hey All,

I joined here several months ago. Posted that I had done e-cigs for march to about June and then switched back to traditional and came back here for support and knowledge which I have received in spades here.thanks.

32 days ago I came down with low grade fever, 100.5 at most slights aches and fatigue..nothing major but certainly not ordinary. At the time I was back to 10-15 traditional cigs per day. But with the fever and fatigue I immediately stopped tradtional cigs--as I thought it could be Covid and honestly had no desire.

Turns out it was NOT Covid and in the 32 days I have had a total of 3 puffs from an e-cig in my desk drawer. I'm otherwise back to normal and only slightly crave a hit of e-cig and I know can use it I need it but the cravings only are short.

I think one part of this is with Covid and being in NYC--I'm not on the streets as much and I never see hardly anyone smoke or even vape. I do go to an office 4 days a week and the walk to the office is 12 minutes. And like a normal city--pre covid you'd always see people outside having a smoke or a vape and enjoying themselves and for me that's what kind of drove the cravings and addiction. now when I come home from work, I don't have a craving need.

After 32 days without a traditional cig and only 3 puffs of an e-cig --does that happen to people? In my head I have committed that I will be a non traditional cig smoker and if I need the e-cigs I'm fine with that. There is a slight concern that if we ever get back to normal and I " see" people smoke that might bring it back..who knows? Hopefully I am far along enough now that it wont' effect me. In fact I saw a bke messenger smoking at a stop light yesterday and just looking at the traditional cig kind of grossed me out. so maybe that's a good sign?

The benefits so far are: my apartment and clothes smell normal. I have more energy and can breath better.

Maybe for me (and others) the visual appeal or or just seeing others enjoy a cigarette was part of the addiction?

When things go back to normal and see people smoke cigs....think about they burn paper and tobacco and inhale this horrible thing and they make their lungs full of black goowy smoke...
Their clothes and fingers smell bad...
And u are vaping your tasty vape and get your nicotine like a boss anytime u want..
Plus those guys can't even get erections while u wake up and your pants are ripped off from the erections cause THATS HOW WE ROLL IN THE VAPE SCENE

I was wondering how you are doing and found this thread. Yes, being around (or even seeing others smoke can trigger the urge) Good for you (half the battle is psychological) BTW, cigs also have other stuff that reinforces the addiction (not just nicotine) I do belive vaping is the best replacement (nic, hand to mouth, inhale/exhale, seeing "smoke, ect) all helps (things you can't get with gum or patches) I didn't mention this but I quit smoking by vaping and only vaped for many months BUT slipped back into smoking again (dual user... both, but still loved vaping more) As of today, I've quit the cigs again. Hope you are doing well (and avoiding the "nasties") If not, don't beat yourself up (as I well know, sometimes we slip back into bad habits) Anyway, maybe we can help each other through this :) Best wishes and feel free to make a new post about anything vape related... devices, juices, MTL vs DL... just jump in. Vape on, peace out!

didn't read your whole thread, but you lost me at craving when you saw other people smoking. (or however you worded it) I'm exactly the opposite! I feel like the people I see smoking now are ignorant and I feel sorry for them!!

I was responding to OP comment. So... how long has it been since you smoked? OP is new to this... try to remember when you first quit the nasties (if you are an ex smoker.... not everyone is) I do wish I could walk up to each and every smoker and convince them to quit and try vaping :thumb:

I'm not kidding when I say I had that same mindset 2-3 weeks after I quit, and I was a 30 year smoker!!! I was positive I had found the cure and everyone else was missing out...and in my case, I was right!

Well, speaking for myself, when I finally switched to vaping, it was all over for smoking. I wanted nothing to do with it. No amount of smoking people could lure me in.

However, there are a couple of things...

Firstly, when I first tried vaping, all that was on the market were really bad cigalikes with really high resistance atties. I would use them here and there, but only because I wanted it to work so badly that I would keep trying, knowing full well it wasn't ahppening. I smoked 95% of the time. Better atties eventually came along but still not good enough.

It wasn't until roughly 2013/2014 that I got wind of lower resistances below 2 ohms and variable voltage ego batteries. When I finally got one of these setups (vv ego with an Evod clearomizer), it was over, no more smoking for me.

That same night, I was so astonished in disbelief that the new gear had did it for me, that I went outside, lit a cigarette and had a couple puffs, just to see what would happen. I snubbed it out and threw it away - couldn't have taken more than 3 puffs. No interest. Just like that. Done with smoking since. However, I kept the remaining pack of cigs I had because I wasn't sure about myself. But I never smoked another.

My point is, I had been wanting vaping to work for such a long time and had already been exposed to vaping...and I think that helped.

And here's the other thing, while I have no urge to actually smoke a real cig, when I see someone on an old movie smoke one, I sometimes miss it and get the urge. But not the urge to smoke a real cig, the urge to have something small that I can hold in the "V" of my fingers or dangle from my lips and "smoke" without holding down a button. That's why I still have and use cigalikes (automatics) sometimes (can't hang it from my lips, but I can hang/hold from my teeth and that satisfies that urge).

I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke. But the urge to engage in the act of smoking one is still there sometimes. However, I could never go back. Never. Nothing to do with health - it's all about the stench and the cost for me. I'll be vaping until either I'm dead or until my health is so bad that vaping makes it too hard or impossible to keep kickin'.

I'm a born smoker and I like the act of smoking. I merely vape instead.

I occasionally smell it and it seems nice but don't pay it anymore attention than that. I might just have one if I was around smokers, dunno. It's quite a powerful addiction. And like boozing, it'll trick you into thinking that just one will be fine.
Congrats on your new life! I can feel your excitement, lol.
Just went back and read a couple of post I skipped, and I'm surprised by this one especially. I remember sitting at a red light exactly 3 weeks to the day after I quit and the person in front of me was smoking a cigarette, the smell made me feel ill!! It was (and continues to be) the most foul thing I have ever smelled!!!! It's really peculiar how this addiction effects us all. Obviously my mind just wanted it out of my life I guess.

I can't take it. I can smell it a mile away. It makes me angry, irritated.

Someone moved into the rental home across the street from me 2 years ago and she would go outside to smoke. I would smell it almost every night in my home. Never realized what the source was for about 4 months after she moved in.

I didn't want to say anything to her, because I didn't know what to say and I didn't want to be one of those annoying non-smokers or quitters that tell everyone to stop smoking (and I'm done trying to convert smokers to vaping, it's a lost cause. I will only help those who are already interested).

Thankfully she moved out about a year ago. That was about a year of hell for me, an invasion of my living space.

hi All. Well I think my feelings have changed. now when I see someone smoking I do think it's "ignorant, and and quasi gross". There's a woman who lives in the building next door to mine in Manhattan and she's pretty fashionable women in her mid 30s and sometimes I find her attractive but 90% of the smokers I see turn me off now. I hope this feeling stays. I have used e-cigs twice in 57 days so far. I may need to use them in the future but right now, I don't even feel the need.
