Hello and welcome back. Today I’m here to discuss the Vaporesso Luxe XR Max Kit that was sent to me by Sourcemore in order to provide you with a fair and honest review. It’s been a while since I’ve reviewed any Vaporesso products. I had been a reviewer for them for several years but lost touch with them the end of last year and have been unable to establish a contact again. Anyway, I’m here today to talk about the Luxe XR Max. I really liked the original Luxe X and Luxe XR and have been wanting to review the Max for a while now. Sourcemore was nice enough to comply so here we go.

The Luxe XR Max is the third device in this series preceded by the two that I just mentioned. It is a bit larger and has a 2800mah high density battery with a maximum output of 80 watts while being powered by the Axon chip. It does come with two pods with coils installed for RDL and DTL vaping using the GTX series of coils. It is also compatible with the Luxe X and Luxe XR pods so is capable of being used for MTL also. The included pods have a 5ml capacity that help to keep you vaping longer before needing to refill. The Corex heating tech and SSS technology of the GTX coils promise to provide a flavorful and leak resistant experience.

INITIAL THOUGHTS:

The packaging for the Luxe XR Max seemed quite familiar even though I haven’t reviewed a Vaporesso product in quite a while. The front has a black background with the Vaporesso logo in green in the background. To the front is a color picture of the Max that is contained inside. As you can see, I received the silver version for my review. In the upper right corner is a gold medal letting you know that it uses the GTX coils and is compatible with the Luxe pods.

The back side gives a little more information than many devices I’ve seen. Not only is there a contents list and company information but Vaporesso also included a list of the specifications for the Max.

Once the outer sleeve is removed then underneath you are greeted by the Luxe XR Max with the DTL pod and .2 ohm GTX coil pre-installed. It is sitting in a plastic tray that holds it securely. Sometimes devices can be difficult to remove but Vaporesso thought of this and placed a plastic pull strip underneath the Max which makes it super easy to lift out of the tray. On the right side is the user manual sitting inside a black cardboard sleeve. Underneath that is a second 5ml pod with a .4 ohm GTX coil pre-installed. Also included is a USB-C charging cable. The Max comes with a clear plastic wrap completely around it so you do need to remove that in order to operate the device.

As I mentioned, the Max comes with a plastic wrapper around the body which you might be able to tell in the pictures below. I left it on so you could see how Vaporesso printed operating instructions on one side. On one side is the Luxe name printed under the clear section of the body with the Vaporesso logo above on the main body. The opposite side is where the slightly protruding fire button is located. It is a little hard to see since I received the silver version but there is a shiny silver trim around the fire button that would be more highlighted on another color. Printed on the plastic wrap are the basic operating instructions. I’ll go over the complete operation in more detail later.

The display on the Max is a little different than I’m used to. It does show a battery level indicator along with a percentage number in the indicator which is nice but a little hard to see sometimes. Below that is the set wattage and the puff indicator that also shows the length of the current puff while the button is pressed to fire the coil and for a second or two after the button is released. It seemed odd to me that the coil resistance is not listed on the display. I didn’t catch on to it at first but the coil resistance is shown when you insert the pod for a short period of time. Also when you first insert the pod the display tells you to press the fire button 4X to enter the menu and gives what the Axon chip considers to be the best wattage setting but with the smart feature turned off it does not change the wattage setting. Another thing that is different on the Max is that the + and – buttons aren’t really buttons. They are touch sensors that are indicated by the arrows that you can see in the picture below. You don’t have to worry about accidentally changing the wattage because you have to press the fire button three times to adjust the wattage. Once the button is pressed three times then the display will flash and you can adjust the wattage. Simply press the fire button once and it will lock in your setting. There is also a menu system available that is accessed by pressing the fire button 4X. The menu options available are as follows.

• Turn on/off the LED light
• Turn on/off the Smart mode
• Clear the puff counter
• Back to the main interface

The Smart mode when on will do pretty much what you would expect. It automatically selects what is considered to be an optimal wattage setting and will not let you adjust beyond the preset limits. I personally don’t use the Smart mode on any mod but it’s good that it’s there for beginners so that they don’t damage their coils. I usually don’t like LED lights on a device and normally turn them off if the option is available but I really like them on this one. Not only are they cool looking with the circuit board background but they also have a function in that they are a quick reference as to what the battery charge level is without having to try to see the small font on the battery indicator. The three levels are as follows.

