Tug of War was an Olympic event between 1900 and 1920.

Other weird ex-Olympic Sports: underwater swimming races, a competition to see how far swimmers can coast in the water without taking a stroke, and a game that resembled hopscotch. There was also rope climbing, live pigeon-shooting, and dueling pistols. One strange sport was the 56 pound toss. Basically it was just tossing a 56 pound weight over a pole-vaulting bar.

Did you know that a single snowstorm can drop more than 39 million tons of snow, carrying the energy equivalent to 120 atomic bombs? ‘The Great Blizzard of 1888’ was one of the most devastating snowstorms to hit New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut. The storm dumped up to 50 inches of snow. ‘The Great Snow of 1717’, ‘The Washington and Jefferson Snowstorm’, ‘The Long Storm of November 1798’ and the ‘Portland Storm’ are other major snowstorms that struck America.

The first recorded association of Valentine’s Day with romantic love occurs in Chaucer’s “Parlement of Foules.” Chaucer writes (in modern translation): “For this was on Saint Valentine’s day/When every bird comes there to choose his mate.” However, Chaucer may have been referring to Valentine of Genoa, whose saint’s day was May 2, a more likely time for birds to be mating than February 14.

Throughout time, snowflakes have fascinated many eminent scientists and philosophers such as René Descartes, Johannes Kepler and Robert Hooke, but the man who literally devoted his entire life to showing us the diversity and beauty of snowflakes is American Wilson A. Bentley (February 9, 1865 – December 23, 1931).

This ‘snowtastic’ Top 10 list is a tribute to Wilson Bentley, the first man to capture snow crystals on film. Known as “The Snowflake Man”, Bentley captured more than 5000 photographs of snowflakes. He received international acclaim in the 19th century for his pioneering work in the fields of photomicrography, because he perfected a process of photographing snowflakes before they either melted or sublimed.

Bentley’s legacy is an extraordinarily rich one: a vast library of detailed journals, books, published articles and over 5000 photographs of “tiny miracles of beauty”, as he often referred to snowflakes.

You can restore your razor blades by rubbing them on your blue jeans.

You can use the same blade for 6 months! This is great news, especially if you’re using a nice razor like the Fusion, which can cost you over $100 every year to keep replacing the old blades. Just pull out a pair of jeans, hold it down with one hand, and run your blade across the leg 10-20 times until it works again. This is conceptually similar to running a straight razor blade over a strap of leather.

Blond and Blonde technically don't mean the same thing!

The correct use of "blonde" is for a woman with yellow hair for males, it's "blond." The terms aren't completely synonymous.

The term comes from Old French's "blund" which literally means midway between gold and light chestnut.

This means that blond and blonde are one of the few word in English that has gender differentiation.

While in other languages it's pretty common (for example, in Spanish it would be rubio and rubia), English has very few words that change when used for the male and female gender

A company can make you into a FIREWORK after you die!

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag? Do you want to make a dramatic exit? Well, for $4000, a company called Angel's Flight will custom create 210 rockets from your ashes. They’re even willing to do the funeral firework display in your backyard if it’s big enough.

For an extra $1000, your family and friends can sadly watch the display from a yacht.
