so i just recently got an orchid clone. on hand all ihave is 28G kanthal and 32G. my only battery is an istick 20.

dual coils with the 28G wont heat up on the istick, and 32G seems to be burning the cotton despite how well i attempt to wick the orchid.

the "least burning" build i have set to-date is a 1.8 total ohm setup, 3mm with 6-7 wrapps each coil, using 32G. - not chain vaping, after one tank full, il take apart the tank to check the wicking, the edges of the coil are burnt, but the center of the wick is still moist/white and so are the tails.

there is no hotspots in either coil. and i was only running it to 5.5V = 16.8W

running the same dual coil setup in a Dark horse, i get the same results - is the 32G just too thin for this application? im atempting to run the orchid in a normal range, and hopefully just setup both the tank and dripper to the point i can "set and forget" my istick at 5.5V and not runn into issues...

Yes, 32g wire will get hot fast. I think the average is 28g. A thinner coil will wear a little from the heat applied to it, so that may be occurring. I would try 28g or, even, 26g.

an istick20 will not heat up 28 or 26 gauge wire - due to ohm limitations, i cannot even attempt it.

just curious for those who own an orchid: what build are you running in it(wire gauge and coil id) and at what voltage/wattage?

I have my orchids mostly on 28g dual but I'm running on 30w devices.

maybe you can try twisting 2 32g and that should give you a slightly thicker wire to work with?

ive tried this before, and twisted or parallel coils made of 32G act extremely similar to using 28G - it didnt heat up on the istick when using in dual coil :(

If the wick is burnt only on the edges of the coil, but not in the center, I'd say the coil legs are getting too hot. This happens when the legs are too long or the connection to the posts isn't solid. I don't have an orchid, but judging by pictures of the build deck, there isn't much room for extra wire. Also, I know that you can't tighten the screws very hard on 32 gauge without snapping it.

I'd say you should try some 30 gauge microcoils. Check out lightningvapes for cheap wire and free shipping, and there usually is a coupon code too. They have batteries and other cool stuff you might be interested in as well.

Good luck!
