Hey Guys,

I had posted this in my introductory thread but I should have posted it here..
I have a question about mechanical mods and even though I've done countless hours of research, I haven't been able to come to a conclusion because it seems like definite answers come more often when a specific device, atomizer and battery details are provided.

I have the following items that I'd like to use as my mech. mod setup but I was wondering if I should be aware of any faults with this setup?

- Fuhattan mod (copper with centre pin)
- Tobh Atty V2 (copper)
- Battery (Sony SE US18650VTC5, 2600MAH, 3.7v)
- Nitecore D2 charger

If I were to build a .45ohm dual coil build in my atomizer, I would be pulling about 9.3amps (continuous discharge) at full charge (4.2v) or 8.2amps at 3.7v. Viewing the specs of the Sony battery, it says "Maximum Rated Continuous Discharge Current: 20A" - I presume that the battery is suitable for the build/setup. Correct?

Any help, critique, suggestions or general knowledge would be great. I am completely open to earning and would appreciate the help.

Thanks,
Stan

I forgot to mention that I also have a Samsung 25R... doing some quick reading, I've seen that this battery might be better because it doesn't run as hot as the Sony VTC5?

Both batteries are excellent for that resistance, the VTCs would be better if you were to decide to build lower. Check out @Mooch blog for great battery info.

Just remember when building dual coils, half the resistance of the individual coils to figure your over all resistance. IOW, to have a final resistance of .45 you would need 2- 0.9 ohm coils.

Just make sure to test the build on an ohm meter before putting it on your mod, even putting the top cap on while on the meter to ensure there are no shorts.

Welcome to ECF and the wonderful world of mechs!

@B2L and @duc916 thanks for the tips - I found the battery info by @Mooch and that is huge help.
I already have the Tobh Atty built and it comes in at .44ohms (dual 26g Kanthal) using my eLeaf meter and I also tried it on my iPV D2 but the numbers were slightly off (.44/.47).
I've heard that ohm meters can be slightly off from one another but seeing how the numbers are relatively close, I should be OK.

Yes, mass produced meters are going to vary some but it sounds like you are doing your homework, checking and double checking your build and asking good questions. If only everyone who got into mechs would initially start out like this they (mechs) wouldn't have a bad rep.

Feel free to ask any other questions and enjoy the journey!

Haha thanks - I''ve spend about 2 months doing research on mechanical mods before purchasing. All the help from ECF has given me more confidence.

Setup is fine, but, I gotta throw my 2 cents in...may want to reconsider a stainless steel atty. I first started out dripping with a brass TOBH from FT and my god it was awful. It never tarnished evenly with my brass mech, so it would be two different shades of brass, ugly. And most importantly, after about 5 minutes of use, the top cap and sleeve would tarnish internally with this nasty green color that ruined the flavor of my juices. Probably leaching lead for all I know. I ended up throwing the top cap and sleeve away and bought some cheap poly sleeves and chuff caps so I could at least salvage the base.

My opinion is literally only worth 2 cents though, I see a lot of people rocking brass and copper drippers who have no problems, but just seeing them makes me cringe now LOL

edit: Not to be persnickety, but what made you decide on a TOBH in the first place? There are a thousand and one side air drippers out there now like it, but without such limited airflow, no tabs on the deck, and better posts.

Thanks for the tip - I'll keep my taste buds open to see if I notice any flavour or tarnish issues. So far no issues.
I was thinking of getting a stainless atty in white to match my setup - maybe I'll see the difference then!

Oh no, if it's working fine for ya, it's working fine. I noticed almost immediately I got a piece of junk LOL.

I actually have that atty.
I've never had a problem but I clean my gear pretty often.

I've never had a taste issue with brass atty caps or brass taps on my water plumbing.
;)

Thanks to the fearing mongering and uneducated kids on FT, there are very few brass atomizers available.

I'm considering this bad boy right here next:
https://www.fasttech.com/p/3504301

Thinking about doing what you did, white mod + whatever atty + one of my white POM drip tips since I have a ton of them.

very nice - i'm liking the white with stainless accent, would look dope with a white or stainless atty!
