Had to cut down some big old boxwood bushes, wife doesn't like them anymore. She wants to replace them with different bushes. Got them cut down to 6 inches or so with the reciprocating saw last week. Still had to remove the stumps so I started on that today.
They are a major pain to remove. They form a solid wood stump underground, about 8 inches across and 8 inches deep. From that they send out half a dozen big horizontal roots about 1" diameter or bigger. You have to locate and expose each one and cut it with the reciprocating saw. But the stump also sends out a thick mass of tiny roots which make it a major pain to dig out the soil and expose the big roots.
There are 4, got two of them out today and it took 3 hours. Too knackered to move now.
