Just received a batch of 510 cartomizers. These ones are different from the ones I'm used to, which are longer and skinnier and have a black plastic cap that you remove and drip into to fill. Those have always worked perfectly. Tons of vapour and great flavour.

These new ones have a white rubber end cap on them and are much shorter and slightly fatter. I've noticed when drawing on them they seem to let alot of air in from the section where the battery and cartomizer meet.

Anyway, I've filled these using the condom cap method and the dripping method after removing the rubber cap. In both cases vapour production is noticeable less and flavour is nearly non-existent. I've even left them to sit for a couple of hours to give the juice a chance to fully absorbing into the batting.

Anyone else have this problem? I've used three different cartomizers. Two using the drip method and one using the condom cap.

I have a different 501 cartomizer I picked up when I bought my ego. I don't know what brand it is as it was a throw in when I bought my kit. It doesnt have a whiite tip like the on you describe and on the video. It's all black. I tried the condom method and while some juice gets sucked up, it seems very little.

I was told when I bought this that I had to pop open the the end you draw from, remove the little plastic drip tray inside, and when you lookside the opening there is a round tube/shaft in the middle that is capped off at the top. You have to pierce a hole in that part which I did but still not getting it to suck up juice using the condom method. Also, upon inspection inside the opening, I dont see any batting. Not sure how this design really works. I was looking for vids on how to properly fill these cartomizers but was unsuccessful. Does anyone know what I am talking about and is there a link to a vid I can see to refill these?

I think it sounds like a joye 510 cartomizer I've tried to post a link if it doesn't work just google joye 510 cartomizer fill and some youtube videos should pop up for filling and reviews on them. The filler in joye cartomizers is hidden in the bottom under the centre fill hole and the surrounding area is for the air to pass through. There is a video that shows how to separate the plastic top from the steel threads on youtube under how to fill a joye cartomizer. The ego mega cartomizers also have the same filling procedure as the 510 joye cartomizer.

Thanks VapourGuy...I know you and I discussed this before and the video helps solidify how exactly to fill and where. I still think the condom method with these cartomizers is a little difficult and won't suck up juice as well as filling with a syringe, so I guess I'll just use the syringe method.

Having said that, how many refills will one of these Joye 510 cartomizers take before they die? Also, how will i know they carto is needs replacing...will it just stop working or is there a sign I should be looking out for once these things are end of life?

For the record, flavour and vapor with these things are tremendous...it really tastes good and they heat up super fast.

Hey Dr.Zeus, I have dabbled with some Joyetech 510 Cartomizers and they are pretty good for the first fill and seem to quickly die after you have filled them a couple times. As VST says "they hit" and I totally agree that they do have a good TH however that quickly trails off.

The "end of life" for any cartomizer is 1 fill, due to the disposable nature of the products. Anything beyond that is stretching them beyond the intended use, and that is ok, but less possible to do with these cartos imho. The TH will trail off first then followed by puny vapor after that.

Hey Noiz thanks for the reply. I have filled this carto about 3 times now and it works just as good as it did the first fill. Vapour is plentiful and so is the TH. I know someone who says they are on 10 fills and still going strong....I guess time will tell.

hotone, who were you referring to in your post in regards to this method being messy and wasteful. What is the drip and shake method and what is this spike you are referring to?

Thanks

I've been using 510 cartos (the ones with the removable cap) most of the time since July 2010. They are definitely not one time refill things. Some juices (TV type) kill them quickly, in a day or two. With clean DIY liquids I'm using a carto lasts 4-6 days, 3-4 ml of liquid a day going through. I throw them away when they get clogged and poking with a paper clip does not help. Once in a while I get a defective one that won't produce sufficient vapour but that's an exception. In a word I'm quite happy with them.

Noize has hit the nail on the head. They were/are intended for single use and yes anything over that is a bonus. That being said I found the second refill being better than the original. Why? The atty is broken in.

The liquids that you vape will indeed increase their life or shorten it. I have had cartos that went through 25-30ml of liquid before going stale and some only last 5-10ml (5 being rare) Wrt when will I know it is spent? Easy, you will know.

Some folks are washing these. In my experience, washing will only get you a couple more days and the vape is off after a wash. But then again YMMV...

Very interesting, perhaps it is the way I am using them that has caused this. Makes me think maybe I am accidentally burning them too dry before I fill them the second time. Thanks Switched!

The condom method where you fill the end cap and slowly place the cartomizer connector end down. The 510 connector has a smaller diameter then the 808/901 that this method was originally used with. which means more juice is left in the bottom. Also, I find juice will make it to the sides and come back out the bottom hole. You need to use a tissue to wipe the end and it is best to blow it out as well. If you don't juice can make its way down to the battery connector and impede the performance of your cartomizer.

I normally just remove the cover for the mouth end and remove the mouth piece. Tilt the carto and drip while rotating until the juice starts to show. Hold the mouth piece end and shake until the filler appears dry then repeat. Keep doing this until it is full. Let it sit for 30 minutes and blow through it before using it.

If you ever get any burnt taste just throw out the carto it is not worth trying to get any extra life out of it.
