I am planning to build my first coil. Searching through the forum I think that 0.8Ω microcoil might be a sweet spot. I have a resistance meter and I am planning to use Samsung INR 18650 20R 2000 (good for 22A) batteries so I should be safe. Even if I create a short putting the atty on the resistance meter I'll see that something is wrong.
It will be a single micro coil Kanthal - cotton build. I am planning to use d.03 Kanthal (19.499 Ohm/m ).
Do you have anything to discourage or encurage me ?

For a first try at coiling, I would suggest a bit higher, 1.5Ω - 1.8Ω, see how it vapes for you.
Then try lower and / or higher see what you like.

I've experimented with 0.5Ω to 5.0Ω coils and I prefer about a 1.5Ω to 2.0Ω YMMV. It can depend on your juice, topper, air flow, size of firing chamber, wicks, juice flow, how hot you like your vapor, etc... all will affect your vape. I have found my resistance range works very well with not only my mech mods, but my VV mods and also VW kicked mods....:vapor:

It all depends on what kind of air flow you have.

I prefer 0.6 in my kayfun/R91 devices. I think it gives the densest vapor, with the best flavor, while only being a mildly warm vape.

If your building on an RDA, then who knows. The IGO-W as an example comes with the tiniest little pin holes for air holes. Nothing under 1.8 ohms will taste very good. You can of course drill them out, which is what I have always done. If your wanting to try 0.8 ohms, I would recommend air holes at 5/64 inch. The lower in resistance you go, the more air flow you need in order to keep the coils cool, and reduce the likelihood of acrid tastes.

To give you an idea,

I run my protanks at 1.6 ohms with 1/16th inch air flow.

I run my kayfun and R91 at 0.6 ohms with the standard air flow on the device.

I run my RDAs at 0.08 - 0.16 ohms with total air flow equivalent to 5/32 inch air holes.

Ohms are something very subjective depending on your mod and atty. I like the .6 dual on a wide open IGO-M on the Big Nasty. I use a .3 on my Stingray with a 23g kanthal single coil, if I switch devices I am in a different category. Use your mod as a reference to what it can put out, I am sure you know your batteries if you are building. Remember there is voltage drop on every mechanical mod and very few VV or VW mods allow a .8 resistance, than take the atty you are on into consideration as far as airflow and build structure. You will build about 30 coils in a week just tinkering until you find your sweet spot. What I did was I built my first coil, checked it on the ohms reader, determined it was safe with my battery, vaped it and pulled it off and repeated until I became a cloud junky.

All my coils start out over 2 ohms but during usage my vamo will tell me that I got a 1.1 or maybe a 0.7 ohm coil sometimes because something is touching somewhere.

For a FIRST coil, why not start somewhere more typical like 1.5 to 2 ohm.
