I recently made my own version of the puck. Not the prettiest thing, but I'm using 4AAA batteries. It works just fine. Vapes great. Just wondering why I've never heard of anyone using regular store bought batteries. I've been vaping with them for 2 days now and it's been vaping great. what's wrong with normal batteries?

as soon as I have 15 posts I'll post a picture of my mod.

Whoops, the battery in your calculator is getting weak :)
The 4 alkaline batteries will vape like the dickens, until they won't.
Two days sounds pretty darn good, and still cheaper than cigarettes.
The real advantage of rechargeable batteries is the 500 charges (if you are lucky) you get.

If 4 AA rechargeable Nimh cells cost $12, and 4 AA alkaline cost $3. When will you break even?

4-aa rechargeable bats fully charged would give you about 4.2 volts preloaded. with load you get about 3v on a reg 510.
one 14500 bat is 4.2v fully charged and close to 3.5 under load.

one battery or 4, your choice.:D:vapor:
actually, even though nimh rechargeables are advertised as 1.2 volts, when fully charged they're closer to 1.6 volts each. So 4 fully charged ones will give you about 6.4 volts preloaded

Thank you for all your comments. I went ahead and purchased 6 more enercell AAA batteries from Radio Shack. This way I have 4 in use and 4 charging. All this battery stuff is still a bit confusing for me. I'm thinking of saving money to get a Chuck, which I see mentioned a lot in the forum, or a GLV-2 which Grimm gave a great review on. What kind of batteries do those use and should I stick to my homemade mod or give one of those a try?

mmmm, Lets just say you can get different results using different batteries and atties.

So to answer CDs post, of why more people dont usually use aa batteries to mod?
the trend seems to be going toward smaller mods, so using multible AAs instead of one 3.7v defeats that purpose.:2c:

The Puck is small. It uses AAAs, not AAs.

As far as using alkalines, yes they work but I only recommended them for emergency use do to the cost but they are great in a pinch. :)

There is no harm in using them though even though your voltage is quite a bit higher with them. The Puck runs about 4.6 to 4.7 volts under load with freshly charged NiMh AAAs. It stays pretty constant drop only tenths of volts until the batteries die completely, all at once. I usually can vape (and I vape pretty constantly) until the same time the next day that I put the batteries in (call it 24 hours with sleep).

I haven't tested the Puck using akalines under load so I probably need to do that to see what the voltage is dropping to. You most likely are not running 6 volts and probably more like 5 or less under load but I will check it out.

Akalines are great for emergency use but the cost will add up if that's all you use so you are smart to get the NiMhs but I would have bought them at a grocery store or hardware store since Radio Shack is very expensive normally for their batteries. You can get a set of brand name NiMh 4 AAAs at Lowes Home Improvement stores for less than 10 bucks.

All NiMhs that I have bought so far have worked out pretty good though.

As always, keep your cart wet and you will get better battery life. A wet cart only needs about 3 seconds button press but longer when it is drying out which will eat batteries faster.

Actually, my tests with the Puck on a Joye 510 atomizer (2.2 ohms) and 4 freshly charged AAA NiMh batteries I get a load voltage of 4.6 volts. It stays pretty consistant until the very end of the charge life which for me was about 12 hours. You may get more, you may get less depending on your vaping habits.

I've done a lot of testing before realeasing the Puck to this forum.

The Puck was designed for a 901 atomizer which is 3.0 to 3.2 ohms so you get better battery life but 11 to 12 hours for a 510 isn't anything to sneeze about. :)
