How can you really tell when a battery is getting ready to die?

From what I've read here and there, I seem to be fortunate in that I can count my deaths still only on one hand. But I'd like to know if there are signs I should be looking out for, besides those listed below which I have first hand knowledge of. What are some of your experiences?

1) Holds charge for lesser and lesser and finally none time; then one day - dead.

2) Starts to act funny while charging, ie: not blinking, or LED staying on, or LED never coming on, or light is green when it should be red (on charger); then one day - dead.

3) Car tire rolling over it; dead.

4) Keeps getting weaker (I have two of these currently).

I always know when I charge it and it takes 1/2 hour to charge and lasts 10 minets with a carto..it's on a respirator and ready to meet the big charger in the sky.
When it blinks and blinks for no reason..I take that as a sign..maybe a call for Snow dragon to help!
Don't count a battery down and out when accidents happen..like a car wheel. Sometimes they will surprise you!:p

Oh I tried. It looked as if it was only sleeping too, but alas, it was dead. But the good news is that it got to become a donor - the cart survived, and lives on today in a lucky recipient.

Man I miss North Beach Pizza, Kamakazees at Savoy Tavoli, Dungeness Crab, Burgers at Anchor Steam or getting plowed at the Boathouse at Lake Merced! :(

It's always a good idea to make sure your batteries and recharger(s) are clean. You have already outlined the signs which are simple and easy to dectect, reduced performance time. I don't have a video of cleaning your wall charger but it is easy. Put a dab of alcohol on a Q-tip, unplug the recharger, use a small flashlight, and clean off the connector...2 seconds is all it takes.

Are we talking Auto or Manual Batteries?

I only ask because Auto batteries on ocassion have charging logic issues arise. What does that mean? Well, the battery recharger will show that battery is fully charged when in reality it is not. To test for this screw the battery into the recharger when it show fully charged, remove it, then reconnect it and see if goes back into charge mode. Continue this process until the battery recharger indicator light stays green after you reconnect the battery.

If you have an Auto Battery that is doing this you may notice that it is fully charged in an hour or less. Then it only lasts for about 20-25 minutes.......is this what you are experiencing?

The only thing that hasn't been mentioned is cut-off time being half of what they should be. If your battery vapes for 3-4 seconds then cuts-off....it's time to make a small coffin for it. I regularly remove the Ash Cap and battery Housing Tube then toss the rest.

Hope this helps....
