I went to purchase new batteries for my evic and was told that sony no long makes them. The guy at the store tried to sell me a different set of batteries that 18650 however the ones that I wan are 3400 mah and the ones he wanted to sell me the mah number is significantly lower and is not selectable on my evic it has to be entered manually... is it true you can no longer get the 3400's and will the smaller mah still work on my device?
This hard ware thing is getting really frustrating for me... they never have anything in stock around town for some reason.

Smaller amp-hours generally means you can draw less current from them. The thing you need to check is the coulomb rating of the battery, or "C" rating.

So let's say you have a 2000mah battery, that can discharge at 10C. That means you can discharge at 2000mA x 10 = 20000mA or 20A. Most batteries calculate this for you (like EFests) and just say "this battery can discharge at 15A".

What batteries are they selling you?

Personally, I would order some Sony VTC5's off the interweb, even if you use the other batteries in the mean time.