Green/Cyan = 60-100%

Cyan/Blue = 30-60%

Blue/Rose red = 0-30%

The LED also acts as a warning system for safety features and give the following indications.

• Low resistance, short circuit, no load, high resistance = LED flashes red 5X
• Low voltage = LED flashes red 3X
• High temperature = LED flashes red 4X
• Over time = LED flashes 5X in current color

If the button/ display side is facing you then on the left side is a single airflow opening with the Vaporesso name stamped into the body vertically. On the right side is the sliding airflow control that slightly protrudes from the body and allows the user to adjust the airflow with the down position shown being fully open and sliding it up will tighten the draw.

The USB-C charging port is located on the bottom of the device which is rated for a charging rate of 5V/2A which relates to a charging time from empty to be about 1.4 hours. Also on the bottom is the Luxe XR Max name and the 2800mah battery capacity rating.

The opening for the pod has the standard gold plated spring loaded contacts. However there is a third contact in the opening rather than the standard two. I looked through the literature and didn’t really find out the idea behind this. It’s my thought that if the coil is centered in the pod then it shouldn’t matter whether which way you insert it to make contact with the pins.

You can see in the second picture below that there are four magnets also that hold the pod in securely. I did however notice a little movement front to back with the pod inserted so the tolerance isn’t quite as tight as it could be. This didn’t affect the operation though. You can also see the opening near the top where the airflow control is located.

I thought it was really nice of Vaporesso to include a card with the Max that shows how all of the different Luxe pods and GTX coils are compatible with the Max. Honestly, about the only difference between the Luxe X and the Luxe XR was that the XR came with replaceable coils and had some sparkles on the colored part of the body. They also give a recommended nicotine strength recommendation depending on which pod or coil you are using. That is obviously totally up to the user. In the third picture you can see that the Luxe X and Luxe XR are nearly identical in size while the Max is only slightly larger despite it not being all that much larger it has quite a bit higher battery capacity with the 2800mah high density battery.

The Max comes with two pods. One is labeled RDL on the end while the other is labeled DTL. The RDL pod comes with a .4 ohm GTX coil pre-installed that is rated for 26-32 watts while the DTL pod comes with a .2 ohm GTX coil rated for 45-60 watts. The DTL pod comes pre-installed in the Max and has a safety seal over it to prevent accidental firing before filling the pod. I don’t think I mentioned it yet but the Max is a button fire device only and does not offer an auto draw function.

In the second picture you can see the difference in the size of the two openings on the mouthpieces of each pod. The RDL pod is on top while the DTL is on bottom with a larger opening. One thing to keep in mind also is that the opening on the GTX coils gets smaller as the resistance of the coil increases so that will also affect the amount of airflow. So if you use a .8 ohm coil in the RDL pod then you are going to get less airflow than you would with a .2 ohm coil with the airflow control set the same.

In the third picture below you can see that the fill port plug is on the bottom just like it was on the earlier pods. The opening is large enough to fit most bottle types. The fill port plug on these are one of the easier ones I’ve used to open. Also it’s nice that the plug easily rotates out of the way to help with less mess while filling. One thing I noticed is if you just fill the pod to the point where you can no longer see the liquid level rising then you aren’t fully filling it. I found it best to tip the pod down on the side opposite of the plug and fill until I could see the liquid level rising while looking at the fill port opening. It holds quite a bit more liquid than I initially thought. I don’t fill with a syringe so really had no idea at first that I wasn’t completely filling the pod until I closed the plug and inserted it in the max. At this point I could see that it only looked like the pod was about half full.

When inserting a coil you need to align the flats of the coil with the openings on the top and bottom of the pod which you can see in the fourth picture along with the safety seal that I just mentioned a little while ago. It didn’t make a huge difference but it did seem like I got a little more airflow if I inserted the pod with the large hole on the bottom on the same side as the airflow slider.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

After having previously used the Luxe X and Luxe XR, I was very much looking forward to testing the Luxe XR Max. I have been a longtime fan of the GTX series of Vaporesso coils and have accumulated a fairly large stockpile of them over time. The Luxe XR Max did not disappoint. It manages to give you a much larger battery capacity without very much of an increase in size. I normally don’t care much for LED lights on a mod of pod mod but really did like how it was done on the Max and also that it gives a quick visual indication to the battery level without having to focus on the battery level indicator. One thing that really seemed odd to me was to not have the coil resistance displayed on the screen besides when you first insert a pod.

