Yes, I would track the recipes steeping by recipe name and date mixed.
Recipe name in green, when would it change back to normal color and if you had the same recipe steeping twice, would it show green for done if one is done and the other isn't? I think the color change could get confusing.

Hi HR,

I have a few suggestions/requests (as if you don't get enough of them ;-) on how to improve this already astonishing program - at least in my opinion.

1) It would be nice if the beeping was suppressed in both notes areas (recipe and ingredients) - like when you're holding down the cursor keys to get to the top or bottom.

2) In the main recipe window, it would be nice if the upper-left "recipes" selection drop-down box would get wider just like the ingredients do when widening the window.. It can be hard to determine various version of recipes, if the name is somewhat long.

3) It would also be nice if there was more room for the notes in the Ingredient window.. At least from what I'm seeing on this machine, there is a lot of wasted space at the bottom that could accommodate a larger notes area.
And in the same token, it might be useful if one could resize the "notes/results/warnings" section in the main recipe window. I know about the undocking of the notes, but it would be nice if one didn't have to do that to have a somewhat bigger notes area.

4a) It would be nice if within the "modify existing recipe", there were buttons - like on the right side of each ingredient, for instance - to adjust the current inventory of individual ingredients. Often times all I care about is how much of one single ingredient I should add - regardless of throwing off other percentages.
4b) Also within that window, it would be great if there was an option to just overwrite the current recipe.

5) There is a crash happenig - that seems to present itself when the option 'Display ingredients by category' is checked. It seems to happen when selecting ingredients, and you have to 'go up one level', perhaps more than once... And on that note, it would be nice if there was an "All Ingredients" option, to help avoid having to search in each set category..

And.. Thanks for making this program! I still can't believe something like this even exists! =)

EDIT: Oops! Sorry, I didn't see that we were in the middle of a 'reverse' suggestions time.. But I couldn't find a way to delete this.

This program is beyond amazing and I can't thank you enough for it. I am just a week or so in playing around with it and I have come across one issue that I am having as well as one ** so far ** suggestion.

1. ISSUE: I open *VIEW* >> *SHOPPING LIST* and then try to add ingredients to my shopping list. I chose the ingredient from the list and am then told it is already in my shopping list, but I do not see anything at all in the list when I open it. This has happened with all ingredients I have tried from Nicotine, Flavour, PG, VG, etc. Is there a way to "reset" the shopping list to ensure there is actually nothing in it until I personally add something?

2. SUGGESTION: When I open the *CURRENT INVENTORY* button I am presented with a window that has another button that lets me show inventory > 0ml or show all inventory. Maybe this could be a dropdown instead with those 2 options plus a show 0ml inventory. Afterwards, maybe this same feature could be added to the *EDIT* >> *INGREDIENT EDITOR* window as well as I would benefit from that greatly as may others.

Did I say yet just how amazing this program is? Excellent Work!

As far as the current questions on steeping..

Have a "steeping days" entry within the recipe, right near the 'last made' date.
Any items still within that steeping time frame, between what is set in 'last made' and 'steep days', would show in green within the "recipes" drop-down.

Also, maybe have an item in the 'filter recipes by' - one that would say "within days", and another that would say "within weeks" -- and when selected a number-entry box would show up, that shows the last entry by default, that would allow you to enter a number. ... And maybe another that states "still steeping".

Done and will be available in the next version.
2) In the main recipe window, it would be nice if the upper-left "recipes" selection drop-down box would get wider just like the ingredients do when widening the window.. It can be hard to determine various version of recipes, if the name is somewhat long.
Done and will be available in the next version.
3) It would also be nice if there was more room for the notes in the Ingredient window.. At least from what I'm seeing on this machine, there is a lot of wasted space at the bottom that could accommodate a larger notes area.
Actually the space appeared to be wasted but when you click the "Save" button you will see a message "Ingredient updated" for a short period of time in this area. I did make a change to use some of that space and to also make the notes are wider. Next version
And in the same token, it might be useful if one could resize the "notes/results/warnings" section in the main recipe window. I know about the undocking of the notes, but it would be nice if one didn't have to do that to have a somewhat bigger notes area.
I'm not sure how to tackle this one, let me give some thought to it.
You referenced inventory but I am guessing that you would like to enter the number of ml's that you want to add to the ingredient rather than update the percentage? Enter the ml's to add and calculate the percentage based on the amount entered?
5) There is a crash happenig - that seems to present itself when the option 'Display ingredients by category' is checked. It seems to happen when selecting ingredients, and you have to 'go up one level', perhaps more than once... And on that note, it would be nice if there was an "All Ingredients" option, to help avoid having to search in each set category..
Several months back another user was having the issue that you described. I have tried over and over again to replicate this and I cannot make it happen and therefore I can't figure out how to resolve it. I will continue to try to make this happen but...

