I’m back today with my second review for JWEI (Eleaf). This time I’ll be taking a look at the iStick i40 mod kit that was sent to me by JWEI in order to provide another fair, honest, and hopefully informative review on this device. The i40 kit comes with the i40 mod which has an internal 2600mah battery that is charged via a 5V/1A USB-C charging port on the mod. It is a simplistic device that offers only VV or VW. That being said, I usually only run VW on my mods anyway so it’s no big deal that it doesn’t have TC or any other modes. The tank included is the GTL D20 which is a pod tank with a 3ml capacity and uses the GTL series coils. I don’t see many 40 watt devices on the market that are actually mods any more but am guessing this one is targeted at the MTL crowd since it comes with the two higher resistance coils of the GTL series.

INITIAL THOUGHTS:

The packaging for the iStick i40 is almost identical to the packaging I saw with the FlasQ that I very recently reviewed. They arrived in a black box with the large green Eleaf symbol on the front and back with a small picture of the device on the front and the name. The back just has the same symbol and a warning near the bottom.

Eleaf once again decided to put the contents list, specifications, company information, and a bar code on one side. The opposite side has an authenticity code and some icons with a few features listed. I’m not sure why but just like the last one I reviewed, the sticker letting you know that the kit comes with the new black mesh GTL coils is attached on the corner of the box.

Once the tray is slid out of the box, the iStick i40 is visible sitting in a foam insert with the GTL D20 tank sitting beside it. Underneath the foam insert is where you will find the remaining items included in the kit. They are a warranty card, user manuals for the mod and the tank, a USB-C charging cable, and two black mesh GTL coils. The coils included with the i40 are the .8 ohm GTL coil that we saw before in the FlasQ kit which is rated for 12-18 watts and the 1.2 ohm black mesh GTL coil rated for 7-13 watts.

The i40 is wrapped in what feels like a padded fake leather material on both sides and around the back. I received the orange and pink versions for my review. On one side of the mod there is the iStick i40 name stamped into the material and on the opposite side is the Eleaf name and insignia stamped. The back side is just smooth. It has a nice feeling in the hand and is very lightweight.

The top of the mod holds the slightly raised 510 connection with a gold plated spring loaded center pin and there are two torx head screws holding the top plate in place. Not much to look at on the bottom but there are three battery vent holes which is something we don’t see on all mods. I find it interesting that the 510 outer plate has four grooves cut out in it which would make me think of old mods and tanks where the airflow came in from the bottom or something.

The i40 has a maximum output of 40 watts and has an internal battery rated at 2600mah which should provide at least a full day of vaping for most people depending on the topper used. Of course it does have a standard 510 connection so you could run any tank on it but will be limited by the 40 watt output.

The front of the i40 has a large round fire button on top followed by an OLED display screen, the + and – buttons, and the USB-C charging port on the bottom which only charges at 1A. I would have thought it would have been good to have a 1.5 or 2A charging rate with a 2600mah battery. The display on this one is rather simple like the FlasQ. It shows only Coil Resistance, Set Wattage or Voltage, and a Battery Level Indicator. Although it is a simplistic mod, it does have a few button operations. They are as follows.

• Press the fire button 5X to turn the device on/off
• Press the fire button 3X to enter the Setup menu
• Once in the setup menu, press the + or – buttons to navigate to VW, VV, or Screen to turn on/off the screen(stealth mode)
• Press the + and – buttons to lock the adjustment buttons but the mod will still fire
• Press the fire button and the – button to flip the screen 180 degrees

The i40 seems to have the same safety protections as the FlasQ. I have a feeling that it’s the same chip. The safety protections are as follows.

• Low Volt = Battery is below 3.3V and display will show alert and shut off until charged
• Short = Alert will show on screen if coil resistance read is below .2 ohms
• Over 10s = Unit has a 10 second cutoff
• Check Coil = No coil is detected
• Unit has a resistance range of .4-3.0 ohms

The tank included in the kit is the GTL D20 which is a magnetic base pod with a 510 threaded base connection. As always, I recommend disassembling and cleaning any tank before using it. The tank is broken down into three parts which are the 510 threaded base, the pod portion, and the 510 drip tip. When the unit is first received, there is not a coil installed in the pod.

The base of the pod portion has four magnet to hold the pod into the 510 base. The GTL coils are simply pushed into the pod to make a leak resistant seal. The inside of the 510 base has a metal ring around the upper outside giving the magnets on the pod a place to attach. Below that are two spring loaded gold plated contacts that apply the power from the mod to the coil. The pod has a sliding top cap that you simply push to one side where the arrow is on the top cap to expose the fill port. I like that it doesn’t have a fill gasket.