I personally never use the Smart function on any device because I tend to run my wattage lower than what the manufacturer thinks the optimal setting is. On the .4 ohm coil in the RDL pod I found my happy spot at 23 watts with the airflow slider mostly open. If I went to the suggested setting then the vapor was too warm for my tastes. I vaped for what seemed like forever on this setting using a mango mix and getting very good flavor production. The battery finally gave up at a little over 800 puffs with this setting. Some of those counted puffs could have been from when I accessed the wattage control or the menu but that was still a lot of puffs on one charge. The flavor production was still good at this point but decided to move on and try the DTL pod.

The DTL pod with .2 ohm coil was a very good DTL flavor producer with large amounts of vapor like what you would expect from a sub ohm tank. Once again the recommended setting was way too high for me. I used a 3mg lemon pound cake mix for this pod and was very happy with the flavor production since I have used this mix for a long time and for many review tests. I ended up with 42 watts in the end and was able to get a little over 400 puffs which is kind of what I expected after the results with the RDL pod. I recharged and went another 400 puffs using the same coil and even after 800 puffs the coil was still producing very good flavor.

So, overall I was very happy with how the Vaporesso Luxe XR Max performed and would definitely recommend it to others. The only thing I could think of that the Max didn’t have was a setting to lock out the fire button but you can still do the 5X presses of the fire button to turn it off for pocket carrying.

I have been using a Geek Vape Aegis with a Uwell Crown 4 tank (used to have a Crown 4 mod, but it died), .4 ohm @ 50 W, .3 mg Naked 100 Really Berry. I've had this thing for four years now and it's absolutely indestructible. I know this because I've dropped it at least a thousand times and it will not break or die.

But I'm pushing my luck - it's all I've got, no spare tank even. I would really like something smaller, but equivalent; this thing is heavy, with two batteries, and the coils can be hard to find sometimes. I tried an Innokin Coolfire Z60 and it was meh.

I have a problem with juice leaking and having to clean out the tube. Bleh. It's me, it's happened from the beginning (10 years ago!) with a Kanger EVOD, right on up. Nobody can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

If I have to stick with two batteries/heavy, I'll live. I was completely into this board and all the news in the beginning, but since I found my happy, I'm not up on things anymore. I could use some suggestions.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS


There is nothing special as far as packaging goes and there shouldn't be on a device that's disposable but it's nicely done and very colorful with a description of the flavor inside and the ability to vape 6,500 puffs. Inside is the Dragbar B6500 device that ships sealed in a plastic wrapper, you have to supply your own USB-C charge cord as one is not provided. I was sent 5 flavors to review out of the 20 that are offered for the Dragbar B6500 and they are shown in the picture below.

As I always do when reviewing a device with a internal battery was to charge it to make sure it's at full capacity before starting the review. The charge port is located on the bottom of the device and has a protective sticker across it and the airflow feed hole, the sticker is easily removed grasping the Red tip of it. When the device is charging a small LED light illuminate a Blue color that disappears when fully charged.











There is also a mouthpiece plug made of silicone that must be removed as well, this plug serves 2 purposes, the first being a safety one just like the sticker on the charge port and airflow intake hole also located on the bottom, the 2nd purpose is to prevent evaporation of the 13ml of juice inside. You may want to reuse the plug when idle.





One very nice feature I noticed right away was the very soft TPU mouthpiece that is very comfortable to use, it fits your lips nicely with the softness being a added bonus.

► SMOK Morph 3 Mods; First Impressions:
The previous Morph-2 dual battery project dates back to the end of 2020; after almost three years the new Morph-3 version arrives. I honestly expected a noticeable change in style and shape, however this hasn't happened and I don't mind at all. So Morph-2 and Morph-3 could easily be confused with each other by the most inattentive. I remember loving Morph-2 from the very beginning and it is still in use within my office. Morph-2 and Morph-3 will continue to be my favorite rotation boxes. Morph-3 like Morph-2 maintains rather comfortable dimensions, it grips well and does not weigh too much, I like this too!



