So I've been vaping now for a little over two months. Quit smoking and started vaping that exact day. It's honestly the only way I think I would have been able to quit smoking and I'm very very thankful that I had vaping to turn to. Before I started vaping I knew a few people who did it but other than that I didn't know too much about it other than being a healthier alternative to smoking nasty cigarettes. Before I got to the point of "rock bottom" with smoking cigarettes I always heard weird things about people who vape. There seems to be this misconception of vapers being, fedora wearing, monster energy drinking, gaming, douche bags?? haha Those are legit things I have heard from people who, like me at the time, had no idea what vaping was. Anyway, I have now been pulled into this vaping world and honestly I love it. I have yet to meet anyone who is anything like the things I described above. I will say I do enjoy playing video games and I love me a nice cold Rock Star on a hot day. Vaping has changed my life in positive ways. I am very grateful for it and for this new community I have found. Although as I have found I feel like I get more judged now as a vaper than I ever was as a smoker. It's very annoying. People don't educate themselves and think they have all the answers. I get the "Oh you vape?" A lot more often than I ever got the "Oh you're a smoker?" I've also had many people tell me that I just switched out one vice for another. Or the "isn't that just the same thing anyway??" Have any of you had these experiences with vaping and how have you overcome it?

They are usually on the heads of the "friendzone feminazi hating dude bros" lol But that's another conversation for a different forum.

Two of my favorite people wear them: Keith Richards and Raymond Reddington.

Some times you get the occasional fake coughers that walk by lol. This cracks me up the most.
I've never got the fake cougher, but I have got the "I heard one of those blew up one a bus" and "you know they just found out those are even worse for you than cigarettes, right?"

I've had the same experience. One good friend, who never once complained about my smoking, hassles me about vaping. She seems to think that vaping is okay only to help someone quit smoking, and once said person quits the stinkies, said person should quit vaping. She was sitting next to me at an outdoor patio bar and freaked out when I pulled my three mods out of my purse and set them on the table. She said, "why do you need so many of those, won't one do?" Then she picked them up and said, "those are too heavy for you to carry more than one. When are you going to quit vaping?" When I told her I didn't have any plans to quit, she freaked out and said, "why not? vaping is bad for you!"

I started educating her about vaping and she listened for about one minute and said, "well, I still don't think it's healthy." To which I said, "how healthy do you want me to be?" I then began telling her about the four ingredients in e juice and about how relatively safe they are. I likened nicotine to caffine in terms of how harmful or safe it is and talked about how good nicotine can be for dementia and alzheimers and that really blew her away. The conversation moved on at that point, which was fine with me. Yet, I imagine the next time I see her again, she'll ask the same questions and issue the same warnings. Hopefully, over time, she will begin to accept the truth.

The best advice I can give you is not to be offended, and to provide factual information calmly. I think it's good to compare nicotine and caffene and to ask if they think you should quit caffene too, because the odds are very good your friend is a caffene user!

Good luck to you!

four ingredients in e juice
*Sigh* I wish people would stop saying this, already. "Natural and artificial flavors" is hardly a single ingredient. Unless you're just using unflavored with menthol or something, there are a lot more than "four ingredients" in your e-liquid.

You're right of course. The juices I vape have many different flavorings in them. Perhaps it would be more accurate if I said there are four categories of ingredients in ejuice. Still, I find people are favorably impressed when I break down for them the main ingredients and explain why each type of ingredient -- nic, vg, pg, and flavorings are pretty benign.

I mean if you want to call it "three ingredients, and food-grade flavorings" then I'm down with that, but I'm not gonna stop correcting people who insist on calling it "four ingredients."

That is just fine with me. I plan to continue doing the same thing I've been doing all along as well.

Vaping has come a long way and I do believe eventually it will be known as much much safer then cigs. When I started vaping it was even worse, besides the cig a like phase, I had a mech mod and cartomizer and people had no idea what it even was. I really had to hide it as much as possible because everyone thought I was doing (other stuff) or something. One instance , I was driving and at a stop light I took a vape, as I looked next to me I seen a mom , looking totally disgusted and telling her young daughter to look away....

I was sitting in my golf cart vaping at Walmart, and someone called the sheriff on me.
The sheriff showed up...turns out he was a vaper too. I schooled him on squonkers.

Back in the '50s, my dad got me a fedora to wear to church. Later in life I liked pong and asteroids. But never got into energy drinks. Can I still play the game?

Funny thing is, I just got done with a round of medical test and seeing "ologists" Cardiologist and Pulmonologist. (yeah, getting old and parts are wearing out) Fully expected my own doc and the specialists and ologists to tell me to give up vaping. Not a one did. As a matter of fact, the Pulmonolgist congratulated me for giving up smoking 5 years ago.

I'm far from one of the people you describe. But I try to be as stealth as possible in public, but for the people that do give any grief, I usually just tell them that big tobacco, aka their boogieman, is conning them with fake news because they don't want people to quit smoking, which vaping helps with immensely. I tell them that vaping has about the same health risks as drinking coffee, but not coffee *drinks*, because you can't get diabetes from vaping. I tell them that alcohol is far more dangerous from a public health perspective, but drinking in moderation is a perfectly acceptable activity for adults to engage in. I tell them that if they really care, they can look up the real scientific studies, especially coming out of the UK, and think for themselves rather than just believe what's pushed out by the people who have a vested interest in demonizing vaping... but people don't really care. They want to prop up their self image/esteem with righteous indignation at just about anything they don't understand... and understanding takes effort, which they don't need to exert, because they already know what's best for you and me.