I see the bug and I am working on it. You will notice that if you exit the view ingredient window and go back into it the ingredient was actually added to the shopping list. There is something going on and I am investigating.

Did you know that when you "Show all inventory" that you can click on the column title "Remaining" and it will sort the list? Click again and it will sort in reverse order. When sorted in ascending order all of the 0 inventory items are listed at the top.

Thanks so much for the quick response. :)
For me this happened the very first time I went into the shopping list. I have never added anything to it before and this being my first time opening it would have thought it to be empty. Must have to do with this bug. I tried clearing the list and then exiting and opening it again and it shows empty but still the same issue occurs.

Yes, I do see that I can "sort" the list in that manner. I guess the part that really appeals to me about the button is that it "removes" everything that doesn't pertain to your choice. For me this just enables a sure fire mistake avoidance of possibly editing the wrong ingredient. I use this program on a rather small touch screen so, in this sense, the extra button is very helpful.

Version 7.0.2.3 is available. Changes include:
1. Added an "Unassigned" value to the "Recipe category" dropdown. This will filter and only show recipes that have not been assigned to a category.
2. When using the arrow keys in the notes area of the recipe window and the ingredient window, the window would beep when you tried to move the cursor beyond the area of the entered text. The beeping was turned off.
3. The recipe dropdown on the main window will now auto-size when the window is made wider.
4. The notes area on the ingredient window was made wider and a little taller.
5. When viewing the shopping list and adding ingredients an erroneous message was being displayed stating that the ingredient was already in the shopping list. Fixed.

(Within "Modify Existing Recipe")
No, I mean a button to reduce inventory of one particular item (or several) according to what has been set for that item when pressed. i.e. If currently says 'add 1.47ml', then when clicked, it would reduce inventory of that item by 1.47ml.

And then an option to save current percentages to the current recipe - overwriting what's there already - as opposed to having to save it as a separate recipe every time. (I have a 'shorthand' method of writing the date, ingredients & amounts of what's being made into the notes area.. So I can keep track of what's been tried/added as the recipe progresses.)

Several months back another user was having the issue that you described. I have tried over and over again to replicate this and I cannot make it happen and therefore I can't figure out how to resolve it. I will continue to try to make this happen but...

Yeah, I haven't pinned it down of precisely the steps to trigger it yet either. :) All I know so far is that it seems to involve traversing categories, and then as soon as I pick an item it'll happen. Also, it seems to happen most often right after clicking 'new recipe', then "Add Ingredient". Maybe some type of race condition?? dunno..

Hoggy, I have a similar process of writing changes in the notes section. I just click on the save icon and it overwrites the recipe with the current percentages. I don't save it as a separate recipe unless I'm morphing into something else. If I forget to save and go to do something else it asks if I want to close without saving my changes. I don't know why this doesn't work for you. Strange.

Good luck figuring out the trigger for your problem.

I am slightly confused at the moment.
I added my ingredients and the cost (including taxes) then I added the amount in ml and it output what I thought was the right amount of cost per ml.

However when I add the items on my shopping list it tells me what the cost will be and the amounts. The cost seems to be incorrect.

Example:

Nicotine: 48MG 50/50 1L (1000ml) = $90.40 total cost *shows $90.00 in shopping list*
Nicotine: 100MG 50/50 1L (1000ml) = $146.90 total cost *shows $150.00 in shopping list*

I don't mind variations myself as the cost may be different when I get to the supplier anyways, but I just wanted to point this out and see if it was an issue or anything.

