The world’s (un)luckiest man cheated death 7 times and then won the $1 million lottery! This is an amazing story.

Frane Selak, a Croatian music teacher, began his unlucky streak in 1962 on a train going from Sarajevo to Dubrovnik.

The train unexplainably jumped the tracks and fell into an icy river killing 17 passengers.

Selak managed to swim to shore suffering from hypothermia and a broken arm. A year later while on an airplane, it's door flew off and Selak was sucked out of the airplane.

The plane crashed and he woke up in a hospital. He'd been found in a haystack. Then in 1966, Selak was on a bus that went off the road and into a river.

Four people were killed, but he suffered minor injuries. In 1970, his car caught on fire and he stopped it and got out just before the whole car blew up.

In 1973, Selak was driving another car when a faulty fuel line sprayed gas all over the engine and flames blew through his air vents. His only injury was the loss of most of his hair. In '95 he was hit by a bus, but on sustained minor injuries.

Finally in 1996 he was driving on a mountain road when he went around a bend and saw a truck coming right at him.

He ran is car through a guardrail and jumped out to watch his car blow up 300 feet below him. In 2003, Selak bought a lottery ticket for the first time in 40 years at the age of 74. He ended up winning $1 million.

This is amazing, what kind of person would ram through a garud rail to avoid death and keep stead fast on life enough to jump out to avoid it again and live. A Bad A** Mutha .......*r, please forgive my non French but I have heard of the haystack one and even the story however I never heard the last one. Their is a pattern in this mans life that is amazing in itself. For one hes the only man I have ever heard of that jump out a plane and landed in a hay stack and lived. He is also the only person I have heard of that got gas sprayed through the vents, which can be possible highly improbable I have found to do this it would have to be done to do so (In Australia they used a form of gas for A/C that blew up the car on some peple). He avoided death by fighting out every time , or he was a more active part of every situation.

In 1653, English puritanical leader Oliver Cromwell became Lord Protector of the Realm and, subsequently banned St. Valentine’s Day customs. Valentine’s Day wasn’t observed again until Stuart King Charles II was restored to the English throne in 1660.

(I believe that I also posted in this thread--or the first one--that Cromwell also banned Christmas celebrations. He was a fun guy. . . )

A light bulb produced in 1901 still glows to this day.

This amazing bulb has burned for nearly ONE MILLION hours (with a few short breaks). General Electric, Ripley's Believe It or Not, and the Guinness Book of World Records all agree that it is the longest-living light bulb in history! It can now be found at a fire station in Livermore, California (with an added surge protector and backup battery

A man completed 365 marathons in 365 days.

This insane feat was accomplished by Stefaan Engels, a 49-year-old asthmatic from Belgium. That's 9,569 miles of running, in 7 different countries! This shattered the previous record of consecutive marathons held by Japanese runner Akinori Kusuna who ran 52 marathons in a row.

His secret? He's not a fast runner, and he didn't over-exert himself on any of the races, keeping his heart rate low. Still, he did run, he didn't walk. His best time was 2 hours and 56 minutes. Engels has been running marathons since he was 25 years old. In addition to this record, he also holds the Guinness World Record for most Iron Man triathlons in a year.

The worlds fastest roller coaster, Formula Rossa at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi, reaches a top speed of 149.1 mph.

It can go from zero to 62 miles per hour in just two seconds. Technically, it's under construction still, but it will be open to the public on Thursday, along with the rest of Ferrari World. When that happens it will claim the title of fastest roller coaster from the Kingda Ka, the marquee thrill at Six Flags Great Adventure and Wild Safari in New Jersey.

The coaster is on a 1.3 mile track, and it has a 170-foot rise.
