my 23g wire came in this evening. I figured out I wanted exactly 5.25 wraps on the 2.2mm bit and everything tight (i.e. no sloppy, unplanned legs). Turned out to be reminiscent of the good old days . . . in that, although they may look plain and simple, these here coils took quite a bit of doing. Nailed the shape and location I wanted. Missed the resistance again by about 7-8 thousandths of an ohm. I was shooting for .17

Here's the 22g coil I pulled out next to the 23g in the atty. Same resistance, less wire. Less mass to heat, quicker kick time and better battery life (I think . . .. I'll see).

Here's what it took to put 5.25 wraps of 23g into the atty . . .

OK, so on the coil: funny thing. Hard to explain, but that last build kin'a vaped like it took to make it. I swear I could feel the electricity hesitating at the crooks. It vaped . . .. . "complicated". So, I took a chance on 2mm ID, which allowed me to just do a straight-up 5 3/4 wrap (still right around .162Ω tho). Anyhoo, the cotton is keeping up just fine at 2mm ID on the 23g wire, and I'm a happy camper. Great vape!

So, now, these↓ pics here may not look like pictures of magnets . . . but, believe me when I tell you, these here are magnet pics. I'll start prepping the mags tonight and insert them into SFM's "inbox" tomorrow to see if there's any attraction ( . .. . errrmm . . I mean install them in the mods tomorrow).

That is the last piece of that particular looking chunk of Seward Park Maple Tree. More precisely, I've got more of that general feel; but it doesn't have the grey splootches or the thin black spalt lines. I've got some other stuff that is going to be ready soon which is pretty character-ridden. I've had the SPMap in the shop for ~8yrs? now, in large chunks. I just cut up another of those larger chunks into coupla'mod size strips in March, and I'm thinking they should have done that last little bit of acclimating (almost-finish-size shop-drying) by ~~~ end of summer here. That one (the upcoming) is spalted; but still firm and strong.