The D20 has two separate sets of airflow holes to allow the user to obtain a nice MTL or a somewhat restricted RDL experience. The airflow adjustment ring is built into the 510 base. There are four smaller holes for MTL and four larger holes for RDL. The airflow ring does have a positive stop.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

To me the iStick i40 brings back memories of old school mods. Back in the day I had a handful of the original iSticks like the iStick 30. The display on the i40 is simplistic yet gives the necessary information that you need. Would it be nice to have a puff counter? Yes but not really needed. I like that they made the i40 with a standard 510 connection instead of making it a pod mod connection. This way you can also use any of your tanks that will operate with less than 40 watts of power. With a maximum voltage of 8V it obviously has a boost circuit which should help with higher resistance coils. It’s very lightweight even with the D20 tank installed and could see it being used as a pocket carry mod. However, with the magnetic pod base you can knock the pod off the base. The 2600mah battery should be enough to last most people for a full day at least.

The D20 tank holds 3ml of liquid and surprised me as to how long it lasted especially when using the 1.2 ohm GTL coil. I decided to use a 24mg salt that I had left over from another review to test this coil and ran it at 12 watts. Flavor production was pretty good and even with the four smaller airflow holes open it was a fairly restricted MTL. You can close off more holes if you like an even tighter MTL.

With the .8 ohm coil I ended up at 17 watts but could easily run it at the maximum rating of 18 watts. I had all four of the larger airflow holes open and got good flavor but it was still a little too restricted for an RDL that I like. I think if there had been one more of the large holes then it would have been a better fit for me.

So, would I recommend the Eleaf iStick i40 for you? If you are a low wattage vaper and like smallish lightweight mods then yes I would. I’ve really enjoyed testing it. The colors of the device are very captivating and recall the flavor it contains, of course the dimensions and weight are compact and pocket-sized, the quality of the plastic used for the construction seems very good.

I would have compulsively vaped all the flavors sent to me, but I had to take breaks because 20mg/ml of nicotine is suitable for someone who wants to quit smoking successfully, but not for me who quit smoking in 2017. The smooth MTL type extraction is perfect and is incredibly fluid. I'm sure Chillax Micro will have a great success on the market and I suggest you try it, you won't regret it because it's absolutely an excellent product.

► Thunderhead Creations Blaze Solo RDA; First Impressions:
ThunderHead Creations, together with popular reviewer Mike Vapes, has introduced a new vaporizer called the Blaze Solo RDA. The device is distinguished by an innovative design of the "Victory" deck, a capacious bowl and an attractive design. Blaze Solo RDA is made with 316 stainless steel and aluminum. This item is available in nine different colors, among which there is a particular variant with a glass dome for the evaporation chamber. The novelty supports drip or Bottom Feeder vape types and comes with an 810 drip tip in epoxy resin. For this test I decided to combine the 24mm Blaze Solo RDA with the Revenant Mod BF which is able to support medium / high powers thanks to the replaceable 21700 battery.



Sourcemore sent me for this test the THC Solo RDA in the Silver Black color version, in the image below you can see the two macro elements that compose it. The bell is made of aluminum with a consistent thickness and bears the silver "Blaze" writing in relief. The SS steel base on the bottom has a slightly protruding 510 pin that can be replaced with the BF drilled pin included in the kit.



After unscrewing the Pin, the Blaze Solo RDA can be completely disassembled for cleaning operations, the "victory" conformation of the deck with honeycomb holes can be disassembled and is isolated through an accurate design of the peek material.



► Thunderhead Creations Blaze Solo RDA; AFC System:
In the following pictures you can see; the innovative "Victor" postless build deck with a 315° surrounding airflow design, the intensity of the airflow is adjusted through two opposing downward-slanted slots. By rotating the dome around its axis, you can make all or part of the 43 holes (honeycomb) intervene to select your preferred air passage. The internal design of the bell is designed to maximize vapor compression.





► Thunderhead Creations Blaze Solo RDA; Building:
The "V" Postless deck is designed for the installation of a spiral coil, which will be fixed with the Allen screws on the sides. The coil-tool in the package is very useful for cutting the legs of the coil to the size that the deck requires, I cut the legs of the coil to 8mm.




After inserting the coil on the deck, I did some activations with the Fire button to eliminate any hotspots. Then I inserted the cotton lace into the coil and softly slipped the ends of the cotton into the buttonholes.





► Thunderhead Creations Blaze Solo RDA; Vaping Test & Final Conclusions:
For this Test I used TOB Tropical with VG/PG 70:30 and boost 3mg/ml. The Blaze Solo RDA tank has a capacity of about 2ml and this allows a good use also as a drip, however I chose the configuration with the BF pin for the Squonk. Even the Blaze Solo RDA, like all THC products, denotes an above-average constructive care, with precise manufacturing tolerances and quality o'rings. In particular, I liked the ease of construction and the differentiation of the aluminum (bell) and deck (steel) materials, and the low profile resin driptip is really nice. The aluminum material of the bell is thick and dissipates the heat well of the Clapton Fused Coils (26GAx3 + 38GA/Ni80 ID 3.5mm, 0.2Ω) that I installed for testing. With 52 watts of selected power and with the two slots completely open, the passage of air is considerable and little braked, the flow is directed downwards, and the 43 holes with a "Honeycomb" arrangement invest the entire surface of the coil well, generating a lot steam. The compression of the chamber seems optimal because the taste is quite good, I would say above average. I was pleased to note that even when the slots were partially close, the heat in the tank never reaches annoying levels, and this is a clear sign of a good choice of materials. During the test I did not find any defects, moreover the airflow slots are positioned rather high and this is a further advantage because it is practically impossible for the liquid to escape.

