There's two schools of thought:

1- tough it out
2- have an analog

A lot of people don't make the switch instantaneously, they gradually progress from part-time vaping and part-time smoking to eventually full-time vaping. There is nothing wrong with this. When I first switched over completely, I did have a few cravings in the beginning and I just vaped my way through them at my normal nic level. It was hard, but eventually the cravings passed.

Whichever methodology works best for you is the one you should follow. The only thing I can really do for you is offer you sympathy for your cravings and support in whichever action you take :)

Nothing is wrong with you. When I first started vaping I would have days like that. Having a husband who still smokes means I still have analogs in the house. There were a few times when I would sneak a cigarette to relieve stress. The funny thing is I discovered the longer I vaped, the less appealing a cigarette would taste. Eventually, I stopped craving cigarettes.

My advice is to stick with vaping. If you find you lose the fight to resist a cigarette every now and then, don't kick yourself. Smoking is an extremely hard habit to break.

I'm just going to have to tough it out. I know if I buy a pack I will smoke the while thing that same day. Then tell myself I'll start back on the e-cig tomorrow, but then I talk myself into starting the next day, then the next day, then the next day till I wake up coughing up a long with a swollen punching bag at the back of my mouth. I don't want to go back. I can't! 11 days is great! And I don't want to have to start from square one. I rooms a bottle of RY4 that I ordered about a month and a half ago and never used, maybe I just needed a change in flavor. But we will see how it goes. :(

My plan all along has been to primarily vape but use an analog here and there. I've been really stressed, so I decided to grab an analog this evening. GAH! I have never tasted anything worse. It tasted like rubber bands and motor oil. I couldn't take more than a few drags. I'm around the same time frame as you, so this might be what you have to look forward to if you give in to your craving.

Just thought it may be helpful for you to know that it really isn't better lol.

I say just smoke an analog. Then you'll see how bad they really are. No throat hit, terrible taste :) When I help people get started with vaping I always tell then if you feel like you need to smoke a real cigarette then smoke one. Don't equate vaping with quitting smoking, which most people view as difficult and sucky, but as a positive in that it is more enjoyable than smoking. All the added health benefits are just gravy.

I disagree. I'm a pack to a pack and a half newport smoker. You do get throat hit and a lot of it and the menthol tones down the tobacco taste. I hate any regular cigarette, they make me sick. But the juices are great. I just have to fight it. I've done this before with e-cigs which is why I jump back and fourth from these forums from the past 3 yrs. Never went more than 3 days before bouncing back and fourth.. 12 days are an accomplishment. No backing down... For now?

EDIT.. NOT AGREE, *DISAGREE

Nothing wrong with you. You can tough it out or just try a cigarette to work out the craving.

Some people have to quit smoking cold turkey and never light up again in order to stay off the cigarettes. Others can sneak in a few guilty-pleasure smokes now and then without resuming the habit. If you cheat, don't beat yourself up about it. Just go right back to vaping

Smelling that smoke from others can be maddening until you have been off cigarettes a long time, even then smelling second-hand smoke can be a big problem.

In my experience that sneaked cigarette doesn't taste that good and I'm happy to go back to vaping.

Not to sound mean but welcome to the wonderful world of Government Sponsored Addiction. I was told, by the Vets, the first 10- 14 days would be tough and sure enough they were right. Right from the get go I had a plan. I ordered 24 and 36 Nic juice and found, in the beginning, I needed the 36. I also decided I would stay away from smokers as much as possible. Cancelled several outings with friends but they understood and in fact many are now vaping. If you have to go back to analogs so be it...it's not a race nor a competition but a means to having quality of life. I'm hoping you hang in there cuz there is a Pot of Gold at the end of the Rainbow.
Good luck and I'm glad you opened up to us as many get the impression quitting analogs by way of vaping is easy. Please keep in touch, Vapoor.

Teeto:

Ecigs are not always the answer for ALL smokers.
Although the alternative works for some of us (and even begining with substituting just the ecig can be a long and tough road to conquer), it is not for all of us.

