New member here, accidentally ran into this site when i found out about e-cigs last week. First off want to say this place is great, I have been doing nothing but lurking these forums for information and have learned a lot in just the couple days I've spent here. The atmosphere here seems to be very friendly am glad that I found you guys :)

So anyways, I decided to go with the KR808D1 kit from myvaporstore, took less than 72 hours and got my first kit yesterday. Weird thing, I was not even thinking that much about quitting this week, was going to hold off for a couple more months before I did another cold turkey. I've been smoking for 15 years and have tried everything to quit, I almost had given up trying but thought WTH lets give this a shot. Long story short, I have had 1 smoke in 30 hours. vaping is awesome! This is finally the way I am going to quit and am stoked that I finally found my way out. Went straight to my brothers house to show him and he's about to order his first kit as well. Everyone I have talked to has heard me ramble on about how great this is, I'm so ready to tell everyone I know about vaping! I do have some questions though....

First off what I got: KR808D1 kit , 2 manual bats, 6 preloaded "smooth flavor" 11mg carts. And 3 10mL bottles of 18mg flavors

1. I get some decent hits it seems but I'm not getting a big throat hit (or maybe I am and just expecting too much, 1 1/2 PAD smoker here) and I'm really not getting huge vapor like I would like. Is this specific to juice only, I have read some say buy a bigger battery but you'll kill your juice. And some say that its juice specific (VG base), not 100% sure which way to go. Should I upgrade to a bigger battery or should I test some 80/20, 50/50 juice? I really like the size and look of the 808 since I will be in public vaping a lot of my days and during the weekends out sometimes.

2. I need a USB passthrough, can tell already that thats going to be my primary way of vaping since I live on my desktop most of the time. Anyone have any recommendations on a good PT that will give great vapor and throat hit and that will be interchangeable with my 808 carts?

3. I bought a 901 Atty because I've heard it could be used with a 808, I can't for the life of me figure it out lol, carts were easy. Do I just drip juice on the silver filler in the atty? I put like 5 drips on it and it passed right through. Or should I be dripping into the "mouthpiece" somehow? Link to mouthpiece here btw:DSE 901 Atomizer

4. For my brothers kit, he loved my 808 but said the same thing I noticed, not a huge throat hit, but he thought the vapor production was alright (didn't seem to matter really to him). Was looking at the 501 but I think he wants to stick with carts and he hates the idea of a small battery life that I've read the 501's have. Should he go with the 808 or try something else? He is looking for something to take into public (ie: looks like an analog 808 size suits him fine basically)

5. If I do stick with the 808 what type of blank carts should I be using. Looking for something I don't have to pull for a few seconds to get a hit. I have found some Low-resistance carts at litecigusa.net, is this the way to go for an easier pull or could anyone recommend something better?

I'm sure I missed something I'm typing a million miles per hour! Sorry for the plethora of questions but I'm crazy excited about vaping now and want to order everything to be set for a bit, as well as be as informative to my friends/family when I feed them information about vaping. Thanks again for the great forums, you guys/girls have already taught me a lot!!

Thanks,
Sojo

I'd say increase the nicotine level.

I think your brother is making a mistake looking for something to take in public that looks like an analog. I want something that looks the least like an analog as possible. Better to keep keep the cig haters from throwing rocks at you. With mine, people don't know what in the hell I'm doing.

Can't help you much with the other questions, just want to welcome you to the board!

The 808 is a good starter kit, but in my experience,(smoked 40 yrs) you probably need something more substantial. Before you buy a whole lot of stuff(like most of us have), let me suggest an eGo passthrough. It has different threads on the battery from the 808 but that is easily fixed by buying and adapter. Get a 510 - 808D adapter also. Then you can still use the same cartos that you have now. I suggest an eGo passthrough because you can plug it into any usb port and then you can still use it while unplugged. Unplugged it acts just like a reg eGo battery. Let me know if you want more info.

I just recently found out that higher nic. levels give you a better throat hit. Which explains why some of my juices made me feel as if someone punched me in the throat. I use 28-36mg strength liquids. And at first was using a 50/50 mix of PG and VG. Now I just use 100% VG and with the high nic. levels it settles the TH down just right for me. Plus all VG=moe betta vapa.

