It's tiny. That and the modular form being able to use 1 or 2 batteries. And the price is amazing.

Me dunno, I felt the 2 battery setup looked unwieldy. Also, it's a DNA40 chip, which puts it in the disposable mod category for me (i.e., $50 or less). If I'm going to spend $100+ on a mod, I expect it to be firmware upgradeable, regardless of who makes the chip.

A kitchen knife or scizors will do the same job. Just remember to tin the ends.

Is the finish hard or soft? Shapeways describes it as flexible, is it?

A pic of whats included will be nice, I am curious if I need to get any parts to do a tidy setup. (heatshrink, plastidip)

Also curious about how the buttons look and feel.

From memory (maybe someone can confirm)... came with 2 black 16 gauge wires (they probably didn't pre-strip because i cut down and made smaller), 1 piece of heat shrink (I only used about 1/3 of it for the 510, but imagine you can use the rest on other wires). 1 L/P 510 (one of the best I've seen -- would be nice if offered in Black too (would look insane on the White, Blue, Red, Yellow -- but i guess gets covered anyway), 6 screws, 8 magnets (tiny suckas, but strong!), and 4 battery clips. And of course the enclosure and chip.

Only things needed -- soldering iron, solder, epoxy/glue,few small tools and an hour of your time, 2 batteries and a beer! ;)

Buttons feel real nice. Slight click, but so much easier than the sxmini to use -- especially to set the resistance with both the +/- at the same time. I'd say it is a hard finish?

Yeah, I know, I just don't like using that sort of thing when I want precision.

It's kind of hard with a bit of give on the larger sections.

I'll take pics later when I'm not working. It does come with a piece of heatshrink. The buttons are soft and kind of squishy but I can't really comment on them without the chip in there to provide feedback.

How does it feel in hand?
It feels really good but I'm not so sure about the material. It was rubbing off on the bamboo chopping block I was working on. The white residue rubs off easy enough and it doesn't leave a mark but the fact that it just rubs off is a bit of a concern for longevity.

Nice! We're timing you. 19 minutes so far, is it finished yet? ;)

Looks GREAT in that blue. Gotta have!:thumb:
I had to run to the post office for another issue (stupid eBay seller).

I got mine today as well but not sure if/when I will have the time to build it. Also the wire isn't pre stripped... and I don't think I have a stripper.
The wire is double insulated and thick stranded wire. Not the easiest to work with but I didn't have 16g silicone wire (12g, 20g and 24g only :/ )

It's kinda fuzzy, if it makes sense. Better than most printed material I've handled but still not like injection molded plastic. More pics coming.

I was worried about the buttons too. Once the board is screwed on, the buttons feel really nice and clicky. The fire button is almost as nice as my rDNA button.

Ok, here's some pics...

Looks NICE and very neat! Good job! :thumb:

I see you did what i did. Was too excited to play with it and post pics so saved the magnets for later on ;)

Trick i did was to epoxy 4 in the door 1st. then attached the other 4 to those. Color the exposed side with a sharpie (so you know which side to epoxy in to the enclosure. And carefully make sure you then epoxy in to the corresponding hole on the enclosure.

It's not like I had a lot of wiring to do

I shortened the jumper wire for the bottom contacts about 1/4" (8mm for those outside the US ;) ). I screwed up the 510 solder so it took a while to clean it up but I'm not a fan of the 510 connector. I like the VariTube 510 much better.

The mod is very well designed and the kit comes together nicely.

Is the 510 spring loaded? What do you like better about the VT 510?

I actually really liked this 510. great spring loaded action and fits everything I've thrown at it. Never saw the VT one though to compare. Is it also low profile? Guess you could use a standard one too, would just be raised over the base of the mod.

But, yes, its a little tricky to solder. If done messily, you will solder the center pin to the bushing. i used an alligator clip to hold it up, this giving much more room to work with as less margin for error. Also, drop a piece of solder inside before the white wire so it grabs and solders tight.

Yes, it's spring loaded but the spring is kinda weak compared to the VT 510. It's harder to solder because it's a small tube sticking out of a bushing. If you get solder on the bushing and tube, the center pin becomes fixed. That was my problem and I had a heck of a time cleaning it up so it would work again. I don't think there's a way to take it apart. The VT 510 has a base were you can make a stronger solder. It could also be that I installed 7 VT 510s and I'm used to them.