I received the "Black Gun Metal" color version for this test. The zinc alloy frame embraces the Mod protecting it from small bumps. The soft leather covers most of the surface and undoubtedly gives a comfortable touch, the excellent degree of finishes and the right leather/metal mix give this kit an elegant sporty look. On the back, the central crossbar in zinc alloy bears the vertical writing "Morph-3" which is mirror chromed.



On the sides of the Morph-3 there are a couple of handcrafted look seams and a small "Smok" heat branding. The fire button is housed on the side at the top, its shape is rectangular of excellent dimensions, the button is snappy and easy to click.





The front shows the 0.96" color display, the "+" and "-" adjustment keys and the USB-C charging socket, all housed within a large screen surrounded by the leather lining. Smok Morph- 3 is equipped with a new upgraded chipset which not only provides a very quick firing time of 0.001s.The chipset also provides two output modes (Power or TC) to support different styles of vaping.The 0.96" color screen is bright and easy to read, it shows all the useful information; selected mode, cell recharge level and percentage, Ohms, Volts, set power, lock/unlock symbol, total number of Puffs and duration of the last Puff.

• Five clicks on the Fire button to turn on/off the device
• Press the Fire key and the "+" button simultaneously to change the theme (Blue, Orange, Red, Purple, White, Green)
• Press the Fire key and the "-" button simultaneously to clear the Puff number
• Press the "+" and "-" buttons simultaneously to lock/unlock the screen.
• Press the Fire key 3 times to enter the menu setting interface. Press the "+" or "-" buttons to switch between "POWER", "TC-TI", "TC-NI" and "TC-SS".

• Power Off: The battery voltage is lower than 2.9V±0.1V.
• Battery Low: The battery voltage is lower than 3.2V±0.1V.
• Ohms Too Low: The resistance is less than 0.100±5% in WW mode or 0.05Ω±5% in TC mode.
• Ohms Too High: The resistance is higher than 2.50±5% in VW mode or 2.0Ω±5% in TC mode.
• No Atomizer: The atomizer has not been detected.
• Atomizer Short: A short circuit has been detected.
• PCBA Too Hot: PCBA temperature is too high and protection starts.
• Time Over: The vape time exceeds 8 consecutive seconds.



The door to access the compartment / batteries is located in the lower part of the Mod, on the door in addition to logos & brands you can see the sliding opening / closing mechanism and the writing "Designed By Smok".



Smok Morph-3 uses two 18650 batteries for operation. The compartment / battery door has a good opening / closing system that appears stable and quite safe. The positive and negative symbols are engraved on the inside of the door/battery, the same symbols are present on the bottom inside the mod.





The upper part of the Mod Morph-3 houses a cup with a 510 connection, the cup is fixed to the frame by 3 torx screws, the gold plated pin is spring loaded. The central position of the cup allows you to house tanks up to 31mm in diameter without protrusions.





► SMOK Morph 3 Mods; Final conclusions:
Smok wisely largely maintains the captivating design that characterized the previous version, the structure practically maintains the same materials as Morph-2 which have not changed, this plays a decisive role in the sensation of compactness and robustness that this powerful Mod instills in those who use it handle. The Fire button is precise, easy to reach even instinctively. The 6-color display is quite large, clear and legible. Smok Morph-3 can elegantly accommodate several medium / large tanks. The chipset manages the battery charge level well during the vape. The real-time power will automatically adapt to the current battery charge with an adequate output to lengthen the duration and maintain a stable delivery. Usually the power is released with a lightning-fast delivery in a fairly wide range of Watts. The internal card is not very rich, but it also offers NI-TI-SS TC modes. The levels of protection are numerous and appropriate for the user's safety. I didn't find any flaws in this kit, maybe I could recommend Smok to implement the excellent chipset with some additional functions such as; the intelligent detection of the coil in VW, the Bypass or the stealth mode. However, I absolutely do not see this as a necessary upgrade given the excellent quality / price ratio of SMOK Morph-3 Mod.
