I decided to start this new thread that isn't about any specific rba or coil just specific to hemp used on them. Please post your results with hemp. I have not had to much luck with any natural wick in a vertical genesis style. My 0 nic DIY needs a lot of watts to give me TH and the vertical wicks don't last very long. In the Vivi, CE5, ODY, and A7s, the wicks are lasting up to two weeks at 10/12 watts on 2 ohms. Will set up the wick race soon and post it.:)
Started using hemp a couple of months ago. At first the hemp I tried was just so so. Now I have a 1mm and a 2mm that IMO are very good. I am continuing to try to get even better thru the provider that is co-operating. Many strands and twisted not braided seems to be the best for wicking. I now have hemp in Vivi Novas, CE5s, AGA2-t, Ody clone, and 3 A7s..
This is my source but in two weeks she should have a better assortment up to 4mm.

This is what it looks like. Has 12 twisted strands. The 2mm also has 12 larger twisted strands.

A recap of what I've learned so far about hemp wicks:

- avoid colored (dyed) hemp threads, best choice is natural (or white) color
- hemp wick preparation: 2 passes of boiling, some 20 mins each with water change in between
- boiled hemp still has a bit of odor, which (mostly?) goes away during the first minutes of vaping
- leave some room when making resistance coils, for the hemp to swell with e-liquid
- untwisting the ends of bigger-sized hemp threads helps wicking some

Corrections/additions very welcome!

My experience with hemp twine is much like BJ43's so far. The wicking in my Ody clones with hemp is good, but not as good as #1/0 cotton candle wick so far.

Here's a pic of the hemp twine I have posted in other threads. Apparently my 1mm hemptwine is not the same as the one that BJ43 received, but works great in a Vision Vivi Nova Mini/tank/stardusts:

I was gonna get SS because I read it's supposed to be the healthiest. But now I found this new thread where someone's payng $200 a pop for lab tests about chemicals from the SS and it;s suggesting SS's pretty bad. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-stainless-steel-mesh-oxide-discussion-4.html

Makes sense to me that inhailing pure organic hemp/cotton/bamboo is better than SS, so I'm between those 3 for now.

I stick with bottom coil atomizers, so I don't need it to wick upwards so good. I just hope it wicks as good as cotton and I assume bamboo/hemp won't burn as easily as cotton.

I double checked the item description and got my email reply about these hemps. They have nothing at all added to them, it's just pure hemp when titled as undyed/unwaxed. Cheap, but shipping's about $6.

They're organic too, so no need to boil off pesticide, but boiling might remove a hempy taste and loosen fibers to wick better.

Bought 10 yards of the 1mm natural hemp off eBay. Boiled once for about 10 minutes. The hemp definitely has a flavor at first. Takes a little longer than cvs rolled cotton for the flavor to go away. So far I still prefer rolled cotton. Hemp seems to mute the flavor more. Will report back after a few more days of vaping.

Are there any obvious benefits of hemp compared to cotton? Does it have better scorch resistance? Been using cotton pretty much constantly for a year now and get on with it well. Never had much luck with SS and After seeing that thread I'm kinda glad! Is it worth getting some to have a play with? If I'm careful, a cotton wick will last me around a week.

The biggest advantage is better scorch resistance especially if like me you need higher watts to get a TH with 0 nic DIY juices.
I don't answer question about flavor, too subjective. IMO flavor is different on every setup I have ever made, so I just get accustomed to the new flavor after a few ml and enjoy. Makes life much easier than trying to duplicate the flavor on each new setup.

I agree that hemp outlasts cotton but I don't taste the sweet in my juices with hemp like I do with cotton and it seems to take longer for the earthy/ropey taste to go away but because it lasts longer that's what I've been using lately.

Agree. My hemp use is limited to 1 setup and I've been using a Pear favor. While it wicks/vapes fine - the flavor just doesn't come through. I'll give it another tank and if no improvement, try some bakky flavors.

For me the hemp flavor does recede, but it takes me the longest of any of the 'organics.' Not sure why. On the flip side the wicks last much longer.

So long as I don't touch the gf, mistress, etc or wear gloves seems bamboo and cotton are vaping full throttle for me from installation....usually lol