Otherwise, the old shopping list problem has vanished and is working perfectly.

Once again, I appreciate all your hard work on this program. Such dedication and such great code! Many Thanks!!!

I believe this is because it is figuring the cost in the shopping list from the cost per ml which is rounded to the nearest cent.
On your 100mg the cost per 1000ml is $146.90 = $0.1469 per ml - rounded to 0.15 X 1000 = $150.00

ETA - Speaking of rounding, on the grams to add display in the recipe I would prefer it was rounded to two decimal places instead of three. I doubt anyone is using a scale that reads to thousands of a gram. Just a suggestion.

I'm taking about from within the "Modify Existing Recipe" window. There's only a 'save as' option there.

Anyhow.. Thanks a lot Hotrod! I love how you always respond to user input so quickly.

He's said in the past that that's because he wants to give people the option of deciding how much to add - either slightly under or slightly over... Same reason for one decimal place with drops.
However, I DO have a milligram scale I'm thinking of using... To add just the flavoring ingredients - it has a weight limit of 50g. Although most of my bottles don't have droppers anyways, so I'd still be using my set of glass syringes no matter how I measure.

(I'm up to page 48, on previous posts :) )

You are correct, it is a rounding issue. I am going to look into it.

The reason that I show grams to the thousands is for a similar reason, rounding. I track the weight down to several decimal digits and but only display the 3 digits. Rather than telling you to add 0 for a value of 0.004, I would rather show you the 0.004 and let you decide if you want to add that last drop or not. Same with a value of 0.005, rather than telling you to add 0.01 I would rather you decide on that next drop.

I am looking for some ideas and thoughts about a new feature that I am considering but before I begin the development I would like some feedback. The feature is related to tracking the “steep time” of a newly made recipe.

Here are my thoughts:
  1. Add a new field on the recipe window where you input the number of days of steeping that is needed for the recipe.

  2. When the “Make recipe” button is clicked I would begin tracking this recipe. I would track the recipe by the recipes name along with date that you clicked the “Make recipe” button.

  3. Now for the question; how to display the recipes being tracked?
    • Maybe add a “View->Steeping recipes” option. When selected a window will open showing all recipes being steeped.

    • The window would show the recipe name, the date it was made, the number of days to steep (at the time the recipe was made) and the number of days remaining until the steeping is complete.

    • There would be a delete button associated with each entry that would allow you to delete the recipe from the list. The recipe would remain in the list until deleted.
Thoughts or suggestions?

This is an interesting feature.
1) Would it be better to use the ending date vs the number of days to steep. If it is left blank the the feature is turned off for that receipe.

2) If I understand this correctly, the entry would look something like this:
"Strawberry Kiwi" + "Last Made Date" + "days to steep" + "Days remaining"
If that is correct, then if I were to make the above receipe today and then make it again tomorrow. Each entry would be discreet because the "Last Made Date" would be a seperate value. and should not effect the prior entry. Is that correct?

3) I think that the option to delete each individual entry is a good idea. It requires an action of the user to be removed. If it were to automatically drop off, it could be forgotten.

I also think an option in Defaults to activate this feature should be added.

I personally like having the extra data and being able to decide for myself whether to add, or not add, the last drop. I am not a fan of reducing the weight resolution to only 2 decimal places.

Yep, same here. Not to mention that if I DO start dipping my toes into the measure-by-weight waters, I'd be starting with a milligram scale since I already have one. Flavors only though, due to 50g limit. I actually made 1 measurement with it so far, that hit the desired .077g mark to a T! =)

you can get a 500g .01 accurate scale on amazon for 15 - 25 bucks

I have this one and it works great once calibrated (needed a 500g weight) and no issues for me with 180 second auto shut off - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B4KX6JQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

most recommend this since it has ac adapter to eliminate auto shut off - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product...fl_title_17?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1DVPD9Q368DLM

note that a 250ml glass amber bottle will take up more than half that 500g capacity