Also I would like to add that I completely agree with swedishfish on the appearance situation. This coming from experience. I have a analog look alike PV and I can hardly use it in public due to the idiots out there. I've had people get in my face and yell without even asking me to put my cigarette out. Some of which wouldn't even listen to me as I tried to explain that it wasn't a cigarette. You have to constantly dodge confrontations. Even when people know it's not a cigarette they'll ask you to put it away so you don't "influence" children that may see you using it. Just M.O.

That's funny (not in a good way). So many people are such hypocrites. Smoking has become such a taboo in our society that even vaping is frowned upon. I've seen a guy yell at some people outside for smoking too close to the entrance to a restaurant while he took his kids inside to eat. I then witness him down about 5 beers and a couple mixed drinks. Good thing his kids aren't being influenced by smoking or vaping I guess...but apparently alcohol is ok.

Sorry about the rant.

Thanks everyone for the help. Been on the road a lot so haven't really had a chance to respond.

My brother ended up with a 808d-1 kit as well, he hasn't started using it (has 2 packs of smokes that he's going to finish up first) but we figured since mine at least got me to the point of not smoking now and that being the reason for getting into vaping that it was cost effective and best to stick with something we have seen actually work good enough. After some time getting use to vaping and not smoking he can move on to another unit depending on his needs more.

As for not caring about being in public vaping I can understand that, me personally I don't usually smoke on the street unless the club/bar/diner/restaurant doesn't allow smoking inside, so I more wanted something that wasn't huge (thinking VV mod here) and I could just vape on without a constant barrage of people accusing me of it looking like I'm smoking something besides cigs, especially like outside a restaurant. So was kind of looking at it from another perspective, sorry should of been more detailed in my original post.

As for more mg, I filled some new carts up with the 18 juice I got and it's much better, can definitely see myself going to 24 but might have actually found my sweet spot at 18. Btw, I'm having a helluva time here with trying to refill my old pre-filled cartos, I'm getting little to no vapor from most of them, I did the vodka/sock spin then oven dry method lol if that makes sense. Any advice in this department?

And the battery... I actually looked at the ego but isn't it just a 3.3V while my 808D-1 is a 3.7V? There's a difference in maH but isn't that just battery time? A little confused and sure I'm wrong but wouldn't the Ego be a downgrade from an 808D? I'm really looking for a nice PT that I can use in my car and at the computer that would give a better vape all around.

And one last thing. I've read you shouldn't use PT's on a computer if you go 5V, is this true? Should you just use the wall adapter only for pass-through units? About 2 days out from buying a PT and just want to cover all my bases before I make the purchase :)

Thanks
Sojo

Edit: Oh and @dcassidy1214. I'm definitely wanting to go the VG route more, any advice on some nice 80/20 or 50/50 juice suppliers I could test out. I'm actually getting more concerned with the vapor production than the throat hit now lol.

100% VG will generally have a much soft hit than a mostly-PG juice. An all PG juice can let through too much of nicotine's skin irritation and go beyond TH and cause sore tongue, throat, etc. And 18mg in the same base as 11mg - 18mg will give more TH (though you may not notice it much in 100% VG)

Try some juices around 70pg/30vg and then adjust from there - for more Th get higher PG, for less get less PG. If you don't want to jump all the way to 70/30 then try 50/50.

Many of the juice suppliers offer what mix you would like. I started with My Freedom Smokes---you could spend hours there. Just do a search on the forum and you'll find more recommendations than you can count as well as reviews of flavors--there is even a section listed on the "front page" of the forum that shows juice discussions as it's own area. There are many good suppliers out there that associate with this forum and are highly recommended.

Couldn't get carto filling down to my satisfaction. Best advice I used was just a few drops....and fill more often. Many love cartos.

AND, your tastes will change. One day I loved sweet--the next day hated it. I change flavors during the day.

flavors definitely have different TH. Haven't tried a lot yet but so far menthol has the closest 'real' feel, and I never smoked menthols. My favorite while at my computer or watching tv is cappuccino, but it's almost too smooth and I tend to go through it fast. Next on my list to try is cinnamon, wintergreen and that hypnotic mist..oh and the fruitstripe gum!

Yes the eGo is less volts than the kr808d-1. It really depends on what you want from your e-cig, I like the eGo because the battery lasts half the day so with two I only switch out once - if I want it to perform like a higher voltage device then I can use a lower resistance atomizer or cartomizer and it will mimic a high voltage device. (now google: 510 LR atomizer, 510 LR cartomizer :) )
