Dr. Seuss was a fake name that the author started using after he was busted for drinking in college.

Ted Geisel was the editor in chief of Dartmouth's humor magazine Jack-o-Lantern until he was busted throwing a party that was against the school rules. Barred from writing anymore, Geisel started using his middle name "Seuss" as his pen name so that he could continue writing. The name worked: he was able to get around Dartmouth's rules, and developed a pen name that lasted decades later.

A quote from personal friends about Dr. Seuss' mischievous college years: "Ted grew to respect the academic discipline he discovered at Dartmouth-not enough to pursue it, but to appreciate those who did." I guess there's still hope for the rest of us.

Some of the oldest handmade Valentines are rebuses, which is Latin for “things” or “that which is indicated by things.” A rebus is a kind of puzzle or riddle, and the pictures indicate the meaning of the card. For example, a picture of a bee and a picture of a gold mine would indicate the sentiment “Be mine.”

Bubble wrap was invented by accident.

In 1957, Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes were attempting to invent plastic wallpaper with a paper backing. The pair of engineers worked tirelessly in a garage in Hawthorne, New Jersey, but ultimately failed in their endeavor. Nevertheless, the duo realized through the process that they could put their invention to use as a packing material, and voila - bubble wrap was born!

Today, their packing materials manufacturing company, Sealed Air Corporation, brings in annual revenues exceeding $3 billion.

Author Mark Twain was born on the day of the appearance of Halley's Comet in 1835. The comet returns to Earth every 76 years. He vowed that he would not die until he saw the famous comet. He died the day after its next appearance in 1910.

More info: Twain said, 'I came in with Halley's Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year, and I expect to go out with it. It will be the greatest disappointment of my life if I don't go out with Halley's Comet. The Almighty has said, no doubt: 'Now here are these two unaccountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together.''

People say most generic brands are basically the same exact as the name brands. Thats definitely a topic for debate...but I do know some name brand products are made in the same factories as the generic brands, they just slap different labels on em. Who knows! ?
All I know for sure is that generic soda is cool with me!

There is no one accepted explanation for the connection between St. Valentine and love. Etymologists report that the letters “v” and “g” were once interchangeable in common speech. The Norman word galantin, meaning a “lover of women,” was at one time both written and pronounced valanta or valentin, from which “Valentine” could have been derived.

Blue-eyed people might descend from ONE common ancestor!

Having blue eyes is a genetic mutation that results in the body's inability to produce melanin to make eyes brown, which is the natural color. Between 6000 to 10000 years ago, a genetic mutation occurred that made a single human person lose the ability to make brown eyes.

Their research showed them that people with blue eyes from all around the world have the same gene changes that are linked to the one mutation that makes their eyes blue. Brown eyed people have different genes in that same dna strand, so they believe that this indicates blue eyed people all come from the same ancestor!

Throughout history, there have been approximately eight St. Valentines. Three of them had special feast days in their honor. The two St. Valentines who most likely inspired Valentine's Day are Valentine of Terni and Valentine of Rome, though some scholars speculate they are actually one person.

A pound of feathers actually weighs more than a pound of gold!

Ever heard the old trick question, "which weighs more a pound of feathers or a pound of gold?"
The answer is supposed to be neither, because both would be a pound, yet that answer is technically incorrect.
Gold is universally weighed using a different measurement system than most other materials. It is weighed using the troy system, and troy ounces.
This system is measured so that 12 troy ounces makes up 5760 grains to the pound, while the common measurement for feathers would make them equal to 7000 grains to the pound.
Thus, a standard pound of feathers technically weighs more than a pound of gold!
