Interesting. Of course, the fact that these statistics say three quarters of vapers are dual users may serve as a justification for saying vaping does not make people quit smoking and most will resume smoking only. Which is also strange because if people don't get hooked on ecigs, then why should anybody worry about ecigs?

We get more people here voting for the best bakery/dessert/tobacco flavors of the year than they can get in that poll. So, how accurate can their assumptions about vaping be?

It's the same type of poll they use to sway voters choice of political 'flys'. So, accuracy is not critical.

"Think of the children! Think of the children".... as they roll their eyes and throw up their arms in pseudo hysterics.

Except I haven't seen any kids take up vaping. Smoking is a right of passage which vaping is not. When they want to convince themselves they are adults, young people will smoke not vape. The demographics of that survey would be interesting.

Outside of the vape stores, in the wild I would guess about 1% of adults and maybe 10% of nicotine users vape.

I live in so cal,I shop in Palm Springs.
Vaping is huge here.
The sub ohm craze gained traction in California.
10% of all adults would mean I should see a vape every now and then, I fact it means 1 in 10 are vapers.

Even here I can't find 1 in 10 that even know what an e-cig actually is.

" 5,679 Americans" the current population is 318.9 million... I know dick about stats and polls, but couldn't they have at least gotten 10,000?

I've been vaping since Feb 2015, I've seen ONE vapor in public, and she was driving behind me. I used to travel all over CT, MA, and RI for work.

I don't see too many vapers around here, but there must be a lot, there are so many shops. :D The other day, as we drove into the parking lot of a little strip mall, I was able to see some vaping from a distance... and I knew they were vapers, even though I wasn't close enough to see any hardware... because there was a woman a few shops up, smoking... I saw her little bit of smoke... then 3 shops down, I saw this MASSIVE cloud... I said to my husband, "there's some vaping going on down there." He asked me how I could tell... I said "just look at the difference in what they're exhaling, compared to that lady with the cigarette." He laughed his .... off. :D

I just finished reading an article in Business Insider claiming that about 10% of US adults now vape.
This was according to the online Reuters/Ipsos poll of 5,679 Americans conducted between May 19 and June 4 2015.

This appears to be almost four times as high as a US government estimate from 2013 claiming that 2.6% of adults use e-cigarettes.

Age distribution is also interesting. About 15% of poll participants under the age of 40 now vape.

It didn't surprise me that almost 70% of current users started in the past year alone, but it was a bit of a surprise that about three quarters of them also smoke cigarettes (according to the poll).

It's not surprising;
basically by this year, vape gear has reached the stage where most smokers actually have heard of them, and many have tried.

What the numbers tell me is that about 20 to 30% of smokers have converted to vape, and the other 80-70% have tried or are somewhere in between just trying it out and converting completely.

Everyone I know at work who vapes is a dual user. They vape to get around the smoking ban on the property...

I lent out a setup of mine to a friend; when I see him and ask, he says he uses it at home;
I lent him an m16 sentinel with extra tube for a kick, with a 30mm magma, and 2 efest batts, and a charger, and a 50ml bottle of my semihomemade mix
Haven't reached the point of showing him to wrap a coil.

For him and many people, it's just so simple to light a cigarette compared to having to know so much stuff and get some many items to make vaping work.

Most heavy smokers I know go to Indian reserves to buy their smokes and they're getting them for about 80 cents a pack of 20, which is dirty cheap. It's cheaper than vaping and that's what's holding many of them back.
Umm what reservations sell them for that cheap?!?!? In Arizona they sell them for $60+ a carton

It didn't surprise me that almost 70% of current users started in the past year alone, but it was a bit of a surprise that about three quarters of them also smoke cigarettes (according to the poll).

I was using cigalikes on and off for 3 years while I still smoked. And still smoking a few cigs after I got an Evod. I know some folks quit immediately after they have their first vape, but a lot don't. It doesn't surprise me that a high % are doing both, especially if so many have started recently.

It must be a lot easier to get started lately. Up until earlier this year I didn't know of any vape shops. I learned later that there had been a few around town for a while but I didn't know about them. The only place I could even get cigalikes was a stall at the local mall, when that closed down I looked for them on the internet. Then someone told my wife about the Evod's which were being sold at a local head shop, so I took a trip down there and picked a couple up. Now there are so many vape shops that everyone must know where to find one.

Things have been changing quickly.
