I just finished reading an article in Business Insider claiming that about 10% of US adults now vape.
This was according to the online Reuters/Ipsos poll of 5,679 Americans conducted between May 19 and June 4 2015.

This appears to be almost four times as high as a US government estimate from 2013 claiming that 2.6% of adults use e-cigarettes.

Age distribution is also interesting. About 15% of poll participants under the age of 40 now vape.

It didn't surprise me that almost 70% of current users started in the past year alone, but it was a bit of a surprise that about three quarters of them also smoke cigarettes (according to the poll).

10%? If 10% are around my neck of the woods most are hiding in the closet.

LOL, it's different here in Toronto. I'd say that among kids below 30 years of age, it's a rare sight to see an analog smoker, but you see a lot of vapers. Generally among smokers I think 10% (of using vaporizers instead of analogs) is about right.

The little burg that I live in had one of the first B&Ms in the country. So vaping was well established here well before it became "trendy".

Today there are more vape shops than smoke shops here, and I see at least as many (if not more) vapers than smokers when out & about.

I did have to chuckle tho' when I saw someone with a PV in one hand & a cigarette in the other.

All the talk of banning ecigs has caused a massive surge in ecig users?
The first time I saw that "new" explicit lyrics sticker back in '86 I bought the album having never heard of the band before. guessing this is the same mentality

Probably that has a lot to do with the cost of smokes in Canada - must be around CAD 14 or 15 now. They were already CAD12 when I was there last in 2008. But then I did notice too that very few Canadians actually smoke, whether they vape or not.

Most heavy smokers I know go to Indian reserves to buy their smokes and they're getting them for about 80 cents a pack of 20, which is dirty cheap. It's cheaper than vaping and that's what's holding many of them back.

But generally (if you're not a heavy smoker) you're right about the cost of smoking in Canada. The brand I used to buy was CAD $13-$15 for the pack of 20 at the store. That's about USD 12 per pack, or 60 cents per smoke. No wonder people look for alternatives.

I HIGHLY doubt that number is accurate... WebMD and the 2013 CDC numbers show that 20% (roughly) of Americans smoke some in one form or another. If 10% vape that would be 50% of the smokers switched or dual vape. This number is not accurate at all. If anything I would put a slight modifier and say that 10% of SMOKERS vape. This would be a bit more accurate.

21% of men 19% of women... (2013 numbers again) 316.13 million Americans.
63.226 M Americans smoke. 10% of those would be vapors.... 6.3 million I think that would be more accurate.