Zovoo x Voopoo VINCIBAR F600 Disposable Vapes: Warm and Tasty!



That’s right, folks! Another new disposable device product has been released by Zovoo (Voopoo). This time, we take a look at the Vincibar F600!

These were kindly provided to me for review by Zovoo/Voopoo (thanks Fiona!).

Off the bat, I can already tell you that these new products are somewhat reminiscent of the Vinci Pod devices that Voopoo have launched, e.g., the Vinci Pod SE. So, in terms of having a familiar form factor for Voopoo fans, this definitely ticks that box!

Quick specs:

• Dimensions at about 92 x 20 x 12 mm in a very pocketable, rectangular shape.
• 400 mAh battery.
• Having a 1.5 ohms coil. I couldn’t find information about coil type, but I think it’s mesh judging by its performance (more on that in a bit).
• 2 mL of e-liquid capacity, for up to 600 puffs.
• Available in 10 flavours and in varying nicotine strengths, depending on your region.

A classic Voopoo (Zovoo) product, the Vincibar F600 announces itself as such with white bolded lettering in front of the device, stating its model name and the flavour within. It comes in a compact and colourful box that will tell the vaper about the product, including manufacturer information, safety precautions & standard warnings, instructions for use, flavour, and nicotine strength.



Speaking of regulations, the Vincibar F600 as I’ve received them should be TPD compliant. I don’t really talk about TPD too much in my reviews, but it’s basically the prevailing tobacco control directive in EU member states/regions, and in the UK as well (as the UK still has to enforce its own regulations following its exit from the EU). So, for vapers affected by TPD, this should be good news because then the Vincibar F600 should be widely available!

Going back to the device though, it is encased in a plastic shell that has a satin finish. Let me tell you, this one feels really nice in the hand owing to this smooth texture! It is also very lightweight, which just makes the device very comfortable to use as a whole!

There are 2 holes at the bottom of the device: one is an airflow inlet, and the other is for the LED that lights up when the device is in use. This light also gives a low battery warning sign by blinking repeatedly.



The flat mouthpiece is fixed, but is quite comfortable to use, nonetheless.

Without any means for adjustments or control, operating the device is very easy: just unpack, puff and vape! As such, it’s quite ideal as an emergency back-up vape or for being on the road. And, this does bring me to probably my only “wish” for this device: I do think this device would really benefit from a USB-C port just to top up the battery a bit, to be sure that all e-liquid will be exhausted.

As for the draw, indeed, this is for MTL vapers. It gives a nice and well-rounded medium MTL vape; it’s not too loose or too tight, which fits my style perfectly in MTL. And what’s even more impressive, especially considering that it has a 1.5 ohms coil, is that the draw from it is actually MTL-warm! This is pretty significant for me, as I’ve tested my share of TPD disposable vapes and where most fall short is draw warmth (manufacturers want a higher number of puffs for 2 mL of e-liquid = low power going to coils to minimise vaporisation = tepid vape). But not the Vincibar F600, this one gives me an amazingly warm MTL vape, even in the cold winter we are having right now in the UK!



And for me, that kind of draw warmth means a denser and punchier vape, which is really satisfying! Perhaps some of you may relate, but with me, I tend to “puff more” when the vape is weak to reach a certain satisfaction level; however, I take relatively less puffs if each draw is full and hits just right. The Vincibar F600 is certainly the latter, with the awesome vape experience I’ve had with it!

I have been sent to try five of its available flavours: Strawberry Ice Cream, Pineapple Mango, Mango Ice, Strawberry Kiwi, and Banana Ice. All flavours have cooling in them in varying degrees to complement the flavour notes. The fruit-based flavours were absolutely wonderful- I’ve said it before that Zovoo vapes are one of the best for flavour in the disposables scene, and the Vincibar F600 still makes this claim true in my experience! The strawberry, mango, pineapple notes tasted like the fresh fruit, and the banana tasted like a candied/caramelised version- all of which were really nicely mixed to deliver wonderful flavours. The Strawberry Ice Cream was also a nice surprise, with the creaminess coming through in the background of each puff!

Final Thoughts:

Combining the Vincibar F600’s amazing flavours, warm medium MTL draw, portability and ergonomic form factor, I have every reason to recommend this vape device to vapers out there! I know the choices for starter devices out in the market are plenty, especially with disposable vape kits, but a new vaper will not go wrong in choosing to try the Vincibar F600.
