A generally good news day:

1) Both OR bills die in committee - that means HB4073 (simple minor ban, which CASAA supported), and HB4115 (vaping=smoking, desired by ANTZ).

2) OH HB 144 simple minor ban (endorsed by CASAA) passes senate unanimously, passed house yesterday - ANTZ are not amused.

3) Clarified minor ban in CO ready for st. sen (out of committee).

4) Miami FL moves towards minor ban (all-but-passed).

The bad news: Sante Fe NM passes a vaping=smoking indoor and outdoor (25 feet from doorway) vaping ban (i.e. defines vaping as smoking). Cook Co. to ban vape shops w/i 500 ft. of schools and rec. areas (if history is any guide, these distance prohibitions will gradually increase - article in this space discussed issue in CA just last week).

Other news - NYC museum sponsors event on vaping; flap over French guest at state dinner w/ PV; Dr. Siegal publishes diatribe on tobacco control industry (see separate post).

Coverage: Taiwan, US States: NY, FL, PA, OH, KY, IL, TX, CO, NM, OR, CA

[OR's SB4115 which would've extended the state clean air act to cover vaping has died in committee. Apparently so has the simple minor ban, HB4073 - but it's not clear why. (ANTZ opposition?). Then moves on to "concerns about minors" (due to flavors) and interviews Consumer Reports spokeswoman w/o identifying her, who helpfully advises viewers not to use vaping as a cessation tool. Surprisingly, this is only the third time I've seen the C-U junk propagated.]
