Hey gang,

I've been vaping for 6 months and have been itching for something new. I started reading on the forum and became intrigued with the VV and the Provari, but like a couple of other posters, I don't know if I want to lug around something of that form factor. It's nice, but I'm just not sure.

I've always been intrigued with the Reos mods, but wanting to try out VV, I'm not sure if I should wait for that model or not. I work at home and do tend to chain vape. I've been getting by with a couple eGo kits and also bought a USB-passthru box mod a while back but that seems to not be working anymore. I want to do this right this time around.

I like the grand and mini and I think the simplicity of those would be pretty neat. I like the notion of not having to constantly pop off the top to my carto's to top off anymore. But I'm just hesitant about spending $200+ for a Reos setup when the VV models (I think) are right around the corner.

What do you guys think?

I'd recommend starting with a regular old reo to begin. I know, it costs more money, but here's the idea:

Squonking can be a tricky thing to sort out to begin with. It takes a little practice and a little patience.

VV can be a tricky thing to sort out sometimes. It takes a little practice, experimentation and patience.

I think if you try to mix both those new things together at once, it may be frustrating and sour your taste a bit. And if you happen to be immune to the collector bug, your reo will almost certainly hold a large part of its value for re-selling on the classifieds or to another smoker/vaper friend when you purchase a VV unit down the line.

Just my :2cents:

The first VV Reos are going to be made from wood. They'll be gorgeous and function wonderfully, but not ideal for a carry-with-you PV. The metal Grands and Minis are perfect for carrying with you because they're very tough mods. Metal VV Reos are coming but that's a ways down the road. If you can afford a Grand or Mini plus batteries & charger now and a VV Woodvil when they come out, I'd say go that route.

My personal opinion is that VV is good if you are constantly searching for the "perfect voltage" for a variety of juices. The downside is that VV adds size and complexity to a mod. I am sure that the VV REO will be an awesome VV mod, and it will be designed to be as fiddle-free and reliable as possible, but it will be larger and more complex than a regular REO.

OTOH, I personally enjoy a 1.5 ohm atomizer on a 3.7v battery. If you get a Grand, you can use the AW IMR 18650 and get all day vaping that is remarkably consistent. The IMR doesn't have much drop off during use, and the 18650 is a large battery. You can adjust the resistance of your atty/carto to a particular juice. If you really wanted higher voltage you could go to a 5v or 6v battery set up, and you still get an all mechanical mod that is the smallest size possible for the battery with 6 ml of juice.

Even though I am a Mini gal, I have never heard of someone regretting a Grand purchase.

I just bought a Switchback from Vaporbeast.com. You mentioned that you are not sure if you want to lug around something with that form factor. The Switchback has a mini stealth mode, but also allows you to vape from both sides to effectively double you available vapor capacity! I also just ordered a Liquinator from Vaporescence. This is a tank system works well with the ego and other devices that use a 510 connection. I too have been interested in the Provari and Reo.

I agree and think you should try a standard REO as your first. It can always be a back-up if you get the VV.
You can pick up a Grand and try vaping 5 or 6v with that also.
Over all between the two atty or cartos needs will be different. You will need HV attys for the VV.
Batteries also and charger will not be the same.

The REO's do have a slight learning curve. Not hard to get use to, but some time involved.
If you have the squonking down and the REO concept then you will be ready to use the VV.

Thanks for the thoughts everybody.

To be honest, I don't know if I totally understand all of the benefits of VV (and that's not necessarily a discussion for here). But it seemed to be the next big thing, but maybe I was just looking at it cause everyone else was. Almost everyone who had the Provari seemed to really like it.

But yeah, I do agree that the Grand or Mini seems to be a good first step here and then I can go wood for the VV perhaps down the line some.

Here's an excellent resource if you haven't seen it yet:

FlGator I just obtained my first Reo Grand just last week and let me tell you....WOW. It is everything that I expected and more.I also own a vv box mod from madvapes(Variable Voltage Box Mod) that I do enjoy also.I jumped into the vv mods bandwagon just to give it a try.Let me tell you you this. From my experience you may start to get little hints of flavor that you may not get with a straight voltage mod like a Reo,but it's wasn't enough of a difference to me to warrant a purchase of more expensive vv mod. Also if you have done your research,ALL vv mods peziometer which controls the voltages, will burn out the more you adjust it. So basically what the rule of thumb is once you dial in your voltage try not to mess with it much.I don't know about you but I would rather have an all mechanical Mod like a Reo Grand/Mini rather than a mod with more stuff that can burn out.

Sorry for the wall of text.

That totally makes sense. While I like to tinker with some stuff here and there, for vaping, I think I'd just prefer to set it and forget it. I have seen that little vv box mod, too, but after my bartleby quit working, I think I want to stick with the better stuff and try not to have a drawer full of mods that either aren't used or don't work. I think the Reos is definitely for me.

Now just to find someone reputable with the batteries in stock.....

I have a Provari, and you are correct... I really like it. But I absolutely love the REOs I have. My Provari has been delegated to dripping the occasional oddball flavors I have that don't warrant a whole bottle in my REOs.

Get the REO, you won't be disappointed.
