that I need a mask to begin with. I chopped the long hair off this weekend, but I aint losing the goatee.

Just remember thermal dynamics, if it dissipates quickly, it absorbs quickly as well! Aluminum vs cast iron engine heads are a great example. Aluminum is lighter and dissipates heat quicker but is also more likely to warp and suffer from metal fatigue from the thermal cycling. Cast iron is heavier but less likely to 'junk out' if your engine overheats once or twice. There's always a trade off! I had a free floating handguard but the downside was it required removing the barrel if I wanted to remove the handguard... Not very field friendly at all.

Mutt: I wouldn't worry as much about identity concealment. In the post z-day world, there won't be that many people and you're more likely to be identified by your clothes, weapons, and equipment than your face. That will be a lot 'safer' to remember than faces. This is going to be a post trauma world where people normally won't want to remember faces in case they might remember them 'later'. Plus, you'd have to swap masks every time you entered/exited a building during the day... I'd look into tear-offs instead. They'll run out eventually, but then again, so will everything eventually.

good point...I will go with the cheaper one with the in-date filters...plus, I can always have it tinted with a very light mirror tint or even that tint you cant see into but can out of. I dont know why I am worried with concealment cause like you said, the clothes and accessories will be a giveaway, but for some reason I feel I NEED to conceal.

It does serve a psychological purpose, both for you and any living hostiles you might encounter. Being a 'faceless boogeyman' can have it's advantages. Anyone who doubts this has forgotten why Halloween seems to upset a lot of pets. People and animals heavily rely on seeing someone/things eyes to determine their intentions...

You can mod the aluminum keychain pill bottles or if you can get a lathe and some delrin, you can use food grade tubing with your choice of diameter. Those are the two I've heard the most about and I actually bought some V2 Clearomizers. I like them better than carts and attys but not as much as my dripper tip on a mega 510 atty.

I have already broken 2 MAP tanks in non-zombie/survival situations. I am waiting on the Giantomizers. Tank mod with a metal casing an a window cut out to observe liquid levels. Sounds more applicable to me.

Have you gotten to cap any rounds off with that new AR yet? I've had one since 96. Can't imagine how many rounds I've put through it. Imo, they are great rifles.

Oh yeah! Shoots nice but a pain in the .... to clean. Learned the hard way what pins to pull when the trigger and spring flew past my face! LOL. Ordered a mount and scope today and can't wait to see how she does a little further out! I hope to make it home this weekend and shoot some with the wife if my testing goes well with the coast guard exam in the morning. If not it will be another weekend of studying and no beer:( already have to stay sober for saint Patricks day so I'm NOT a happy camper!

Yeah, just the one in the back and occasionally the front pin if you want to completely break it down into a compact size. Invest in aerosol cleaner and an old toothbrush for cleaning the hard to reach places. Cleaning the bolt was the biggest PITA problem I had with mine. Lube it up heavy, and clean in as soon as you can after shooting. Once it dries out, it seems like you do more chiseling than cleaning deposits off it.