IMO, it either can pass as a satisfying alternative (with flying colors where smokers PREFER vape to analogs or they can "deal'' with completly using ONLY ecigs for a long-term solution) or some don't like them at all.

Some people use both analogs and ecigs to reduce the amount they smoke. Which is fine and is a step in the right direction.

Anyone stopping tobacco smoking, regardless of whether they choose to substitute ecigs for their old habit, has a tough time.

Teeto – I feel your pain……I had the same cravings 3-4 weeks after quitting the analogs. IMO your experiencing withdraws from the other 1000+ chemicals that are in the cigarettes. The cravings will go away….hang in there.
I downloaded one of the quit smoking widgets that runs on your desktop and calculates how long you’ve quit for, money saved etc. It really helped me to stay strong and take it one day at a time. As the days turned into weeks the last thing that I wanted to do was to have to reset that counter.
It is still running on my desktop and I look at it every day.

Hi! Congrats on the decision to switch to ecigs and get away from the analogs! at 12 days you're in the midst of the toughest part of the transition. The key is to find the flavor and nic level that hits your sweet spot. After about a month being unhappy with the whole thing and craving a Camel from the moment I woke up to the minute I went to sleep, the flavor that finally did it for me was Totally Wicked's Decadent Vapor Apple Pie @ 36mg. Until then I was using the carts that came with my Volcano starter kit and was totally unsatisfied. I figured that at that point I would go big or go home so I bought my first big battery mod - Screwdriver Mk2 - and a bottle of the Apple Pie. WORLDS of difference! Its unfortunately a lot of trial and error at first. In the words of Winston Churchill "Never give in. Never, never, never, never,
in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy." Analogs can be a pretty mighty enemy but one that you CAN overcome!

I did the same thing! On my phone! There is even a place people talk and leave messages, I have learned to avoid it because they bash pv's as if we are "cheating." Screw them! But this is my counter...

Since Thursday, December 01, 2011
20:00: 10 days smoke free, 219 cigarettes down, $87.74 and 0d 21h 54m saved!

I tend to get that craving if I'm out having a couple of brews. I just got an Ego-T from Cignot over the weekend and am still finishing what's left of (hopefully) my last pack of analogs. Time will tell, I guess. In any event, this isn't an allegiance kind of thing that you need to take a stand with either smokers or vapers. Just try to remember the junk you avoid by quitting or even cutting back on the analogs.

Yea I'm puffing on a type b ego-t right more and looking out for the mail man every day to see if my Boge LR cartos are in there... This tank just isn't cutting it any more, but I'm going to stick with it. I'm not giving up!!! :banghead:

Teeto, your cravings are totally normal. They will pass.

Rather than trying to tell you about how good you gonna feel in a few months from now without any cough, how much better everything is going to taste, how much more energy you gonna have and what not, here's an idea that might help you to stick with the e-cigarettes AND help get your mind of whatever it is that's stressing you out:

Check out some mod pages on the forums, visit MadVapes and some of the other vendors that provide online instructables for mods and see, if you can put one together for yourself. It's totally relaxing and very rewarding when you build your own PV. Building it will help you focus on something other than what's bugging you and - depending on the mod that you choose - you could end up with a PV that you can fine tune to your needs, which would render analogs completely obsolete no matter how much stress and how many smokers you've got around you.

It sounds like you are bound determined to stick to e-cigarettes no matter what and I'm wishing you the best of luck. And if you do need an analog ... heck, go for it and don't let that stress you out any further.

Best of luck!

Speaking of vaping and brews... My favorite IPA of all time is Sierra Nevada Celebration which is available only during mid-winter. I never liked the combined tastes of smoking and good ales. I use a pretty light flavored tobacco juice and found that vaping and IPAs go very well together. With the money I save by vaping my mod and not smoking it looks like I can afford better brews from now on and can say bye to the Coors and Bud.
