Kurt. Thanks for all of the info. The ZFM cart looks sweet! You say the cart lasts longer? I wondered about that. I seem to have to top off frequently to keep the performance up. The ZFM keeps the fluid flowing until empty? Do you have any special tools for cutting your hole when using the ZFM? No leaks?
Also, why VG over PG?
I don't tolerate PG well, as is the case for many here. It irritates my mouth, throat and lungs. I'm also not into producing extra lactic acid, which is the primary metabolite of PG. VG works great for me, although it must be thinned some as it is much thicker. Some use alcohol, maybe 10%, to do this. I am using distilled water, about 20%, which works about as well.
For ZFM, I use an xacto knife, straight edge, not curved. If you make the plug from the 510 cart condom, the center hole is done first, by pinching the condom so the end section is pinched in half, and then the knife can just carve out a half-diamond on the folded edge. Then I put the condom on the cart, as it normally would be, and use the cart inner wall to guide the knife around the periphery, cutting an oval the shape of the inside of the cart.
Leaks? Well, it will probably take you a few condoms to get it right initially. I still get some leaks periodically...I think its impossible to eliminate them 100% forever...but I actually get far less now than when I was using stock filler.
And yes, if the hole is right, and the bridge wicks perfectly, it will empty completely. I get around 50 hits before having to refill. Expect failures initially, but it does work well when done right. And any silicone sheet can be used as the plug. Lots of kitchen ware uses silicone and can be thin enough to cut and use. The thread I linked has people basically tearing up all sorts of stuff. The trick is to have the straw end be about 2 mm below the top of the cart, if the plug is about 1 mm thick. And it should be thin enough that the bridge can push into it and make a "bowl" to sit in and gather juice. If it is in too deep, it will be always like a cart that needs topping off. Have fun and good luck!
Scottbee, thanks for clarifying some of my points!
